SUMMARY:Battle of Chippenham Re-enactment
DESCRIPTION:The English Civil War returns to Chippenham as the Town plays host to the English Civil War Society and the town is returned to the dramatic Summer of 1643 when the Civil War raged across Wiltshire and the West Country. \nEach afternoon there will be intense conflict as the Royalist and Roundhead Armies clash in Battle on Monkton Park with over 400 Pikemen\, Musketeers\, Gunners\, and Cavalry all taking part. This event\, inspired by a dramatic moment in Chippenham’s history will prove to be a massive weekend of Entertainment\, Excitement and Education by the English Civil War Society. \nAs in 1643\, Chippenham Village will also be occupied by Royalist soldiers from Sir Ralph Hopton’s army marching from the hard-fought battle at Lansdown Hill near Bath. Soldiers and Officers will be working at their Military Encampment while expecting a visit from their General Sir Ralph. A Regiment of Foote\, Cavalry on Horseback\, and Cannon will be taking part in further displays through the day for Visitors to see on Monkton Park. \nThere will be a large and thriving encampment and tented village on The Island\, Monkton Park\, where 17th Century trades and crafts will be demonstrated by the townsfolk and including a working printing press giving out the latest newssheets with tidings of the war and other news. Here the re-enactors will be happy to meet visitors\, explain their work and to share stories about Chippenham’s role in the English Civil War. \nCheck out the full timetable giving details of all the Displays through each day: –

DESCRIPTION:This is the tenth year we have held this event and it grows in size and popularity every year. \nThe site is in the Chippenham countryside with the Avon close by – and a couple of miles north of Chippenham and about three miles south of the M4 J17. \nIt has good access through wide lanes with plenty of easy parking – so why not make it a day out… \nWe will have a large variety of attractions for all the family to enjoy and we expect to have in excess of 250 cherished cars attending as well as a performance arena\, a fairground\, Local Foods\, Craft\, Charity and Trade Stands. \nThe entrance will be £7 for adults (children under 10 go free) and all money raised will go to Wiltshire Air Ambulance and Relate with Lions Charities – local\, national and international.

DESCRIPTION:Join Chippenham Museum’s resident crafters for a relaxed afternoon with Fi Redmond. Fi is a local textile artist whose work features in the museum’s exhibition\, The Covid Chronicle. \nOver tea and cake\, find out more about how lockdown and the global pandemic influenced Fi’s practice and gain insight into taking part in this national project featured in the museum’s gallery. This event is free to enjoy but booking is essential. \nChippenham Museum’s Crafty Café meet once a fortnight 2pm – 3.30pm for an afternoon of craft\, coffee and conversation. Drop-in for a chance to talk with other crafters\, swap patterns and share skills. \nYou are welcome to stay for the full 1.5 hour session and bring your own crafts. DESCRIPTION:“The Festival of Christmas” is a series of events in Chippenham celebrating all things festive running from Sunday 28th November until Sunday 19th December. \nThe launch day takes place on Sunday 28 November\, when Chippenham Town Centre will be full of fun and free entertainment between 10am – 7pm\, bringing the community together safely to enjoy a range of activities including: \nLantern Making Workshops and Glitter-Glo Face Paintingat the Town Hall\, 11am-4pm \nFire Performers in the Market Place\, at intervals between 4pm-6pm \nFestive Stilt-walkers on the High Street\, at intervals between 10am-4pm \nSnow Globe Photo Experience in Borough Parade\, 9am-6pm \nMeet Santa at the Yelde Hall\, 10am-6pm (SOLD OUT) \nIn addition to the events above\, the High Street will host a festive Artisan Market between 10am-7pm. There will be over 30 stalls to visit and enjoy across the day including artisan cider\, mulled wine\, and roasted chestnuts as well as\, handmade gifts\, and baked goods. \nA small community stage will also feature in Market Place where the Christmas Tree can be found. The stage will feature a variety of local acts between 11am – 6pm including Corsham and Colerne Military Wives Choir\, Chippenham’s Dancing Academy\, Ministry of Samba\, Rock Choir: Trowbridge\, Frome\, Warminster/Westbury and Chippenham\, CLOGG’s Musical Theatre. \nThe Christmas lights will be switched on at  5pm however\, to reduce the risk of mass gathering there won’t be an official countdown\, or switch on this year. \n \n
