SUMMARY:Lady Chatterley’s Cover: The Book Designs of Stephen Russ
DESCRIPTION:The post-war book designs of artist and teacher\, Stephen Russ\, are coming to life at Chippenham Museum. \nFrom the forties to the seventies\, Russ produced dozens of dust jackets\, from striking first editions of Graham Greene at Bodley Head to a wide range of titles at Collins\, including nature books and the famous Collins Crime Club. \nHe is perhaps best known for his work with Penguin\, designing covers for the main orange series\, the lesser-known music scores\, and the highly collectible Penguin Poets series. His phoenix motif for DH Lawrence’s Lady Chatterley’s Lover became famous during the 1960 obscenity trial and featured in the marketing that helped make the book a bestseller. \nThe exhibition also celebrates Russ’s thirty-year career as a tutor at the renowned Bath Academy of Art in Corsham\, brought together with the generous support of the Russ family and loans from the Penguin Archive and the University of Bristol.

DESCRIPTION:A relaxed and not-scary block of 5 classes exploring movement and mark-making; what happens on the paper if the marks aren’t solely relying on the eyes to observe? How can our bodies explore dance in tandem with a mark-maker? And other curiosities! \nGeorgie has many years of dance experience in community and professional settings and has been moving and marking throughout. Kim is a highly skilled creative and has an embodied drawing practice. We will lead you in a gentle and collaborative way through some playful exercises. SUMMARY:Chippenham Film Club April 2026 Screening: The Zone of Interest (12A)
DESCRIPTION:Chippenham Film Club was formed to bring films to the town that would not normally be seen on the big screen in Chippenham. Anyone can attend Film Club Screenings\, but members get discounted tickets. \nThe April 2026 screening is on Tuesday 14th April at 7.30pm and is the 2023 movie ‘The Zone Of Interest’ written and directed by Jonathan Glazer. This is a historical drama loosely based on the novel of the same title by Martin Amis. The story focuses on the life of German Auschwitz commandant Rudolf Höss and his family in their home next to the concentration camp. \n‘The Zone of Interest’ premiered at the 76th Cannes Film Festival on 19 May 2023 to critical acclaim. The film received five Academy Awards nominations (including Best Picture)\, winning Best International Feature\, becoming the first non-English British film to do so\, the film also picked the Oscar for Best Sound. The film won the Grand Prix at Cannes and three British Academy Film Awards\, becoming the first film to win both Best Film Not in the English Language and Outstanding British Film. It also received three nominations at the Golden Globe Awards; and was named one of the top five international films of 2023 by the National Board of Review. ‘The Zone of Interest’ has become regarded as one of the greatest films of the 2020s and the 21st century.
