Taught by local artist and designer Charlie who has over 25 years experience teaching art. \nTuesdays at 12.30 – 2.30pm \nTerm 1 – Still life (drawing) – Sept 17th – October 22nd \nTerm 2 – Objects in interiors (drawing\, painting)- November 5th – December 10th \nTerm 3 – Portrait (painting)- January 7th – Feb 11th \nTerm 4 – Interiors (drawing)- Feb 26th – April 2nd \nTerm 5 – Landscape (painting) – April 23rd – June 4th \nTerm 6 – Still life revisited (collage\, mixed media) – June 11th – July 16th \nIn both beginners and improvers\, the sessions we will follow the classic method for learning to draw and paint. It is easy to learn to draw by copying the example of a tutor leading the group\, but this tends to produce a ‘house style’ where everyone ends up drawing in the same way. DESCRIPTION:‘The most fun I have all week – I haven’t laughed so much in ages’ \nAlternate Monday’s at the Cause Arts Centre 7-9pm \nImprovisation Workshops delivered by Laura. \nIf you’re interested but not sure what it is – just come and watch a session and have a cup of tea! \nCome and join a lovely bunch of local budding thespians\, who like to mess about\, play games\, take part in drama exercises and generally have fun while learning how to think on the spot\, make up scenes and not be restricted by the script. \nYou’ll explore scenes\, develop strong characters then improvise the content with some idea of the outcomes – Mike Leigh style. Some of our short form games are like ‘Who’s line is it anyway’ if you’re old enough to remember that! \nIf you have always wanted to try some drama\, but are not sure that you want to commit\, just pop in and do the bits that you want to\, or just come and watch a session. We’d love you to join us – and can guarantee that you’ll meet some brilliant and supportive people along the way. \n\nBasic introduction\, get to know each other\, ground rules for improv and how to let your brain avoid filtering (too much)\nIntroduction to creating characters to use in scenes – emphasis on the physical. Levels of performance style – 1-10\nFurther character development – using the voice to compliment the physical. Tone\, pitch\, accent. Introducing costume for characters.\nHow to respond to offers and add value to a scene. Can we develop a plot using the people that we have found?\nWhat do we need to do to become more believable? What clues can other actors give each other when in an improvised scene?\nFeedback – audience to watch. SUMMARY:Collection Conversations: Katherine Gili
DESCRIPTION:In April’s edition of a talk series\, Collection Conversations\, we will be joined by Katherine Gili. \nA student of the Bath Academy of Art\, Corsham\, she later attended the St Martin’s School of Art\, where she was introduced to the use of steel by her tutor\, Anthony Caro.\nGili’s work combines the use of steel construction with her search for increasingly sensual and subjective means of expression. Over time\, this has led Gili to develop her sculpture away from the industrial aesthetic of steel\, towards one based on an increasing manipulation of this seemingly intractable material. Her work continues to explore notions of weight and balance in response to movement and the dynamic figure. \nAs well as featuring in national and international collections including the Tate\, Arts Council\, and The Henry Moore Institute\, Gili’s work is also in display in our current exhibition.

SUMMARY:Improvers Art workshops
DESCRIPTION:‘A really friendly place to learn from experienced people’ \nUniquely designed and delivered 6 x 6 week courses for beginners. Taught by local artist and designer Charlie who has over 25 years experience teaching art. \nTuesdays at 12.30 – 2.30pm \nTerm 1 – Still life (drawing) – Sept 17th – October 22nd \nTerm 2 – Objects in interiors (drawing\, painting)- November 5th – December 10th \nTerm 3 – Portrait (painting)- January 7th – Feb 11th \nTerm 4 – Interiors (drawing)- Feb 26th – April 2nd \nTerm 5 – Landscape (painting) – April 23rd – June 4th \nTerm 6 – Still life revisited (collage\, mixed media) – June 11th – July 16th \nIn both beginners and improvers\, the sessions we will follow the classic method for learning to draw and paint. It is easy to learn to draw by copying the example of a tutor leading the group\, but this tends to produce a ‘house style’ where everyone ends up drawing in the same way. Your drawing style is as unique to you as your handwriting (if school hasn’t obliterated it) – here you will learn to enhance your own drawing style\, not replace it with ours. \nPlease note: all courses begin with drawing\, and include a talk about relevant art movements and practitioners. \nPrice includes all materials and coffee and biscuits (donations taken to help with refreshments) \nThank you – we look forward to meeting you soon
