SUMMARY:Peter Potworowski: West Country Exile
DESCRIPTION:Born in Poland in 1898\, Peter Potworowski was part of the Parisian Artistic community of the 1920s that included the likes of Picasso\, Bonnard\, and Léger. After the Nazi-occupation of his home-land Potworowski settled in England in 1943\, beginning a long association with the West Country. \nThe majority of works in this selling exhibition are from his time living in Cornwall\, Devon\, Somerset and Wiltshire. In 1949 he joined the teaching staff at the Bath Academy of Art\, Corsham\, where his own work as an artist matured in contact with the English landscape. \nChippenham Museum\, a Chippenham Town Council facility\, is free entry\, open Monday-Saturday 10am-4pm\, including bank holidays.

Answer the questions right and you might just get a treat at the end! ‘Spot the Bat’ is a simple counting trail – find the bats hidden amongst our collections on display and win a prize if you find them all! \nAll the family can join in just pick up your chosen trail sheet from Reception. \nLEGO® Engineering Workshops (Pre-bookable sessions included in entry fee Tuesday 24th Wednesday 25th and Thursday 26th October) \nUnleash your inner engineer and build a vehicle from LEGO® that will actually drive! \nLed by our Education Officer Andrew these sessions are limited in capacity to allow for suitable supervision please book your space in advance to avoid disappointment. \nRecommended for ages 7 and above. \nAssault Course (Drop-in Tuesday 24th Wednesday 25th and Thursday 26th October) \nChallenge yourself to our miniature army-style assault course based on our grounds. DESCRIPTION:The Royal Marines Charity are on a mission to raise £1.5 million by the end of 2023 to support Royal Marines and their families through life. \nTo help them achieve this local artist\, Rae Melody\, is running a ‘Cakes for Commandos’ fundraiser. The aim of the cake sale is to highlight what the Royal Marines Charity do\, bring people from the local community together\, to enable those connected to the military to meet and share stories and to enjoy lots of cake! \nRae will also be unveiling a large scale piece of art that she is creating which will be auctioned off (at a later date) to raise money for the charity. \nPlease join Rae in raising a bit of cash\, having a cuppa and some cake and in celebrating 359 years of the Corps from 11am to 2pm on Saturday 28th October at Platinum House\, 35 Market Place\, Chippenham\, SN15 3HT (next to St Andrew’s Church).

SUMMARY:Making Spaces: Creative Project
DESCRIPTION:Chippenham Museum is launching a new project to work with Ukrainian families\, alongside a local artist\, to produce a new artwork exploring Chippenham and the surrounding area as a place of refuge. \nThe project is inspired by the work of Belgian artist Charles Wellens and Polish artist Piotr Potworowski\, who each fled conflicts in the 20th century and made their home in the area. Work by both artists is currently on display in the museum. \nThese sessions are free and family friendly\, but booking is required. \nIf you would like to take part or want to find out more please contact the museum on 01249 705020 or by emailing heritage@chippenham.gov.uk. We are also hosting an Open Evening for Ukrainian families and their hosts on Thursday 19 October\, where you can find out more about the museum and our Making Spaces project.

Join him as he explores the mansion’s secrets and meets some of its strange and spooky inhabitants. \nWhat ghouls and spectres haunt the gloomy corridors of this old house? \nWhat are those eerie shapes moving through the dark forest outside? \nAnd what mysterious creature lurks in the cellar down below? \nExpect an overflowing cauldron of a show\, brimming with delightful frights and hilarious horrors\, bubbling with ingenious puppetry and comedy\, seasoned with scary stories and tall tales\, flavoured with live music and songs\, and topped with a sprinkling of slapstick and silliness. \nWarning: Like all Squashbox performances\, this show will be full of laughter\, excitement and fun… but it will be scary too!
