SUMMARY:Waverley Album Listening Event: January 2026
DESCRIPTION:The Waverley Album Club is a free monthly musical fundraiser for Dorothy House Hospice in Chippenham where we listen to vinyl records alongside occasional live music from local artists. \nWe have some brand new local live music for you from Chippenham’s own Robert McLeod aka Mac Lloyd at the first WALE of 2026 fundraiser for Dorothy House Hospice at the usual time of 8pm sharp on Wednesday January 21st. \nHe will be bringing his band ‘The Chosen Kin’ to play some tracks live for us from his debut album ‘Hold Fast’ first and then we will listen in full to the whole album on vinyl. It’s an interesting record in that the vinyl was manufactured by a new process technology different from the traditional stamper press method. \nThe music on the album is all self-composed and is an intriguing and very accessible blend of rootsy americana\, blues and soul. The album was launched at the end of November 2025 at a sold-out event at the Old Road Tavern in Chippenham. Copies of the album and other merchandise will be available to buy on the night. \nWe will finish the evening by remembering and talking about the work of David Robert Jones\, better known as David Bowie\, who left us ten years ago on January 10th 2016. We have chosen to pair the Mac Lloyd record with Bowie’s 1971 classic LP ‘Hunky Dory’ – with the help of Iain at Longwell Records in Keynsham (about to move to Clifton Arcade in Bristol) I found a really good quality 1980 re-issue copy of the vinyl for us to listen to. \nAs usual this is a FREE event but we welcome donations to the work of the Hospice.

DESCRIPTION:Trio Paradis (Jacquelyn Bevan – piano\, Ruth O’Shea – violin & Linda Stocks – cello) play a Café Concert at St Andrew’s Church on the first Tuesday of each month at 11am: a 45-minute concert of mainly classical music\, introduced by the performers. There is a pop-up café from 10.15am where you can meet friends and make new ones over tea/coffee and home-made cakes. \nOur first programme of 2026 is a varied collection of music by composers of African origin\, from Joseph Bologne Chevalier de Saint-George\, who was a contemporary of Mozart\, to 20th century composers\, in particular from North America. \nThere’s no need to book\, though an RSVP via our website is appreciated. DESCRIPTION:Singing Mamas groups are supportive spaces to meet\, connect and sing beautiful group harmony with NO musical experience needed. There’s no sheet music or lyrics sheets\, everything is taught by ear and we’ll have toys to keep the teeny ones busy while you enjoy some singing. Come as you are and take some time for you! \nIf you’d like to learn some songs that aren’t traditional nursery rhymes\, if you love singing but can’t get to a choir because you’d need to bring your little one(s)\, if you’d like to meet other mums\, if you’d just like to get out of the house and brighten up a February morning then this is the perfect session for you! \nThis free taster at Chippenham library will be around an hour long and will give you a really good flavour of what Singing Mamas is all about. There aren’t any tickets but please let us know if you’re planning on coming. Hear Bach’s greatest hits performed on oboe\, cor anglais\, violin and piano while a professional bubbleologist creates giant bubbles\, bubbles within bubbles and smoke-filled bubbles that float and shimmer through the air. \nA joint production between Music for Miniatures and Mirabelle Arts\, performed by Julie Payne and Aelfwyn Shipton\, Bubble Bach mixes exceptional musicianship with comedy\, silliness and awe-inspiring visuals.
