DESCRIPTION:The Royal Marines Charity are on a mission to raise £1.5 million by the end of 2023 to support Royal Marines and their families through life. \nTo help them achieve this local artist\, Rae Melody\, is running a ‘Cakes for Commandos’ fundraiser. The aim of the cake sale is to highlight what the Royal Marines Charity do\, bring people from the local community together\, to enable those connected to the military to meet and share stories and to enjoy lots of cake! \nRae will also be unveiling a large scale piece of art that she is creating which will be auctioned off (at a later date) to raise money for the charity. \nPlease join Rae in raising a bit of cash\, having a cuppa and some cake and in celebrating 359 years of the Corps from 11am to 2pm on Saturday 28th October at Platinum House\, 35 Market Place\, Chippenham\, SN15 3HT (next to St Andrew’s Church).

SUMMARY:Making Spaces: Creative Project
DESCRIPTION:Chippenham Museum is launching a new project to work with Ukrainian families\, alongside a local artist\, to produce a new artwork exploring Chippenham and the surrounding area as a place of refuge. \nThe project is inspired by the work of Belgian artist Charles Wellens and Polish artist Piotr Potworowski\, who each fled conflicts in the 20th century and made their home in the area. Work by both artists is currently on display in the museum. \nThese sessions are free and family friendly\, but booking is required. \nIf you would like to take part or want to find out more please contact the museum on 01249 705020 or by emailing heritage@chippenham.gov.uk. He selects the reclusive Palme d’Or laureate Lola Cuevas (Penelope Cruz) to be the director\, with the screenplay being adapted from a Nobel Prize winning novel titled Rivalry\, about a man (Antonio Banderas) who is unable to forgive his brother (Oscar Martinez) for killing their parents in a drunk-driving incident. \nA 2021 Spanish-Argentine black comedy film\, directed by Gaston Duprat and Mariano Cohn\, the film brings together Banderas and Martinez\, the two previously appeared together in Almoldovar’s I’m So Excited\, and Cruz\, who has appears regularly in films by the same director.

DESCRIPTION:We would love for you to come along to our Pre-loved Clothes Event. We will have a range of adult and children’s clothes and other accessories (e.g. shoes & bags)\, books and toys which you can help yourselves to for free. \nWe are starting the event earlier this year\, to allow more flexibility over the time you can get there\, so please come along at the most convenient time for you. \nDonating clothes and other items is completely optional. If you do have any donations please could you drop them off at Hardenhuish School between 3.30 – 4.30pm whilst we are setting up. If this is not possible please message 07842 346776 and we can make a plan to pick up or drop off donations beforehand. To allow us to set up the hall easily before the event\, we would appreciate if you could sort adult and children’s clothes into size order and label any bags. \nThere will be free hot and cold drinks available. We will be doing a bake sale to raise money for our Chippenham CAP Debt Centre. DESCRIPTION:Cinema Paradiso is a 1988 coming of age drama written and directed by Guiseppe Tornatore. \nSet in a small Sicilian town\, the film centres on the friendship between a young boy and an aging projectionist who works at the titular movie theatre. \nThis Italian-French production stars Phillipe Noiret and Salvatore Cascio\, the film score was composed by Ennio Morricone. Credited with revitalising Italy’s film industry\, Cinema Paradiso has been cited as one of the greatest films of all time. \nIt was a commercial success\, winning several awards\, including the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film\, and the Cannes Festival’s Grand Prix\, Cinema Paradiso was nominated for 11 BAFTAs\, winning five.

DESCRIPTION:Come and join us down at The Illuminated Island as we kick start the 2023 festive season… \nFor the third year running\, come and experience the banks of the River Avon spectacularly lit up\, bringing some twinkling magic to the heart of Chippenham. \nThe event is produced and managed by local Creative Event Production company Melt Productions in partnership with Chippenham Town Council. \nAlongside the lights\, this years’ focal point will be the beautiful wooden Roundhouse; a cosy\, heated\, wooden structure – the perfect spot to enjoy our jam-packed roster of entertainment as well as some well-earned ‘Hygee’. \nNew for this year\, we have carefully curated a full schedule of Festive Fringe entertainment\, including live Music\, Comedy\, Cabaret\, Cinema Screenings\, Workshops\, and even a Festive Quiz! \nOur infamous Aprés Ski Bar will return\, serving up delicious Hot and Cold Drinks\, Mulled Wine and wintery Cocktails\, alongside some of the South West’s top-notch Food Vendors. \nThis year’s event runs from Thursday 14th – Sunday 17th December (inclusive) down at The Island\, Monkton Park (just over Town Bridge). \nThe Light Trail and Festive Fringe show times vary\, please take a look at the schedule for more information. \nChippenham-Christmas-Programme-2023 \nPlease Note:\n* Each event is free to attend and seats will be allocated on a first-come\, first-serve basis.\n* The trail is situated on uneven ground\, please ensure you wear suitable footwear.\n* Disabled access is situated along the path from the main entrance\, please alert one of our Stewards wearing high-vis should you require any assistance.\n* All dogs are required to remain on a lead throughout the trail. DESCRIPTION:Aftersun is a 2022 coming of age drama written and directed by Charlotte Wells in her feature directorial debut. Starring Paul Mescal (Normal People\, God’s Creatures)\, Frankie Corio and Celia Rowlson-Hall\, the film follows an 11-year-old girl Sophie\, on holiday with her father at a Turkish resort on the eve of his 31st birthday. \nThe film tells the story through a series of memories and personal recollections\, filtered through a haze of memory and imagination by the now-adult Sophie (Celia Rowlson-Hall) looking back on things she didn’t really understand at the time. Aftersun had its world premiere at Cannes on 21 May 2022\, where Wells was nominated for the Golden Camera\, Scottish-born\, New York-based writer-director Wells picked up a whopping 16 nominations at the British Independent Film Awards.
