DESCRIPTION:In extracts from Shakespeare’s Henry IV\, Shakespeare Live’s team of actors take multiple roles to tell the story of the tortuous relationship between Prince Hal\, the future Henry V\, and the dissolute knight Sir John Falstaff. Shakespeare mingles comedy\, drama and pathos in the tale of the young prince coming of age and finding his destiny\, while the boastful\, blustering Falstaff follows haplessly in his wake. The scene moves from the seedy streets and taverns of London\, across highways and battlefields\, to reach the final denouement at the court of the newly-crowned King Henry V. \nThis long-established and well-regarded Shakespeare theatre company produces annual productions in the grounds of Cleeve House\, Seend\, Wiltshire\, SN12 6PG. \nShakespeare Live has been running  for over 30 years and is a group of talented and skilled actors and technicians who give their time and energy for free. DESCRIPTION:Comedy fans in the area are in for a real treat this summer as the Chippenham Comedy Festival returns from 5th-7th July. The event is hosted by The Chippenham Comedy Club\, which has been bringing laughter to the town for over two decades thanks to\, award-winning comedian\, Wil Hodgson. The festival promises a hilarious lineup of top comedic talent from across the UK. \n\n\nThe comedy festival kicks off on Friday 5th July at 7pm with Eddie French’s “Poser” – a standup show exploring punk rock\, gender\, nerds and more. Followed at 8:30pm by Stephanie Laing with “Rudder” – a unique blend of standup\, dance\, and cartoon bears tackling bodies\, sex\, liking yourself\, consent\, and healing. Closing out Friday night at 10pm is Stephen Carlin with “Frenemies” where the longtime lone wolf finally embraces society after being a “fully paid up member of the awkward squad”  \nSaturday’s riotous lineup begins at 1:15pm with Bristol favourite\, Burt Williamson’s “Riding Bareback Through Your Mind.” Then at 2:30pm it’s Phil Ellis\, as seen and heard on BBC Radio 4\, BBC2\, Comedy Central and Sky\, before Caitriona Dowden brings her debut solo hour “Holier Than Thou” complete with graphs\, Catholic guilt\, and floating nuns at 3:45pm. Nate Kitch ponders tomorrow’s uncertainties at 5pm followed by Katie Mitchell’s “Wretched” – silly goth standup at its best at 7:15pm. Science fans are in for a treat at 8:30pm with Robin Ince\, the co-host of the legendary “Infinite Monkey Cage” with Brian Cox. Capping off Saturday is the popular “The Real Cheesemakers” band with support from Tom Veck at 10pm. \nSunday starts off at 12:30pm with the dynamic duo of Robin & Wil bringing “Something for the Weekend” – a show filled with random chats and funny observations. Then at 2pm\, David Hoare takes the stage with “1000% Musical Comedy” – a bumper show brimming with silliness and joyfully rude songs. Award winning viral sensation Sooz Kempner follows at 3:30pm with “Class of 2000” before Dani Johns gets viewers laughing off life’s cringeworthy moments with her appropriately titled “Cringe” at 5pm. DESCRIPTION:The man who once told us he loved us from the bottom of his pencil case\, founder Beautiful South member Dave Hemingway returns with his new band SUNBIRDS. \nHaving retired from the live scene at the back end of 2016\, Dave has been keeping busy together with erstwhile South colleague\, guitarist/songwriter Phil Barton\, new discovery singer/violinist Laura Wilcockson and drummer Marc Parnell. \n‘Cool To Be Kind’ was released in November 2020\, on the independent label Nectar Records signalling the arrival of Sunbirds with new songs and a new sound. \nAlthough born and bred in England\, the band’s sound predominantly features the instrumentation of traditional American roots music combined with the occasional outburst of guitar heavy melody more associated with Seattle in the late 80’s/early 90’s. \nHowever\, you can only sing about what you know. \n“Although a lot of the songs have an Americana feel” says Dave “they’re still about life in England. You’re going to feel a bit daft singing about pick-up trucks and low down honky-tonks when you live in Yorkshire.” \nTheir debut album produced by cult producer Teo Miller\, captures truthful\, open-hearted\, funny and sometimes painfully honest songs\, turning the page to a new chapter for Dave Hemingway and The Beautiful South story. \n‘Cool To Be Kind’ is the result of a few transitional years in Dave and Phil’s individual personal worlds.
