SUMMARY:Capturing Chippenham’s Wild Side
DESCRIPTION:This spring\, Chippenham Museum Photo Club will be heading out and about to explore the local wildlife. From riverscapes to wildflower meadows\, there is so much to see and enjoy in and around our town\, and the group will be busy on their club nights capturing the wild and wonderful with their cameras. \nLed by experienced photographer Steve Jones from The Little Photo Company\, Photo Club will be running two special edition sessions. Would you like to join in? \nSession 1: Wednesday 8 April\, 2pm – 3.30pm\nThe group will be heading to Westmead Open Space\, a wonderful wildlife hotspot. We will spend an afternoon exploring this beautiful riverside green\, space managed by Chippenham Borough Lands Charity. \nSession 2: Wednesday 20 May\, 4.30pm – 5.30pm\nThe group will be exploring Vincients Wood\, a semi-natural broadleaved woodland\, managed by Wiltshire Wildlife Trust. \nAs well as developing practical camera skills\, we will investigate the areas and learn more about our local wildlife and natural environment. \nThese special one-off sessions are free and open to any young person aged 11-17. No photography experience is needed. All cameras are welcome\, including mobile phones\, and a club camera is available to borrow if required. \nYou will also have the opportunity to have your work celebrated in a public exhibition during Chippenham’s Eco Future Fest on Sunday 14 June. Eco Future Fest is a community festival celebrating our natural world and all things sustainable. The event will take place at Chippenham Town Hall from 11am to 4pm. \nPlaces are limited\, so booking via Eventbrite is essential.

DESCRIPTION:Wiltshire Women & Music: From the Archives to the Airwaves. Nancy Kerr and Lucy Whitfield in conversation. \nLucy Whitfield is a genealogist\, historian\, and author of the Extraordinary Ordinary Women of Wiltshire book series. Nancy Kerr is Co-Investigator on the AHRC project Music\, Heritage\, Place\, which is unlocking the musical collections within English County records.\nThey recently joined forces as part of the 10-part BBC Radio 3 series The Song Detectorists\, available on BBC Sounds and nominated for Best Documentary at the New York Radio Festival Awards. \nJoin these two researchers in conversation to hear how they have been bringing to life some of the songs & tunes\, cures\, recipes and other remnants of women’s lives found in our historical archives – with a special focus on Chippenham and Wiltshire.\nThis organic\, informal presentation aims to provoke thought\, invite your questions\, and perhaps even get you singing some local musical gems. \nNancy Kerr is one of England’s most celebrated contemporary folk artists and composers. Her songs are widely sung by other artists and choirs in the UK and abroad. She won BBC Radio 2 “Folk Singer of the Year “ in 2015. She has recorded and toured with James Fagan\, Eliza Carthy\, The Full English\, Simpson Cutting Kerr\, Tim van Eyken\, Sāwol\, Rob Harbron\, Melrose Quartet\, Luke Daniels\, The Magpie Arc and many other collaborations. She is highly regarded both as a fiddle player and a singer-songwriter\, but also has a deep love of traditional song. The daughter of songwriter Sandra Kerr and Northumbrian piper Ron Elliott\, Nancy also is a qualified music therapist and a folk academic\, former Professor at Leeds College of Music and currently Lecturer at the University of Newcastle. She’s co-investigator on the nationwide research project “Music\, Heritage\, Place” in partnership with Royal Holloway University\, uncovering hidden musical gems in the County Records archives.
