DESCRIPTION:A town walk meeting of History Portal Club\, with Lucy Whitfield\, Historian. \nThe guy that built the house that is now the Brunel Pub\, by the arches\, was John Provis. He\, and his identically named dad\, built a lot more of Chippenham than that – the Bear Hotel for example\, and loads more. And Lucy’s been digging further into the family – so there’s some surprises to come. \nThis walk and talk will take in factors which shaped the town in the late 18th and early 19th centuries\, through the eyes and work of this prominent family\, who also had a celebrated artist in their ranks. \nMeet Lucy Whitfield at Cousin Norman’s at 10am for a gentle walk through what Mr Provis got up to. \nHistory Portal Club is a friendly regular meet-up for curious locals who love stories from the past\, hidden landmarks\, and great company. It’s a great way to explore the local area’s past together – no lectures\, no stuffy rooms\, just walking\, talking\, pub chats\, and stories you won’t find in the guidebooks. \n(If inclement weather\, session will take place indoors).

DESCRIPTION:Calling all performers aged 13 and up (including adults) \nA NEW performance company for young people and adults. \nWe spent time in June 2025 exploring ideas and working together to see what sort of work we all wanted to create and this will now be followed by a 9 week rehearsal period from Saturday 27th September\, followed by an intensive rehearsal period in January 2026 finishing a performance on Feb 7th 2026 (Venue – TBC – as we’ll come up with that together). \nWhether you’re a seasoned actor or just starting out\, why not showcase your talent and connect with like-minded locals? It may be that you prefer to be backstage or help with the design and production. DESCRIPTION:Next up in our series of art talks\, we will be joined by Sasha Wardell and Helen Wilks. \nSasha has over 40 year’s experience in the world of bone china and porcelain\, having studied in two centres of excellence; Stoke on Trent\, United Kingdom and Limoges\, France. She has taken elements of this industry and adapted them to a studio environment. Sasha has concentrated on perfecting the craft-based skills which enhance the inherent qualities of bone china and her carefully produced distinctive work embraces and reflects contemporary taste and lifestyle. \nHelen Wilks was a student at the Bath Academy of Art\, Corsham. She is a narrative painter\, probably best known for three cycles of works: Childhood Fragments\, Punch & Judy and The Inhabited Space. Additionally\, she has made very many works based on theatre performance and collaborations. DESCRIPTION:Our next concert is on October 18th 2025\, 7.30pm at St Andrew’s Church\, Chippenham\, and is titled “From Fields to Fjords” and will take you on a journey through a range of beautiful pieces by English composers\, culminating in the glorious Sunrise Mass\, written by Norwegian composer Ola Gjeilo.  For this concert\, we will be accompanied by a full string orchestra\, and it promises to be a truly amazing evening. \nAdvance tickets cost £15 for adults (18+)\, £12 for under 18s and are free for under 12s.  Subject to availability\, concert-day tickets will be available for purchase at the door and the adult price will be £17. \n  \nTickets can also be purchased via Ticketsource\, choir members\, or send us an email via our website contact page. \n
