SUMMARY:Queen and Country - an exhibition at Chippenham Museum for the Jubilee
DESCRIPTION:This summer the country celebrates Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee as she becomes the first British monarch to spend 70 years on the throne. This year also marks the 380th anniversary of the start of the English Civil War. \nPitting the monarchy against parliament\, the civil war divided the entire country and ended with the execution of a king. To mark these anniversaries Chippenham Museum is holding a dual exhibition ‘Queen and Country’ from 14 May – 23 July. \nHighlights in the exhibition include rare examples of 17th century gloves. One pair on loan from Dents Museum in Warminster are believed to have been belonged to King Charles I. The second pair have recently been acquired by Chippenham Museum with support from the Museums Association Beecroft Bequest. They are thought to have been worn by a member of the Talbot family of Lacock. \nThe exhibition will tie in with the Chippenham Town Council’s wider Jubilee celebrations in June\, and the Civil War Re-enactment coming to Monkton Park 23-24 July. The exhibition will be joined by re-enactors from the English Civil War Society on Saturday 4 June. \nChippenham Museum\, a Chippenham Town Council facility\, is free to visit and openMonday to Saturday\, including Bank Holidays\, 10am to 4pm. Located in the Market Place\, the museum tells the story Chippenham from its prehistoric origins to the present day.

SUMMARY:Battle of Chippenham Re-enactment
DESCRIPTION:The English Civil War returns to Chippenham as the Town plays host to the English Civil War Society and the town is returned to the dramatic Summer of 1643 when the Civil War raged across Wiltshire and the West Country. \nEach afternoon there will be intense conflict as the Royalist and Roundhead Armies clash in Battle on Monkton Park with over 400 Pikemen\, Musketeers\, Gunners\, and Cavalry all taking part. This event\, inspired by a dramatic moment in Chippenham’s history will prove to be a massive weekend of Entertainment\, Excitement and Education by the English Civil War Society. \nAs in 1643\, Chippenham Village will also be occupied by Royalist soldiers from Sir Ralph Hopton’s army marching from the hard-fought battle at Lansdown Hill near Bath. Soldiers and Officers will be working at their Military Encampment while expecting a visit from their General Sir Ralph. A Regiment of Foote\, Cavalry on Horseback\, and Cannon will be taking part in further displays through the day for Visitors to see on Monkton Park. \nThere will be a large and thriving encampment and tented village on The Island\, Monkton Park\, where 17th Century trades and crafts will be demonstrated by the townsfolk and including a working printing press giving out the latest newssheets with tidings of the war and other news. Here the re-enactors will be happy to meet visitors\, explain their work and to share stories about Chippenham’s role in the English Civil War. \nCheck out the full timetable giving details of all the Displays through each day: –

DESCRIPTION:Neptune Aquatic’s small-group intensive swimming crash courses at Starfish Hydrotherapy Pool are suitable for children aged 3 years+ and are the perfect way to introduce your young child to a swimming lessons environment or build on skills learned in weekly lessons. We currently offer crash courses (with a maximum of 6 children in each class) for our Ducklings\, Turtles and Jellyfish stages (equivalent to Swim England Stages 1-4.) All courses are 5 days\, with children swimming every morning for 25 minutes. SUMMARY:An Avon Ginko
DESCRIPTION:A walking\, watching\, writing\, short poetry experience! \nA “ginko” is a traditional activity in Japan\, and is the term for going on a walk\, in a group\, specifically to write poetry. \nCome and write short poems with us\, on a walk along the Chippenham Avon and its environs. There’ll be plenty of time to stop\, stare\, and take notes along a maximum of 2.5 miles distance. We’ll then sit down outside (under outside cover according to weather) to finish three-line Japanese-style “haiku”\, or other short poems. A hot or cold drink will be included in the ticket price. At all points there will be plenty of one-to-one guidance\, from published poets and experienced tutors Alan Summers and Karen Hoy of Call of the Page. \nSeasons are important in Japanese poetry. We will be leading a summer\, autumn\, winter\, and spring walking writing workshop. You can book for the first one\, a summer ginko\, below. Anticipate dragonflies\, swans\, lily pads\, and willow trees. \nDate: Saturday August 13th 2022\nTime: 10 am to 1 pm \nWe start and end at Chippenham Town Bridge (less than 5 minutes walk from Chippenham station\, and car parks). The bridge postcode is SN15 1EX. \nMaximum group size: 10\nTickets: £38 full price\, including a hot or cold drink.
