It’s a great way to explore the local area’s past together – no lectures\, no stuffy rooms\, just walking\, talking\, pub chats\, and stories you won’t find in the guidebooks.

DESCRIPTION:A town walk meeting of History Portal Club\, with Lucy Whitfield\, Historian. \nThe guy that built the house that is now the Brunel Pub\, by the arches\, was John Provis. He\, and his identically named dad\, built a lot more of Chippenham than that – the Bear Hotel for example\, and loads more. And Lucy’s been digging further into the family – so there’s some surprises to come. \nThis walk and talk will take in factors which shaped the town in the late 18th and early 19th centuries\, through the eyes and work of this prominent family\, who also had a celebrated artist in their ranks. \nMeet Lucy Whitfield at Cousin Norman’s at 10am for a gentle walk through what Mr Provis got up to. \nHistory Portal Club is a friendly regular meet-up for curious locals who love stories from the past\, hidden landmarks\, and great company.
