It’ll be a fun hour of creativity and information that might just change your life\, if not\, it’ll certainly make your day more fun.\nAs part of the Teen Takeover weekend\, the fantastic Christian Foley will be hosting a Hip-hop poetry workshop at Chippenham Library. \nA writer\, rapper and a teacher – all at once\, Christian’s interactive freestyles and improvised performances have been lauded by stars like 50 Cent\, and the creator of the musical Hamilton\, as well as FIFA. Having gone viral multiple times\, he’s a regular on television and radio\, amassing over thirty million views worldwide. \nChristian is one of the few poets in the world selected to complete a ‘Spoken Word Education Programme’ and Teaching MA at Goldsmiths University\, an opportunity which was created to transform professional poets into specialised facilitators. Love Stories\, by Mark Rutterford\, promises a Valentine’s Day event like no other and one you’ll never forget. As the audience eats Love Heart sweets\, they will hear tales of love affairs and heartache but like any romantic encounter\, Love Stories is not a passive experience. \nAudience engagement is a big part of the show. It’s the audience that decides who wins the World Cup of Love Songs\, what happens in one story and\, having heard Mark’s best and worst romantic moments\, they’ll be invited to share their own triumphs and disasters. Laughs and empathy are guaranteed. \nThis interactive theatre piece is that latest offering from Kandu Arts\, a Chippenham based company that has been using the arts and activities to explore a wide range of issues and nurture strong relationships within the community for 25 years. \nAn alien reports that he just ‘doesn’t get it\,’ but the 4-Star Review from last year’s Bath Fringe Festival says that you will feel the connection and that you might be beguiled into leaving your cynic at the door. \n“the connection…is what makes the night – during our short time together we become friends hanging out” \nBackground \nMark Rutterford is a writer-performer that has been performing stories across the South West for a decade. Love Stories is Mark’s first solo show – it made its debut at Bath Fringe Festival in May 2023 (4-Stars) and went on to Shaftesbury Fringe in July and Camden Fringe in August last year. The mix of performance\, props\, emotions and audience engagement are key features in the inclusive\, funny and entertaining show Mark wanted to create. He is delighted to be working with Kandu Arts and to be performing in Chippenham for the first time – he hopes to do more of both in future. \nKandu Arts for sustainable development is based in Chippenham\, Wiltshire\, and has worked since 1998 with communities\, often the most marginalized and hardest to reach up and down the country. They use music\, film\, visual arts & sport as a means to explore a wide range of issues. Combined with nurturing strong relationships\, this approach is highly effective in areas of engaging the disaffected\, increasing community cohesion and development.

This year\, as often before the pandemic\, we are proud that the production was picked by the RSC for performance at their open-air Dell space in Stratford upon Avon in August. International opera star Neil Latchman and rock singer Keri Farish lead the vocalists\, accompanied by Nigel Linacre and Gavin Macrae\, both of whom have lost a son to suicide.

SUMMARY:Gabriel Longbotham - Liz Lawrence Award Winner's Concert
DESCRIPTION:Wiltshire Rural Music are proud to present our 2022 Liz Laurence Award Winner GABRIEL LONGBOTHAM on Saturday 29th July at The Cause\, Chippenham. \n“An evening of beautiful\, soulful music showcasing Devizes’ finest young talent – the incredible Gabriel Longbotham” \nGabriel is a 19 year old pianist\, organist and songwriter from Devizes. He attended St Augustine’s School in Trowbridge and is currently studying music at Royal Northern College in Manchester. He won our Liz Lawrence Award last April after wowing the judges with his talent on piano. \nAs a Wiltshire based charity\, WRM aims to provide young people with access to music without the barrier of cost. Gabriel received bursaries from WRM to assist him in his musical studies\, and\, as a result of support from this scheme\, he achieved his Grade 8. \nThe Liz Laurence Award consists of a £1\,000 prize which was presented by the Mayor of Devizes\, but also the chance to perform a one off hometown gig with the charity’s help.
