DESCRIPTION:Maud’s Way \nFirst Wednesday of the month\n3 April to 4 September\, 7pm – 9pm\nFree\, spaces limited \nJoin Chippenham Museum’s Creative Writing Group and take part in our new series of 6 linked writing workshops led by local writer and facilitator Ruth Hill. \nInspired by the 550th anniversary of Maud Heath’s Causeway and the Museum’s summer exhibition\, Re-imagining Maud Heath\, discover how Maud and her Causeway has been celebrated by artists\, writers\, and everyday people across the centuries. Explore the stories surrounding Maud Heath and consider how local myths and legends begin and grow over time. \nOver the 6 months\, explore\, discover\, share and create your own local stories and perhaps some of these will develop into longstanding legends which will be told for years to come! \nThese sessions are suitable for beginners to experienced writers and will culminate with performed readings as part of the Maud’s Way Heritage Open Day’s events in September. \nGroup meets on the first Wednesday of the month at Chippenham Museum. \nWorkshops are free but spaces are limited. DESCRIPTION:On 2 September 1942\, Eric Ravilious joined the crew of a military plane that was embarking on a search party for a missing aircraft off the coast of Iceland. Four days after that plane also failed to return\, the RAF declared the crew lost in action. \nEric Ravilious is as compelling and enigmatic as his art. Set against the dramatic wartime locations that inspire him\, Margy Kinmonth’s film brings to life this brilliant but still grossly undervalued British artist. Caught in the crossfire of war 80 years ago\, Ravilious’s legacy largely sank without trace\, until now. Made with the blessing of the Ravilious Estate\, this first full length feature documentary about Ravilious unfolds in his own words\, through previously unseen private correspondence and rare archive film. \nThe film features the voices of Freddie Fox\, Tamsin Greig\, Jeremy Irons & Harriet Walter and asks what his life and art tells us about the elusive concept of Englishness\, and what it means to be a war artist.
