SUMMARY:An Avon Ginko
DESCRIPTION:A walking\, watching\, writing\, short poetry experience! \nA “ginko” is a traditional activity in Japan\, and is the term for going on a walk\, in a group\, specifically to write poetry. \nCome and write short poems with us\, on a walk along the Chippenham Avon and its environs. There’ll be plenty of time to stop\, stare\, and take notes along a maximum of 2.5 miles distance. We’ll then sit down outside (under outside cover according to weather) to finish three-line Japanese-style “haiku”\, or other short poems. A hot or cold drink will be included in the ticket price. At all points there will be plenty of one-to-one guidance\, from published poets and experienced tutors Alan Summers and Karen Hoy of Call of the Page. \nSeasons are important in Japanese poetry. We will be leading a summer\, autumn\, winter\, and spring walking writing workshop. You can book for the first one\, a summer ginko\, below. Anticipate dragonflies\, swans\, lily pads\, and willow trees. \nDate: Saturday August 13th 2022\nTime: 10 am to 1 pm \nWe start and end at Chippenham Town Bridge (less than 5 minutes walk from Chippenham station\, and car parks). The bridge postcode is SN15 1EX. \nMaximum group size: 10\nTickets: £38 full price\, including a hot or cold drink. DESCRIPTION:The Chippenham Art Group will meet monthly on Wednesdays in King Alfred Hall\, St Andrew’s Church in Chippenham Market Place. It’s led by artist Fran Young and organised by our experienced community services coordinator Pam Ollis. \nOur art groups are friendly\, relaxing\, therapeutic and fun.  People living with dementia and a family carer create their own art projects under Fran’s guidance with projects ranging from painting and drawing to collage\, printing\, crafts\, clay modelling and more. We work at a leisurely pace with plenty of time for conversation and connection.  No previous experience of art is necessary and everyone works at their own pace. People can also work on their own projects and develop their own ideas. \nFamily carers are welcome at the group as full members and encouraged to join in to create their own pieces of art. By working closely with communities\, we aim to improve our shared outcomes for people and the environment. \nA 2 year pilot project in Chippenham has been launched to test this approach. \nWe wish to work with a wide variety of stakeholders\, voluntary organisations and members of the local community to rethink water in the town\, to share ideas on what the community wants from the project\, and to shape the programme of engagement activities. \nWe will be in the shopping centre from 10am until 2pm. You might provide practical\, emotional support\, or both. In fact\, anyone could be a carer – a student supporting a housemate with early signs of an eating disorder\, a family member supporting their brother-in law with depression\, or a husband supporting his wife with complex PTSD. \nTraining delivered over 4 sessions\, covering the following topics: \n1. Understanding mental health challenges – An opportunity to explore what it can be like to experience mental health challenges and how mental health needs impact on people’s behaviour.\n2. Support people with mental health needs to make changes – To explore some of the challenges of supporting people to make changes and introduce some techniques for working with change.\n3. Conflict and crisis – Reducing and managing conflict and crises with the person you support.\n4. Learning\, reflecting and support – To be better able to establish clear boundaries\, positive communication and relationships. \nFunded by BANES\, Swindon & Wiltshire Clinical Commissioning Group (BSW CCG). \n“Caring for someone with mental health problems can often be challenging.
