DESCRIPTION:We’re back! \nWe’ve moved to St Pauls Church Hall\, Malmesbury Rd Chippenham \nWednesdays 5.30pm – 7pm in 10 week block \nFor 13-17yrs: \nFollowing on from our last brilliant year of designing for the Mayors Ball\, and creating a beautiful Colourwall for Chippenham Library\, we’re ready to go again and create more original art work to adorn our lovely town. DESCRIPTION:For the fourth year running\, come and experience the banks of the River Avon spectacularly lit up\, bringing some wonderful Christmas cheer into the heart of Chippenham. Situated within it’s usual spot of The Island in Monkton Park\, the event will once more feature a full roster of live\, festive entertainment. \nThe trail will be open Thursday 28th November – Sunday 1st December (inclusive). \nWith family friendly activities\, workshops and performances throughout the afternoon\, leading on to more adult based evening entertainment. Showcasing live Music and Comedy from some excellent musicians and comedians\, to Film Screenings\, Festive Workshops\, Artisan Market stall traders and even a live Brass Band playing Christmas Carols by Candlelight! \nThe event is funded by Chippenham Town Council in collaboration with Melt Productions and is a completely free experience for the local community and surrounding areas to enjoy. \nAll seating will be allocated on a first come\, first serve basis\, so please ensure you arrive nice and early if you are keen to watch any of the live shows and entertainment. \nThis years’ focal point will once again be the beautiful wooden Roundhouse\, a cosy\, heated wooden structure serving up delicious hot and cold drinks and tasty food from local vendors. DESCRIPTION: Great opportunity for neurodiverse young people \n A set of cassettes tapes from the 1980s which haven’t been accessible for many years have just been digitised as part of the Sounds of the South West project. \n Be the first to find out the content in these oral histories\, become skilled in the technical aspects of working with audio material\, get creative using the contents as a starting point\, with the chance to be mentored by experienced practitioners who will support you every step of the way. \n You’ll be able to create something special to share with others\, learn new skills\, have fun\, and maybe make some new friends. Come and enjoy spending time in a calm\, accepting and welcoming environment. \nJoin the sessions in person or online if you’d prefer. \nThe project will run every Thursday from 10.15am-3pm from 20th March to 22nd May. SUMMARY:The Other Sister Josephine - Community Song Writing Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Chippenham’s Sister Josephine Toomey didn’t found the convent pontoon team or rest her boots on the altar screen (like the one of Jake Thackray fame)\, but she did escape the Irish famine\, help found the town’s Catholic church\, teach children and have stones thrown at her. \nBring instruments\, voices and minds to help collaborate and create a new song exploring and celebrating her life. \nLed by musician Louise Jordan (lead musician on Maud’s Way project 2024) and local women’s history specialist Lucy Whitfield (Women Who Made Me project). Part of Chippenham Folk Festival 2025\, open to everyone. \nThemes: Migration. Displacement. Famine. Prejudice. Faith. Poverty.
