DESCRIPTION:On 2 September 1942\, Eric Ravilious joined the crew of a military plane that was embarking on a search party for a missing aircraft off the coast of Iceland. Four days after that plane also failed to return\, the RAF declared the crew lost in action. \nEric Ravilious is as compelling and enigmatic as his art. Set against the dramatic wartime locations that inspire him\, Margy Kinmonth’s film brings to life this brilliant but still grossly undervalued British artist. Caught in the crossfire of war 80 years ago\, Ravilious’s legacy largely sank without trace\, until now. Made with the blessing of the Ravilious Estate\, this first full length feature documentary about Ravilious unfolds in his own words\, through previously unseen private correspondence and rare archive film. \nThe film features the voices of Freddie Fox\, Tamsin Greig\, Jeremy Irons & Harriet Walter and asks what his life and art tells us about the elusive concept of Englishness\, and what it means to be a war artist.

Starring Aleksei Serebryakov (MacMafia)\, Elena Lyadova\, and Vladimir Vdovichenkov\, the film was selected to compete for the Palme d’Or in the main competition section at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival where Zvyagintsev and Negin won the award for Best Screenplay. \nThe film was judged the best film of the year at the 2014 BFI London Film Festival and the 45th International Film Festival of India. It won the Best Foreign Language Film award at the 72nd Golden Globe Awards and the Asia Pacific Screen Award for Best Feature Film in 2014. It was also nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film at the 87th Academy Awards.

It is considered by many to be one of the most influential films of the 1980s\, as well as one of the greatest films of all time.

DESCRIPTION:Following their parents divorce\, three sisters live in the house of their grandparents in Kamakura. One day\, they receive news of the death of their father\, whom they have not seen in fifteen years. At the funeral\, they meet their fourteen year old half-sister\, who is living with her stepmother and stepbrother. \nAfter observing the behaviour of the stepmother at the funeral\, the sisters invite their sister\, whom they have just met\, to live with them\, in their grandmother’s home. \nOur Little Sister received the most nominations (12) at the 39th Japan Academy Prize\, winning four of them including Picture of the Year and Director of the Year. The four actresses who portrayed the sisters were all awarded or nominated for the acting awards. Haruka Ayase was nominated for Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role\, Masami Nagasawa and Kaho were nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Supporting Actress in a Leading Role and Suzu Hirose won Newcomer of the Year). \nThe film also won Audience Award at San Sebastián International Film Festival.

Alexandra Borbely (Maria) won the European Actress award at the European Film Awards for her performance in the film. \nOn Body and Soul is an 18 certificate\, and is therefore not suitable for all audiences.

Showcasing live Music and Comedy from some excellent musicians and comedians\, to Film Screenings\, Festive Workshops\, Artisan Market stall traders and even a live Brass Band playing Christmas Carols by Candlelight! \nThe event is funded by Chippenham Town Council in collaboration with Melt Productions and is a completely free experience for the local community and surrounding areas to enjoy. \nAll seating will be allocated on a first come\, first serve basis\, so please ensure you arrive nice and early if you are keen to watch any of the live shows and entertainment. \nThis years’ focal point will once again be the beautiful wooden Roundhouse\, a cosy\, heated wooden structure serving up delicious hot and cold drinks and tasty food from local vendors. DESCRIPTION:A 2022 South Korean neo-noir romantic mystery film directed\, co-written and produced by Park Chan-wook\, the film follows a married detective played by Park Hae-il (Memories of Murder)\, whose investigation of a man’s death leads him to the man’s widow\, Chinese immigrant Song Seo-rae (Tang Wei (Long Day’s Journey Into Night)). Hae-jun’s investigation of Seo-rae as a suspect gradually leads him to develop feelings towards her. \nDecision to Leave received critical acclaim\, being named one of the top five international films of 2022 by the National Board of Review\, it was selected as the South Korean entry for Best International Feature Film at the 95th Academy Awards\, making the December shortlist.

DESCRIPTION:Set during the 1992–1993 War in Abkhazia\, Tangerines is a 2013 Estonian-Georgian film written\, produced\, and directed by Zaza Urushadze. \nSet in a rural village in a Russian-backed separatist region in the newly independent Georgia\, Ivo and his friend Margus are the only two\, of their once large community\, who have not fled the war\, so they can harvest the lucrative tangerine crop. \nTragically\, despite their best efforts to avoid the surrounding conflict\, the war quickly finds Ivo and Margus. \nTangerines is a brilliant exploration of conflict and war\, reconciliation\, and pacifism\, and was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film award at the 87th Academy Awards and the 72nd Golden Globe Awards.

Whether you’re passionate about music videos\, documentary storytelling\, or narrative shorts\, this workshop will equip you with the essential skills to bring your ideas to life. Learn practical editing techniques using accessible mobile applications like CapCut and iMovie (familiarity with these apps is advantageous but not required). Participants are encouraged to bring a mobile device with a camera function\, if available. By the session’s conclusion\, you will have collaboratively created a short film and gained invaluable insights into the art of filmmaking. DESCRIPTION:Mark your calendar for the out-of-this-world\, fantastical Sci-Fi Day at the REME Museum on Saturday 20 September 2025! \nThis event is getting bigger and better each year\, with more iconic memorabilia from your favourite Sci-Fi franchises\, ‘real life’ creatures roaming the museum’s galleries\, special celebrity guests\, merchandise purchasing opportunities and of course cosplay! \nUpdates on celebrities will be announced on our social media channels\, event webpage and email newsletter. We always encourage visitors to get tickets early to avoid disappointment! \nFree parking is available in our large car park\, including Blue Badge spaces on a first-come-first-served basis. We ask that you please reserve a parking space if you need one in advance. If you can\, please consider travelling by alternative means. \nCrown’s Cafe will be serving treats that are out-of-this-world! From hot barista-style drinks to sandwiches\, quiches and cakes\, you’ll find something for everyone to enjoy. Since this is a ticket-only event\, the cafe and play park will be closed to general visitors without a ticket on this day. \nPricing: Adult £15\, Child £7.50\, Family £40\, Gold Card Holders £5. No other discounts are available for this event and annual passes do not apply. SUMMARY:Chippenham Film Club May 2026 Screening: 'Exhibition on Screen: Dawn of Impressionism - Paris 1874' (rating PG)
DESCRIPTION:Chippenham Film Club was founded in 2022 to bring films to the town that would not normally be seen on the big screen in Chippenham. The club is run by a small group of volunteers\, with stewarding provided by the Reel Cinema theatre. The films on the programme are all selected by the members\, and all are films which have not been shown locally or received wide exposure nationally. \nYou do not need to be a film club member to attend a screening but subscribing to the club gives a 35% discount on the entry fee. \nThe Impressionists are the most popular group in art history – millions flock every year to marvel at their masterpieces. But\, to begin with\, they were scorned\, penniless outsiders. 1874 was the year that changed everything; the first Impressionists\, “hungry for independence”\, broke the mould by holding their own exhibition outside official channels. Impressionism was born and the art world was changed forever. \nAli Ray’s documentary begins with footage from a 2024 exhibition jointly held by the Musée d’Orsay in Paris and the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC which restages the original Paris show of 1874. The story is told not by historians and curators but in the words of those who witnessed the dawn of Impressionism: the artists\, press and people of Paris\, 1874.
