SUMMARY:Peter Potworowski: West Country Exile
DESCRIPTION:Born in Poland in 1898\, Peter Potworowski was part of the Parisian Artistic community of the 1920s that included the likes of Picasso\, Bonnard\, and Léger. After the Nazi-occupation of his home-land Potworowski settled in England in 1943\, beginning a long association with the West Country. \nThe majority of works in this selling exhibition are from his time living in Cornwall\, Devon\, Somerset and Wiltshire. In 1949 he joined the teaching staff at the Bath Academy of Art\, Corsham\, where his own work as an artist matured in contact with the English landscape. \nChippenham Museum\, a Chippenham Town Council facility\, is free entry\, open Monday-Saturday 10am-4pm\, including bank holidays.

DESCRIPTION:The Cause Venue are holding an open day to celebrate National Heritage Day on Saturday 16th September. \nTake a look around the Venue and see the original site of the Quaker meeting house and the beautiful former Methodist church – now an auditorium. \nWhy not also join one of the free singing sessions during the day & come to our evening Showcase? \n12 – 12.30am Singalong group – Norma leads our Tuesday afternoon singing group and will be giving a free demonstration of the group. Join in or come and see. \n2 – 3pm Choir free workshop. What is it like to sing in a community choir? What is it like to sing in a world music choir? Do you like singing but don’t know where to begin? Come along and see how we learn and how you can sing in a choir without having to read music or have much prior experience. \n7.30 – 9.30pm Showcase. The two choirs who rehearse weekly at The Cause\, Lingmara World Music choir and Chippenham Gospel Choir\, will give demonstrations and performances of some of their varied repertoire. Full bar. Starting with local photographer Gerard Hilderly in association with Doorway homelessness charity. \nThe Absurdity of the Unoccupied is a socially engaged photography project that observes the existence of properties left permanently empty. Developed over 2 years\, the photography questions the ongoing preservation of such buildings and the detrimental effect upon the local community. \nInformed by the work of Allan Sekula and Peter Kennard\, the work aims to challenge economic influence and the conventions of power. \nA 30 minute talk with Q and A\nBar available.
