DESCRIPTION:Our Oral History training is taking place at The Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre on Monday 20 May\, 10am to 1pm. \nWe will have the opportunity to tour the county archives to see where the full recordings will be stored. We will learn about how to carry out and record a good oral history interview and have time to practice. \nThe session will be led by Ruth Butler from the History Centre and tea\, coffee and biscuits will be provided. \nOnce we have completed our training\, we will talk about how we are going to conduct the interviews for this project and what we are going to do with them. \nThe interviews will take place during June\, July & August and we can use The Calne Heritage Centre as a base for this. I will be coordinating the interviews. A few people have come forward to say they would like to share their stories. DESCRIPTION:Cepen Lodge care home\, in Chippenham have invited members of the local community to their monthly dementia café. \nThe first session starting on the 31st May 2024 will be hosted in conjunction with Chippenham Police\, who will be joining to discuss the Herbert Protocol and offer dementia wristbands to the community to support those who may leave their homes and get lost. \nTaking place on the last Friday of every month at 11am\, guests will have a chance to meet other carers supporting others living with dementia. Free to all\, the dementia café at the home provides small respite and social support. \nDuring the care group session\, guests will also have a chance to meet the team at the home\, to discuss any questions they might have about care. \nSenior General Manager Jade said: “We’re really looking forward to making more friends in our local community. The condition itself can be quite lonely and frightening\, and the more support we can provide to each other\, the better. If anyone is unable to make it on the day but would like to pop in for a tour and a cup of tea\, our doors are always open.” \nCepen Lodge care home is run by Barchester Healthcare\, one of the UK’s largest care providers\, which is committed to delivering high-quality care across its care homes and hospitals. Cepen Lodge provides residential care and dementia care for 63 residents from respite care to long term stays. \n

DESCRIPTION:Seven-mile charity walk for Alzheimer’s Support and a great day out for the whole family! \nPull on your walking boots and take part in A Walk to Remember on Saturday 8th June. \nIt’s a circular seven-miles through some of North Wiltshire’s loveliest countryside starting and finishing at Bowood Estate at the kind permission of the charity’s patron Lady Lansdowne. \nThe day starts with bacon or veggie butties then\, after a fun group warm-up\, we head out into the beautiful north Wiltshire countryside. Everyone walks at their own pace. You can walk with others\, stride ahead or do your own thing. There are plenty of great views and scenic places to stop for a picnic along the way. And marshals will be on hand to make sure you find your way. \nBack at the estate\, our post-walk celebrations include medals for all the finishers\, commemorative photos\, plenty of tea and cake and chance to relax with other walkers. \nPlease sign up and join us in June – you’ll have a great day out and be walking for dementia with every step.

DESCRIPTION:On 2 September 1942\, Eric Ravilious joined the crew of a military plane that was embarking on a search party for a missing aircraft off the coast of Iceland. Four days after that plane also failed to return\, the RAF declared the crew lost in action. \nEric Ravilious is as compelling and enigmatic as his art. Set against the dramatic wartime locations that inspire him\, Margy Kinmonth’s film brings to life this brilliant but still grossly undervalued British artist. Caught in the crossfire of war 80 years ago\, Ravilious’s legacy largely sank without trace\, until now. Made with the blessing of the Ravilious Estate\, this first full length feature documentary about Ravilious unfolds in his own words\, through previously unseen private correspondence and rare archive film. \nThe film features the voices of Freddie Fox\, Tamsin Greig\, Jeremy Irons & Harriet Walter and asks what his life and art tells us about the elusive concept of Englishness\, and what it means to be a war artist.
