SUMMARY:Medieval Day: Festival of Archaeology
DESCRIPTION:Saturday 20 July\n10.30am – 3.30pm\nFree\, suitable for all ages \nJoin us as we explore all things Medieval as part of the 550th anniversary celebration of Maud Heath and her Causeway. \nWith the help of some inspiring re-enactors\, we will be recreating a Medieval market in the town’s Market Place. Discover what life was like during the Medieval period with displays of cooking\, clothing\, and arts & crafts of the time. \nEnjoy the popular melodies of the day performed by music duo Pease Pottage and help compose a Maud Heath song in a special workshop with local song writer and performer Louise Jordan. Listen to a specially performed piece by poet and musician Nick Harper telling the story of the legendary Maud\, taking place in the Yelde Hall at 11am\, 12.30pm and 2pm. \nVisit the Museum’s current exhibition\, Re/imagining Maud Heath which explores the different ways Maud Heath and her Causeway have been celebrated by artists\, writers\, and everyday people across the centuries. \nThe Museum will also be joined by its Young Archaeology Group who will be running children’s activities as part of Festival of Archaeology along with the Conservation and Museums Advisory Service who will be demonstrating how we care for objects in the collection with help from our volunteers.

DESCRIPTION:Our Oral History training is taking place at The Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre on Monday 20 May\, 10am to 1pm. \nWe will have the opportunity to tour the county archives to see where the full recordings will be stored. We will learn about how to carry out and record a good oral history interview and have time to practice. \nThe session will be led by Ruth Butler from the History Centre and tea\, coffee and biscuits will be provided. \nOnce we have completed our training\, we will talk about how we are going to conduct the interviews for this project and what we are going to do with them. \nThe interviews will take place during June\, July & August and we can use The Calne Heritage Centre as a base for this. I will be coordinating the interviews. A few people have come forward to say they would like to share their stories. DESCRIPTION:Join us at the REME Museum for our annual re-enactment and living history event “Wartime Britain” over the weekend of 11 – 12 May 2024! Come along for an amazing weekend exploring the equipment\, military life and home front culture experienced by many during World War II. \nFeaturing: \n\nWW2-era vehicles from the Museum’s Reserve Collection and from private collectors and enthusiasts around the country;\nRe-enactment/living history groups and individuals re-telling the history and stories of those who lived through World War II;\nPeriod costume;\nLive demonstrations of WW2 equipment\, including firearms;\nPerformances from the Lyneham Military Wives Choir\n\nRefreshments will be available to purchase from Crown’s Café\, which will only be open to visitors with a ticket to the event. Free parking\, including Blue Badge spaces on a first-come-first-served basis. We ask that you please reserve a parking space if you need one in advance! If you can\, please consider travelling by alternative means. \nTickets available from 1 February 2024.

How do they both regard their families\, their faith\, the Jewish people and the occupation of Holland? \nThey begin in different worlds\, but eventually come face to face with each other.
