SUMMARY:Chippenham Memory Cafe
DESCRIPTION:Our first café opened in 2009 as a meeting place for people with dementia and their families\, at a time when there were few opportunities to socialise with others affected. Since then our seven cafés have developed into much-valued social and information-gathering occasions where people can strike up friendships\, chat informally to professionals\, find out more about dementia and support from a wide range of speakers\, and enjoy refreshments and entertainment. \nChippenham Memory café meets fortnightly for activities\, chat\, and a chance to catch up informally with dementia professionals. As well as the general café\, there is also a quieter area where couples can sit and enjoy the refreshments and entertainment. \nFind out more and book here.

SUMMARY:Pewsham Locks Open Day
DESCRIPTION:Popular open days on a restored stretch of canal between near Chippenham are due to return this weekend.\nHundreds of people attended last year’s events at Pewsham Locks\, a flight of locks which once lifted narrowboats on their journey north along the Wilts & Berks Canal. \nVisitors can enjoy a pop-up café\, boat trips\, and tours of the building projects and wildflower meadow.\nThe first event takes place on Saturday 10th May and will be repeated on the second Saturday of each month until October. The café and tours open from 10am\, with boat trips available from 12.30pm\, before the event closes at around 3pm. \nThe open days are organised by the Melksham\, Chippenham & Calne branch of the Wilts & Berks Canal Trust. \nSpokesperson Bright Wright said: \nWe’re looking forward to welcoming lots of visitors and sharing the progress we’ve made in bringing this historic waterway back to life. People often enjoy walking or cycling along the towpath but this is a golden opportunity to learn so much more about the charity\, our local work and our plans for the future. \nWe’ll be offering guided tours of the dry dock and carpenter’s workshop\, which are due to be completed later this year\, as well as tours of the wildflower meadow and wildlife habitats. The boat rides are especially popular\, taking passengers to Double Bridge near Reybridge and back again. We also offer exclusive trips for community groups in the mornings. \nThese rides depend on the weather and the water levels though\, so we always advise people to check our social media for any late changes. Boats depart from the wharf at Pewsham Locks\, where the pop-up café offers plenty of tea\, coffee and cake\, and lots of seating beneath the trees – it’s a great location for a relaxing day out. \nThe site is just a short walk along a footpath from the edge of Pewsham. Directions are available at www.wbct.org.uk/mcc-events (please note there is no public parking at the locks). \nRefreshments and boat rides are available by cash donation or scanning a QR code. Last year’s events raised almost £2\,000. \nFor further information call 07510 326730 or email brian.wright@wbct.org.uk \nThe aim of the Wilts & Berks Canal Trust is to restore the waterway from the Kennet & Avon Canal near Melksham to the Thames & Severn Canal near Cricklade and the River Thames near Abingdon\, connecting Chippenham\, Calne\, Royal Wootton Bassett and Swindon. \nNew members are always welcome. SUMMARY:A Walk to Remember
DESCRIPTION:Pull on your walking boots for Alzheimer’s Support’s A Walk to Remember – back for its third year at Bowood on Sunday 22nd June. \nThe sponsored walk is a circular seven-miles through some of North Wiltshire’s loveliest countryside\, starting and finishing at the estate. We start with bacon/veggie butties and a fun group warm-up\, and the post-walk celebrations include a finish line welcome from Chippenham Brass Band\, a commemorative photo and medal\, plus plenty of tea and cake. \nA Walk to Remember is a lovely day out for the whole family\, and an important fundraiser for Wiltshire’s own dementia charity which support more than 2\,000 people in Wiltshire.\nEveryone walks at their own pace\, and part of the fun is the community spirit of joining in with others in a good cause. \nPlease join us!

SUMMARY:Waverley Album Listening Event Birthday Party
DESCRIPTION:This month’s event marks both the one-year anniversary of the opening of The Waverley bar in Chippenham and a full year of our monthly vinyl listening event fundraisers for Dorothy House Hospice in the bar. \nThis month we have versatile multi-instrumentalist Samuel Fox from Bristol coming along to play live for us. Samuel is deeply ingrained in Bristol’s music scene and works in many other bands with a repertoire spanning jazz\, R&B\, hip-hop\, indie-folk\, and pop\, whilst excelling in improvised music. He is a man of many talents: for example\, he also plays bass guitar for Sam Brookes’ indie-rock band Supalung and he toured Canada recently with them; and at Glastonbury this year\, he also played bass for the Welsh rap artist. Lemfreck. \nAt our event he will be showcasing tracks he has written for his own indie-folk project band that he calls Mossfellow. He does not yet have a physical release on vinyl or CD for his EP ‘Quotidian’ that came out at the end of May this year\, but we will be able to listen to a high-resolution digital copy to contrast with his live acoustic performance\, accompanied by his band member\, Nuala Honan. Samuel suggested we pair his work with an LP by Nick Drake\, who he cites as one of the key influences for the Mossfellow project\, so we will listen to Nick’s debut album ‘Five Leaves Left’. We have a brand-new copy of the vinyl LP to play which has been kindly loaned to us by the owner of Resolution Records in Bath\, who is also a keen supporter of Dorothy House Hospice. \nThe music starts at 8pm and there is no charge for entry\, but voluntary donations to the Hospice are welcomed. We will have a raffle of prizes to encourage you to dig deep – donations can be made in cash or by card via a dedicated online portal.

SUMMARY:Waverley Album Listening Party
DESCRIPTION:September’s fundraising Album Listening Party for Dorothy House at The Waverley in Chippenham will be on Wednesday September 24th from 7.30pm\, with the music starting around 8pm. \nThis month we will have a special guest acoustic live performance by local musician Reuben Tyghe and will listen to a vinyl copy of his brand new album ‘Leylanding’ released at the end of August 2025\, This is Reuben’s second album from his solo project band\, Reuben’s Daughters\, which finds the UK singer/songwriter pushing the sound of his 2022 debut LP ‘Mami Wata’ into new and fascinating places. Reuben and his band are touring in support of the record\, including appearances at the 2025 Glastonbury Festival and Beautiful Days Festival\, so its a honour and a pleasure to host him at The Waverley for our event. \n“Reuben’s Daughters is a moonlight swim under a weeping willow slide guitar forest… Ghosts and clouds turn into melodies that crouch on the banks and whisper pictures into your brain.” says Particle Kid [Micah Nelson\, son of Willie Nelson]\nReuben suggested Radiohead’s ‘OK Computer’ as a classic vinyl album to pair his work with and so we will also listen to the remastered special edition ‘OK Computer OKNOTOK 1997-2017’ LP set \nAs usual the event is open to everyone and is free to attend\, but voluntary donations to aid the work of the local Hospice are very welcome
