DESCRIPTION:A walking\, watching\, writing\, short poetry experience! \nA “ginko” is a traditional activity in Japan\, and is the term for going on a walk\, in a group\, specifically to write poetry. \nCome and write short poems with us\, on a walk along the Chippenham Avon and its environs. There’ll be plenty of time to stop\, stare\, and take notes along a maximum of 2.5 miles distance. We’ll then sit down outside (under outside cover according to weather) to finish three-line Japanese-style “haiku”\, or other short poems. A hot or cold drink will be included in the ticket price. At all points there will be plenty of one-to-one guidance\, from published poets and experienced tutors Alan Summers and Karen Hoy of Call of the Page. \nSeasons are important in Japanese poetry. We will be leading a summer\, autumn\, winter\, and spring walking writing workshop. You can book for the first one\, a summer ginko\, below. Anticipate dragonflies\, swans\, lily pads\, and willow trees. \nDate: Saturday August 13th 2022\nTime: 10 am to 1 pm \nWe start and end at Chippenham Town Bridge (less than 5 minutes walk from Chippenham station\, and car parks). DESCRIPTION:The English Civil War returns to Chippenham as the Town plays host to the English Civil War Society and the town is returned to the dramatic Summer of 1643 when the Civil War raged across Wiltshire and the West Country. \nEach afternoon there will be intense conflict as the Royalist and Roundhead Armies clash in Battle on Monkton Park with over 400 Pikemen\, Musketeers\, Gunners\, and Cavalry all taking part. This event\, inspired by a dramatic moment in Chippenham’s history will prove to be a massive weekend of Entertainment\, Excitement and Education by the English Civil War Society. \nAs in 1643\, Chippenham Village will also be occupied by Royalist soldiers from Sir Ralph Hopton’s army marching from the hard-fought battle at Lansdown Hill near Bath. Soldiers and Officers will be working at their Military Encampment while expecting a visit from their General Sir Ralph. A Regiment of Foote\, Cavalry on Horseback\, and Cannon will be taking part in further displays through the day for Visitors to see on Monkton Park. \nThere will be a large and thriving encampment and tented village on The Island\, Monkton Park\, where 17th Century trades and crafts will be demonstrated by the townsfolk and including a working printing press giving out the latest newssheets with tidings of the war and other news. Here the re-enactors will be happy to meet visitors\, explain their work and to share stories about Chippenham’s role in the English Civil War. \nCheck out the full timetable giving details of all the Displays through each day: –

DESCRIPTION:The River Run is back for 2022! \nThe 5k River Run and 2k Fun Run follow a largely traffic free multi-terrain route along the banks of the River Avon\, starting and finishing in Monkton Park\, near the Olympiad Leisure Centre. \nThe River Run is a great community event which attracts people of all abilities and ages. The 5k distance means that it is ideal for the beginners and the inclusion of the Fun Run makes it the perfect summer evening event for families. The 5k is open to anyone aged 13 and over and the Fun Run is for 4 – 14 year olds. \nPrizes in age categories for both races. All 5k finishers will receive a Tech T shirt with a brand new design for 2022. All Fun Run 2k finishers receive a medal.
