SUMMARY:Exhibition: Spotlight On 4 - Modern and Contemporary Art from the Collection of Chippenham Museum
DESCRIPTION:Open Monday – Saturday\, 10am – 4pm\, until 8 March. \nThis exhibition is the fourth in Chippenham Museum’s Spotlight series dedicated to its growing Modern and Contemporary Art Collection. \nThe project began in 2019 with the desire to celebrate the rich artistic history of this part of North Wiltshire. As a permanent collection\, it acts as a source of inspiration\, education and enjoyment for all. \nAt the heart of the Modern and Contemporary Art Collection are works that acknowledge the legacy of the Bath Academy of Art in Corsham\, a pioneering residential art school that counted some of the biggest names in modern and contemporary art amongst its teachers and students. \nNorth Wiltshire’s creativity proudly extends beyond the Academy\, and the collection records and celebrates the many contemporary artists who continue to live and work in this area today. \nThe exhibition featured work by the following artists:\nKay Le Seelleur Ara\, Kenneth Armitage\, Guy Bigland\, Alma Boyes\, Susie Brooks\, John Chilver\, Dominic Clare\, Andrew Cross\, William Crozier\, Anna Currey\, Simone Dawood\, Stephen Ellis\, Alex Faulkner\, Selina Fischer\, Astrid Furnival\, John Furnival\, Katherine Gili\, Patrick Haines\, Keith Harrison\, Verity James\, Richard Kennedy\, David King\, Julia Manning\, Michael Stubbs\, Marianne Fox-Ockinga\, Ione Parkin\, Tim Parry-Williams\, Michael Pennie\, Jackie Pope\, Terry Pope\, Paul Rudall\, James Scott\, Robert Scott\, William Scott\, Jack Shirreff\, Alice Sielle\, Hugh Hamshaw Thomas\, Julia Vezza\, Helen Wilks\, and Alistair Young. \nFurther details about the artworks can also be found in the accompanying catalogue available in the museum shop.

SUMMARY:Beginners Art workshops
DESCRIPTION:Uniquely designed and delivered 6 x 6 week courses for beginners.\nTaught by local artist and designer Charlie who has over 25 years experience teaching art. \nTuesdays at 9.30am – 11.30am \nTerm 1 – Still life (drawing) – Sept 17th – October 22nd \nTerm 2 – Objects in interiors (drawing\, painting) – November 5th – December 10th \nTerm 3 – Portrait (painting)- January 7th – Feb 11th \nTerm 4 – Interiors (drawing)- Feb 26th – April 2nd \nTerm 5 – Landscape (painting) – April 23rd – June 4th \nTerm 6 – Still life revisited (collage\, mixed media) – June 11th – July 16th \nIn both beginners and improvers\, the sessions we will follow the classic method for learning to draw and paint. It is easy to learn to draw by copying the example of a tutor leading the group\, but this tends to produce a ‘house style’ where everyone ends up drawing in the same way. Your drawing style is as unique to you as your handwriting (if school hasn’t obliterated it) – here you will learn to enhance your own drawing style\, not replace it with ours. \n(Please note: all Improvers courses begin with drawing\, and include a talk about relevant art movements and practitioners) \nPrice includes all materials and coffee and biscuits (donations taken to help with refreshments) \nThank you – we look forward to meeting you soon

SUMMARY:Life Drawing - evenings
DESCRIPTION:‘My favourite time of the week’ \nA chance to indulge\, draw and to practice some essential drawing skills in a beautiful environment\, guided by someone with over 25 years teaching experience. You’ll use a diverse range of styles and techniques that stretch you and keep you motivated to improve. \nAll while enjoying fresh coffee and meeting some other lovely local artists. You can work at your own pace and be left alone to draw if this is how you prefer to learn. We look forward to meeting you. \nTuesdays 7pm-9pm (Also on Wednesdays 9:30am-11:30am) \nTerm 1: Sept 17th – October 22nd 2024 \nTerm 2: November 5th – December 10th 2024 \nTerm 3: January 7th – Feb 11th 2025 \nTerm 4: Feb 26th – April 2nd 2025 \nTerm 5: April 23rd – June 4th 2025 \nTerm 6: June 11th – July 16th 2025 – PLEASE NOTE – THIS TERM IS A DRAWING TERM – NOT LIFE DRAWING ONE \nLife Drawing is challenging and rewarding\, but like drawing anything else\, it takes practice and patience. \nThe best way to encourage practice is to vary the media and techniques available; to make sure this is feasible\, we provide materials for free. This also allows more confidence as using expensive personal materials tends to inhibit experimentation. \nYou are\, of course\, welcome to bring your own materials and follow your own path. \nWeeks 3 and 6 are a chance to work from one long pose with any material/technique you choose; the other weeks begin with warm-ups to help you prepare\, normally followed by one or two poses following a theme. Sometimes the session is devoted to a worksheet-style drawing\, using many poses on one sheet in different materials. These are a great opportunity to gain confidence in composition\, materials and mark-making. \n£105 for 6 x 2 hour session term or £20 cash drop-in option (just for our life drawing sessions)\nhttps://buy.stripe.com/fZe4h50NC3LFg9icN2 \nWe look forward to meeting you soon!
