SUMMARY:Green Open Homes Chippenham
DESCRIPTION:Green Open Homes Chippenham is an opportunity to ask a Chippenham home owner about an energy saving improvement they’ve made\, and see if it might work for you. \nPeople who have made energy saving improvements open up their homes for free in-person visits to share their experiences. Visiting a home is a great way to find out about the reality of getting solar panels\, insulation\, triple glazing\, or a heat pump without talking to a salesman. \nYou can have a good look at the technology\, ask the home owner how easy or difficult their improvements were\, and find out how much they’re really saving on their energy bills as a result.

SUMMARY:Bat & Moth Evening at Baydons Meadow
DESCRIPTION:Join our annual quest for bats and moths in and around Baydons Meadow! \nMeet at 8.30pm on Friday\, 22nd August\, by the interpretation board and log seat near the cycle path and blue footbridge over the Avon. \nPaul Darby\, who used to work for the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust\, will chat about the bats and lend out several bat detectors for the evening so that we can listen out for the clicks from their calls as we look up for them flitting through the trees just after dusk. \nMichael Sammes\, amateur-lepidopterist of our group\, will talk about and show us any moths that visit the moth-trap and white sheet that he will put out there. He also hopes to have run his moth-trap on the previous evening in his garden nearby and so to reveal some moths that he has identified and temporarily captured which can then be released. \nBoth Paul and Michael are inquisitive and knowledgeable on all things in nature\, so it should prove an interesting evening. \nPlease see Baydons Meadow Wildlife Group website https://baydonsmeadow.org.uk/ for information about our volunteer group\, our management of the meadow and how you can get involved.

SUMMARY:Bristol Avon Rivers Trust - Yellow Fish
DESCRIPTION:Join BART to help protect your local river this Wednesday 14th February. \nWe want to raise awareness of the impact road drains can have on river health. Often these drains lead directly into rivers carrying whatever untreated pollutants are put down them along too. This can be very damaging to river ecosystems. \nTo raise awareness that “only rain should go down the drain” we need local volunteers who are passionate about protecting rivers to help BART staff to paint yellow fish symbols next to these drains using biodegradable spray paint. \nOpen to children aged 5-15 years\, accompanied by responsible adult. Spaces limited and booking essential: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/yellowfish-campaign-chippenham-tickets-807905776927?aff=eivtefrnd

SUMMARY:Bristol Avon Rivers Trust - Yellow Fish
DESCRIPTION:Only rain down the drain! \nDid you know that surface road drains lead directly into your local watercourse? This means that anything other than rain poured down the drain\, such as litter\, car oils\, detergents\, weed killers or wastewater can harm river health and its wildlife! \nBristol Avon River Trust (BART) are running an exciting Yellow Fish Campaign in the local area to help raise awareness of the impacts of human activity on water quality in the Bristol Avon. We are hosting a series of Yellowfish events with the local community\, which involves putting up posters to spread the message and painting yellow fish next to surface drains to remind the public that what enters the drain\, flows directly into the nearby river or stream. \nVolunteers will use stencils and chalk-based yellow spray paint to mark a yellow fish shape (a great family friendly activity!) \nBristol Avon Rivers Trust: is a charity which delivers education\, land and river management advice and practical river restoration work throughout the Bristol Avon catchment. BART is working in partnership with Wessex Water through the Community Connectors project (https://www.wessexwater.co.uk/visit-and-learn/community-connectors). Together\, we aim to re-connect the community with our river and to benefit local people and wildlife. \nSign up via our Eventbrite page: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/yellow-fish-event-tickets-647968520287

SUMMARY:Wessex Water Community Connectors - drop-in engagement event
DESCRIPTION:Visit the Wessex Water stand in Emery Gate shopping centre to discuss how we can change the way we work with communities towards shared environmental and social goals. \nThe Wessex Water Community Connectors project is at the heart of transforming the way we work towards shared goals with the communities we serve. By working closely with communities\, we aim to improve our shared outcomes for people and the environment. \nA 2 year pilot project in Chippenham has been launched to test this approach. \nWe wish to work with a wide variety of stakeholders\, voluntary organisations and members of the local community to rethink water in the town\, to share ideas on what the community wants from the project\, and to shape the programme of engagement activities. \nWe will be in the shopping centre from 10am until 2pm. Please drop by – we would love to have a chat. There is no need to book (but booking will send you a reminder of the event!). \nThe nearest parking is at Emery Gate car park (charges apply). \nWe look forward to meeting with you.

SUMMARY:Earth Care Choices Day
DESCRIPTION:A free event for everyone\, Earth Care Choices Day at Sheldon Road Methodist Church is back following the postponement due to Covid! \nWe are very aware that there are many HUGE challenges in everyone’s lives at the moment\, but we want this occasion to encourage all of us by celebrating all the options that many of us have already chosen to engage with climate change action. \nThe problem hasn’t gone away. Climate change in our world requires all of us to take some actions in our lifestyles: we don’t need a handful of people doing climate action perfectly\, we need millions of people doing it imperfectly! \nCome and be part of this celebration: an interactive display from local individuals\, groups and organisations! Find out more about what is possible and share your own experiences and ideas!\nRefreshments and a simple lunch served. Contact admin@sheldonroad.church for more information.

SUMMARY:Tiny Forest Carbon Measuring
DESCRIPTION:Tiny forest carbon measuring week (17-25 September 2022)\nOn Saturday 17th September 2022\, we’re asking for volunteers to take park in Earthwatch Europe’s Tiny Forest carbon week by measuring and recording all silver numbered tagged trees at Monkton Park’s Tiny Forest. \nWhy take part?\nCarbon Week has benefits both for you\, and for science! \nBy taking part in citizen science\, you become a vital part of our environmental research. We use science to better understand the environmental challenges we face\, and to find solutions to these issues. In particular\, the data you provide will allow us to calculate the carbon stored at your Tiny Forest so we can understand changes over time and location. \nThe health and wellbeing benefits of spending time in nature are well-documented. Taking part in a Tiny Forest citizen science survey is a great opportunity to spend some mindful time outside in your local area. It’s also a brilliant way to connect with your community and spend time with family and friends in the fresh air and green space. \nFor more information\, please visit: https://tinyforest.earthwatch.org.uk/carbon-week-2022
