DESCRIPTION:I’m happy to announce the next two static sessions of History Portal Club\, planned for September. \nHistory Portal Club is friendly regular meet-up for curious locals who love stories from the past\, hidden landmarks\, and great company. It’s a great way to explore the local area’s past together – no lectures\, no stuffy rooms\, just walking\, talking\, pub chats\, and stories you won’t find in the guidebooks. \nOn Tuesday 30 September we’ll explore the two periods of unrest Chippenham experienced – Why Did Chippenham Have Two Riots? – looking at causes\, effects\, and how we frame these both today and in the 19th century when they occurred. \nTogether we’ll explore and dissect the two incidents of unrest in the 19th century.\nWhat happened?\nWho was involved?\nWhere did they take place? \nThis club session will explore the action from all angles\, looking at cause and effect and tragic outcome\, and put the two riots into context\, from the perspective of the times they occurred and our modern viewpoints. \nThere’s more information on both the sessions here – www.lucywhitfieldhistorian.co.uk/history-club – and on how History Portal Club works. \nWe’re a friendly and very welcoming group.
