SUMMARY:Chippenham Harriers River Run
DESCRIPTION:The River Run is back for 2022! \nThe 5k River Run and 2k Fun Run follow a largely traffic free multi-terrain route along the banks of the River Avon\, starting and finishing in Monkton Park\, near the Olympiad Leisure Centre. \nThe River Run is a great community event which attracts people of all abilities and ages. The 5k distance means that it is ideal for the beginners and the inclusion of the Fun Run makes it the perfect summer evening event for families. The 5k is open to anyone aged 13 and over and the Fun Run is for 4 – 14 year olds. \nPrizes in age categories for both races. All 5k finishers will receive a Tech T shirt with a brand new design for 2022. All Fun Run 2k finishers receive a medal.

SUMMARY:The Arc Jam
DESCRIPTION:The Arc Jam is a chance to celebrate the official opening of The Arc\, a brand-new climbing centre\, skatepark and cafe facility in Chippenham. \nThe Arc Jam will include: – \n\ndemonstrations by professional skateboarders\nskatepark competitions with prizes\nphotos and video opportunities on the day to show off your skills in the bowl\nclimbing demonstrations on the outside wall\n\nCanvas \nThe skatepark was designed and built by Bristol Skatepark design specialists\, CANVAS\, who will be hosting the range of activities around the skatepark on the 9th. The skatepark competitions will be split up into different categories depending on those in attendance on the day. These will be carried out in an ‘informal jam format’ to ensure that the day is inclusive to all ages and abilities. Prizes awarded to those e.g. who are doing impressive tricks\, having the most fun\, showing the most progression etc. \nClimbing demonstrations \nThere will also be climbing demonstrations from a wide range of climbers on the outside wall from 12-3pm but the climbing centre and café will be open as normal. \nEverest climber – Kenton Cool \nLegendary British climber\, Kenton Cool\, will also be attending the launch event. In May this year he is attempting to summit Everest for a record-breaking 16th attempt. He was the first man to climb Nuptse\, Everest and Lhotse in a climbing season.  A great opportunity to see and meet one of Britain’s most high-profile and celebrated climbers. \n\nThe Arc was built by Chippenham Borough Lands Charity (CBLC) and is being run by The Climbing Academy (TCA). This brand new purpose-built centre offers bouldering\, roped climbing\, a cafe and the free skatepark overlooking Westmead playing field. \nThe Arc \nThe Arc is a safe and supportive space for families\, individuals and youth or community groups. You can start bouldering anytime without doing a course\, but the centre offers taster sessions and beginners roped courses for newcomers\, as well as skills coaching. \nAn accessible sport \nClimbing is a welcoming sport that is accessible to all shapes\, sizes and ages. You can boulder from any age and over 70s climb for free at all TCA centres. The centre is fully accessible with free on-site parking for disabled customers. The sport\, which featured in the recent summer Olympics for the first time\, has proven benefits to both physical and mental health. Providing active movement\, from energetic overhangs at height to balanced slab traverses only centimetres off a mat. It helps participants to improve confidence and focus. \nThe Climbing Academy \nTCA opened its first centre in Bristol in 2008. The Arc is TCA’s 3rd centre in the south west of England and 5th centre in total\, with 2 in Glasgow. \nChippenham Borough Lands Charity \nChippenham Borough Lands Charity is a grant giving organisation that supports local residents in welfare\, education\, arts and community projects. DESCRIPTION:Our Try Climbing fun day is a perfect opportunity to have a go at rock climbing\, play games\, find out about climbing and meet the team behind Chippenham’s new activity centre. \nEvent details \n\n9.30am – 4.00pm on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd August 2021* at Westmead Playing Field\, off Westmead Lane\, Chippenham\, SN15 3HZ\nMeet staff from The Climbing Academy who will be running The Arc. They will be on hand to provide information about climbing and their other centres\, share special offers and to play games with attendees.\nStaff and trustees from Chippenham Borough Lands Charity will be able to provide you with further information about the Westmead Activity Centre\, the ‘Borough Lands’ and our grant giving to Chippenham residents.\nGet a taste of this exhilarating lifetime sport on a mobile self-belaying climbing wall provided by Wiltshire Outdoor Learning Team (WOLT).\nOpen to over 5-year olds and suitable for all ages (please note to fit the harnesses you need to be under 18 stone).\n£1 to climb each wall with 4 walls to climb in total.\nThe walls can have 4 people climbing at any one time and use automatic belays. The auto belay system ensures each climber descends steadily and safely at all times.\nThere are different climbing challenges across the 4 climbing routes making it perfect for complete beginners to experienced climbers. The WOLT team will be available to provide support and assistance to every climber.\nNo pre-booking required.\nWhile climbing the Mobile Climbing Wall we recommend wearing casual clothes and sensible shoes.\nLight refreshments will be on offer from Just on the Hoof\, including barista coffee\, milkshakes and homemade cake.\n\n \n*Please note – If it looks like there will be heavy rain or strong winds over the few days from the 20th-22nd August the event will be postponed.
