SUMMARY:The Grief Opera\, Love Goes On
DESCRIPTION:The Grief Opera\, Love Goes On is an original work of loss and love in song. \nLosing his son\, Nigel Linacre wrote poetry then combined with musician Vladimir Miller\, to bring grief to life. From Nigel’s last conversations with his son\, George\, via shock and pain\, and a return to love. Along this grief journey\, we see the father broken\, and yet ultimately remade. \nReflecting varied mental states\, the music is infused with a range of musical styles. Vladimir Miller is a gifted jazz composer. The music reflects the libretto\, and is also a counterpoint\, lightening the darkness. \nThe music is informed by the late George Linacre\, a composer of bass rhythms and more\, with the Eschar band. George’s riffs provide the beat for key songs. \nVladimir and Nigel are joined on stage by soprano Rebecca Snell and tenor Gavin Macrae. David Shepard on clarinet\, Meg Moss on violin\, Nigel Shires on double bass\, and Susan Norton on cello. Tom Linacre adds his voice.

SUMMARY:Movement for the Mind Chippenham group
DESCRIPTION:The Movement for the Mind group in Chippenham meets fortnightly on Tuesdays. \nThe group offers people living with dementia and a family carer the chance to take part in gentle exercise to music in a supportive and friendly group setting. \nSessions start with a warm-up before moving on to the main activity. Everyone is encouraged to do as much or little as they feel able to and you do not have to be ‘super-fit’ to take part. People with restricted mobility and wheelchair users are welcome. The exercise lasts for about an hour and at the end of the session refreshments are served during a social half hour before the group closes. \nTo come along or find out more please fill in the enquiry form on the Alzheimers Support website. \nVisit our weekly events page to find other local events and check if there are any changes.

DESCRIPTION:A walking\, watching\, writing\, short poetry experience! \nA “ginko” is a traditional activity in Japan\, and is the term for going on a walk\, in a group\, specifically to write poetry. \nCome and write short poems with us\, on a walk along the Chippenham Avon and its environs. There’ll be plenty of time to stop\, stare\, and take notes along a maximum of 2.5 miles distance. We’ll then sit down outside (under outside cover according to weather) to finish three-line Japanese-style “haiku”\, or other short poems. A hot or cold drink will be included in the ticket price. At all points there will be plenty of one-to-one guidance\, from published poets and experienced tutors Alan Summers and Karen Hoy of Call of the Page. \nSeasons are important in Japanese poetry. We will be leading a summer\, autumn\, winter\, and spring walking writing workshop. You can book for the first one\, a summer ginko\, below. Anticipate dragonflies\, swans\, lily pads\, and willow trees. \nDate: Saturday August 13th 2022\nTime: 10 am to 1 pm \nWe start and end at Chippenham Town Bridge (less than 5 minutes walk from Chippenham station\, and car parks). The bridge postcode is SN15 1EX. \nMaximum group size: 10\nTickets: £38 full price\, including a hot or cold drink. DESCRIPTION:Do you want to find time to relax? Do you love being in nature? Do you want to spend a day of relaxing and connective activities that nourish your soul? \nIf so\, then come along and join in one of our 4 Woodland Wellbeing Retreat Days\, starting on 26th June 2021. Other dates are 24th July\, 14th August and 25th September 2021. \nThese events provide a wonderful opportunity for people to have some time away for themselves\, connecting with nature\, with themselves and with like-minded people. The days comprise of a mix of meditations\, mindfulness practices\, shamanic journeying\, chakra balancing and energy alignment\, sound therapy and healing plus more. At the end of the day people will feel relaxed\, recharged and replenished. The groups are being facilitated by two qualified and professional therapists: Dawn is a psychotherapeutic counsellor and Sara is an intuitive healer. \nThe mornings will be held in the Hayloft\, followed by lunch and “me & just being time” before heading up to the private woodland for the afternoon. The venue is Highway Hill\, just outside of Calne\, Wiltshire which is set in 100 acres of private woodland in an area of outstanding natural beauty.
