DESCRIPTION:The REME Museum’s annual 1940s re-enactment and living history event\, Wartime Britain\, promises to be an amazing day out exploring the equipment\, military life and home front culture experienced by many during World War II. Every year we add something bigger and better\, with more re-enactment groups and exciting performances. \nThis year\, get ready to celebrate the 80th anniversary of VE Day in style\, featuring:1940s costume and decoration \n\nRe-enactors and living history groups telling the stories of those who lived\, served and fought in WW2\nWW2-era vehicles from the Museum’s Reserve Vehicle Collection\, private collectors and enthusiasts around the country\n‘Live’ demonstrations of WW2 equipment\, including firearms\, munitions and more (subject to groups attending and availability of equipment) – see the slideshow below for examples of previous years’ demonstrations\n1940s Swing and Big Band dance performances\nMusical performances with wartime era music\, creating a VE Day party atmosphere on our grounds!\nFull details including details of performers and re-enactors will be available on our website. Please check there for any changes.\nRefreshments will be available to purchase from Crown’s Café\, which will only be open to visitors with a ticket to the event.\nFree parking will be available in our large car park\, Blue Badge spaces must still on a first-come-first-served basis. We ask that you please reserve a parking space if you need one in advance! Once the parking spaces are gone\, they’re gone! If you can\, please consider travelling by alternative means.\nDogs are welcome on the Museum grounds but are not allowed inside the building\, with the exception of assistance dogs. Please be aware that during our Wartime Britain event\, there may be loud noises from ‘live’-firing of firearms which could scare dogs visiting. DESCRIPTION: Great opportunity for neurodiverse young people \n A set of cassettes tapes from the 1980s which haven’t been accessible for many years have just been digitised as part of the Sounds of the South West project. \n Be the first to find out the content in these oral histories\, become skilled in the technical aspects of working with audio material\, get creative using the contents as a starting point\, with the chance to be mentored by experienced practitioners who will support you every step of the way. \n You’ll be able to create something special to share with others\, learn new skills\, have fun\, and maybe make some new friends. Come and enjoy spending time in a calm\, accepting and welcoming environment. \nJoin the sessions in person or online if you’d prefer. \nThe project will run every Thursday from 10.15am-3pm from 20th March to 22nd May. DESCRIPTION:In May 2023 the ‘Blues Brothers’ drove in the annual Classic Car and bike run – Will they be back or will another amazing duo be our guests? \nThis year’s Classic Car and Bike Run takes place on Sunday 18th May and will follow a 70 mile. \nClassic Cars and Bikes start arriving at 8am at Calne Leisure Centre\, SN11 0SP Car Park\, with breakfast available and provided by Calne Lions. The best opportunity for the public to see all the cars and wave them off at the start is between 8am and 10am at Calne Leisure Centre. \nThe route will go through some of the finest Wiltshire countryside\, with a coffee stop in the  Greenhouse Coffee Shop and Restaurant  Corsham SN13 9RD and finish at Sheldon School Chippenham SN14 6HJ \nDogs are welcome on a short lead and of course there are prizes for the Best Dressed Driver/Passengers\, Cutest dog\, Presidents Favourite Car and the best Teddy or other much loved toy. \nThe event is open to cars\, motorcycles and light commercial vehicles that are 25 years or older. DESCRIPTION: Great opportunity for neurodiverse young people \n A set of cassettes tapes from the 1980s which haven’t been accessible for many years have just been digitised as part of the Sounds of the South West project. \n Be the first to find out the content in these oral histories\, become skilled in the technical aspects of working with audio material\, get creative using the contents as a starting point\, with the chance to be mentored by experienced practitioners who will support you every step of the way. \n You’ll be able to create something special to share with others\, learn new skills\, have fun\, and maybe make some new friends. Founded with the simple aim of bringing the joy and benefits of group singing to everyone\, our emphasis is on singing in a way that is\, above all else\, fun. \nRather than splitting into parts and learning harmonies\, we prefer instead to sing in unison\, infusing songs with our own rather unique mix of humour\, movement and the occasional wacky prop. \nSo if you simply love to sing\, but have yet to find the choir that perfectly complements your sense of fun\, why not come along to one of our FREE taster sessions and see what we’re all about. \n
