SUMMARY:Collection Conversations - Natasha Michaels & Carole Pearson
DESCRIPTION:In June’s installment\, we will be joined by Natasha Michaels and Carole Pearson. \nNatasha Michaels studied communication design at Saint Martin’s School of Art and at the Royal College of Art where she specialised in printmaking. Her work explores conventions in classical subjects from art history. Celebrating\, and at the same time\, subverting these images\, Michaels reimagines the sitters as fictional\, cartoon-like characters. Through the lens of celebrity and social media she explores historic and contemporary notions of power\, identity\, status and artifice. \nCarole Pearson worked with museum collections before studying at Bath Spa University\, first for a BA in ceramics\, followed by an MA in fine art. Pearson works mostly on paper but also makes three-dimensional objects. Her selection of materials is low-tech\, utilising found and everyday objects. Her thinking reflects her childhood growing up on North Yorkshire farms and her strong connection with the land. She looks for marks in the landscape\, focusing on the impressions and traces that objects have left behind. \nLeft Image: Young Woman with Dog\, 2022\, Natasha Michaels\, photopolymer gravure\, Golder-Thompson Gift (image courtesy of Rabley Editions and the artist)\nRight Image: Bench II\, 2018\, Carole Pearson\, unique cyanotype © Carole Pearson

SUMMARY:Summer Flowers Watercolour Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Join me for a relaxed\, creative afternoon of painting your dream landscape! \nCelebrate the vibrancy of summer with your watercolours in this relaxed and creative Summer Flowers Watercolour Workshop. After running four fully booked flower workshops last year\, this session is expected to fill up quickly\, so early booking is recommended! \nYou’ll explore the colours\, shapes\, and textures of flowers in full bloom\, learning how to capture their beauty in a painting that feels alive and joyful. We’ll cover watercolour techniques for petals\, leaves\, stems\, and light\, along with tips on composition and colour mixing\, giving you the confidence to create a floral scene in your own style — whether loose and expressive or more detailed. \nFresh flowers and reference images will be on the table for inspiration\, and you can choose to paint a single bloom\, a few flowers\, or a whole bouquet — the choice is entirely yours! I’ll be there to offer as much or as little guidance as you’d like\, supporting you every step of the way. \nThis beginner-friendly\, low-pressure workshop is all about enjoyment and experimentation rather than technical perfection. By the end of the session\, you’ll leave with your own summer floral painting to frame\, gift\, or keep\, along with an Introduction to Watercolour booklet to help you continue your painting at home. \nWe’ll have exclusive use of The Waverley’s spacious main upstairs room\, and your ticket includes a complimentary drink of your choice. \nAll materials are provided (or you’re welcome to bring your own)\, and no prior drawing experience is needed — just curiosity\, a love of flowers\, and a willingness to experiment!

SUMMARY:Summer Flowers Watercolour Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a relaxed\, uplifting afternoon where flowers and painting come together in a calm\, welcoming space designed to help you slow down\, get creative\, and enjoy a few mindful hours making something beautiful — whether you’re coming solo or with friends. \nYou can choose between two beginner‑friendly experiences. The Full Floristry & Watercolour Experience (3 hours) invites you to create your own bouquet with florist Sophie before settling into a guided painting session with Kelly\, capturing your arrangement in watercolour. Or\, if you’d prefer to focus purely on painting\, the Watercolour Workshop Only (2 hours) offers a gentle\, supportive session working from fresh flowers and reference images. \nBoth options are low‑pressure and centred on enjoyment\, experimentation\, and discovering your own creative style. Whether you paint a single bloom or a full bouquet is entirely up to you. You’ll leave with a floral painting of your own and an updated copy of Kelly’s Introduction to Watercolour booklet to continue your practice at home. \nWe’d love to have you join us for a slow\, creative afternoon.
