DESCRIPTION:Monthly fundraiser event for Dorothy House Hospice. \nJanuary 2025\nWAVERLEY ALBUM LISTENING CLUB \nThe first 2025 WALC fund-raising event for Dorothy House Hospice\, will be held as usual at The Waverley\, Chippenham on Wednesday 22nd January\, starting at 7.30pm with the first stylus drop around 8pm. \nWe will start the year with a ‘prog rock’ flavour and will be listening to a record that was suggested and requested by a couple of people at the October 2024 WALC\, namely ‘A Trick Of The Tail’ from 1976 – the tricky first Genesis album released after Peter Gabriel left the band in 1974. \nAlongside this we will listen to ‘Mirror In Blue Light’ the excellent debut vinyl album by Bristol-based band Pocket Sun which was released in September 2024. Members of the band will be attending to talk about their music and will have merchandise available to buy.

DESCRIPTION:Following on from the success of last year’s showing of the film Cathy Come Home in the presence of legendary director Ken Loach\, Doorway is pleased to be hosting a film night on Friday 7th March at Neeld Community and Arts Centre\, where we will show Someone’s Daughter\, Someone’s Son\, directed by award-winning film director\, Lorna Tucker who became homeless at 14 and spent two years living on the streets where she slept under Waterloo Bridge\, in and out of sheltered accommodation. \nBased on Lorna’s own experiences\, the film explores how the UK can put an end to homelessness and has garnered support from people across the country including: Sam Fender and Bryan Adams\, which see’s Bryan write a song\, exclusive for the film.\nShelter and Crisis said: “This powerful film is a rallying call that homelessness is not inevitable\, and we can end the housing emergency for good.” \nTickets priced at £10.00 and are available to book via the link https://thelittleboxoffice.com/neeld/event/view/205395 or direct with Neeld Community & arts centre box office \nDoorway provides crisis support to people at risk of or at risk of homelessness and runs groups and courses to build confidence and skills\, helping people to make positive changes to their lives\, however small.

DESCRIPTION:Popular open days on a restored stretch of canal between near Chippenham are due to return this weekend.\nHundreds of people attended last year’s events at Pewsham Locks\, a flight of locks which once lifted narrowboats on their journey north along the Wilts & Berks Canal. \nVisitors can enjoy a pop-up café\, boat trips\, and tours of the building projects and wildflower meadow.\nThe first event takes place on Saturday 10th May and will be repeated on the second Saturday of each month until October. The café and tours open from 10am\, with boat trips available from 12.30pm\, before the event closes at around 3pm. \nThe open days are organised by the Melksham\, Chippenham & Calne branch of the Wilts & Berks Canal Trust. \nSpokesperson Bright Wright said: \nWe’re looking forward to welcoming lots of visitors and sharing the progress we’ve made in bringing this historic waterway back to life. People often enjoy walking or cycling along the towpath but this is a golden opportunity to learn so much more about the charity\, our local work and our plans for the future. \nWe’ll be offering guided tours of the dry dock and carpenter’s workshop\, which are due to be completed later this year\, as well as tours of the wildflower meadow and wildlife habitats. The boat rides are especially popular\, taking passengers to Double Bridge near Reybridge and back again. We also offer exclusive trips for community groups in the mornings. \nThese rides depend on the weather and the water levels though\, so we always advise people to check our social media for any late changes. Boats depart from the wharf at Pewsham Locks\, where the pop-up café offers plenty of tea\, coffee and cake\, and lots of seating beneath the trees – it’s a great location for a relaxing day out. \nThe site is just a short walk along a footpath from the edge of Pewsham.
