DESCRIPTION:Open Monday – Saturday\, 10am – 4pm\, until 8 March. \nThis exhibition is the fourth in Chippenham Museum’s Spotlight series dedicated to its growing Modern and Contemporary Art Collection. \nThe project began in 2019 with the desire to celebrate the rich artistic history of this part of North Wiltshire. DESCRIPTION:‘The most fun I have all week – I haven’t laughed so much in ages’ \nAlternate Monday’s at the Cause Arts Centre 7-9pm \nImprovisation Workshops delivered by Laura. \nIf you’re interested but not sure what it is – just come and watch a session and have a cup of tea! \nCome and join a lovely bunch of local budding thespians\, who like to mess about\, play games\, take part in drama exercises and generally have fun while learning how to think on the spot\, make up scenes and not be restricted by the script. \nYou’ll explore scenes\, develop strong characters then improvise the content with some idea of the outcomes – Mike Leigh style. Some of our short form games are like ‘Who’s line is it anyway’ if you’re old enough to remember that! \nIf you have always wanted to try some drama\, but are not sure that you want to commit\, just pop in and do the bits that you want to\, or just come and watch a session. We’d love you to join us – and can guarantee that you’ll meet some brilliant and supportive people along the way. \n\nBasic introduction\, get to know each other\, ground rules for improv and how to let your brain avoid filtering (too much)\nIntroduction to creating characters to use in scenes – emphasis on the physical. Levels of performance style – 1-10\nFurther character development – using the voice to compliment the physical. Tone\, pitch\, accent. Introducing costume for characters.\nHow to respond to offers and add value to a scene. Can we develop a plot using the people that we have found?\nWhat do we need to do to become more believable? What clues can other actors give each other when in an improvised scene?\nFeedback – audience to watch. DESCRIPTION:‘A really friendly place to learn from experienced people’ \nUniquely designed and delivered 6 x 6 week courses for beginners. Taught by local artist and designer Charlie who has over 25 years experience teaching art. \nTuesdays at 12.30 – 2.30pm \nTerm 1 – Still life (drawing) – Sept 17th – October 22nd \nTerm 2 – Objects in interiors (drawing\, painting)- November 5th – December 10th \nTerm 3 – Portrait (painting)- January 7th – Feb 11th \nTerm 4 – Interiors (drawing)- Feb 26th – April 2nd \nTerm 5 – Landscape (painting) – April 23rd – June 4th \nTerm 6 – Still life revisited (collage\, mixed media) – June 11th – July 16th \nIn both beginners and improvers\, the sessions we will follow the classic method for learning to draw and paint. It is easy to learn to draw by copying the example of a tutor leading the group\, but this tends to produce a ‘house style’ where everyone ends up drawing in the same way. We have no auditions and we always welcome new members. DESCRIPTION:Monthly fundraiser event for Dorothy House Hospice. \nJanuary 2025\nWAVERLEY ALBUM LISTENING CLUB \nThe first 2025 WALC fund-raising event for Dorothy House Hospice\, will be held as usual at The Waverley\, Chippenham on Wednesday 22nd January\, starting at 7.30pm with the first stylus drop around 8pm. \nWe will start the year with a ‘prog rock’ flavour and will be listening to a record that was suggested and requested by a couple of people at the October 2024 WALC\, namely ‘A Trick Of The Tail’ from 1976 – the tricky first Genesis album released after Peter Gabriel left the band in 1974. \nAlongside this we will listen to ‘Mirror In Blue Light’ the excellent debut vinyl album by Bristol-based band Pocket Sun which was released in September 2024. Members of the band will be attending to talk about their music and will have merchandise available to buy.

DESCRIPTION:Open Monday – Saturday\, 10am – 4pm\, until 8 March. \nThis exhibition is the fourth in Chippenham Museum’s Spotlight series dedicated to its growing Modern and Contemporary Art Collection. \nThe project began in 2019 with the desire to celebrate the rich artistic history of this part of North Wiltshire. As a permanent collection\, it acts as a source of inspiration\, education and enjoyment for all. \nAt the heart of the Modern and Contemporary Art Collection are works that acknowledge the legacy of the Bath Academy of Art in Corsham\, a pioneering residential art school that counted some of the biggest names in modern and contemporary art amongst its teachers and students. \nNorth Wiltshire’s creativity proudly extends beyond the Academy\, and the collection records and celebrates the many contemporary artists who continue to live and work in this area today. \nThe exhibition featured work by the following artists:\nKay Le Seelleur Ara\, Kenneth Armitage\, Guy Bigland\, Alma Boyes\, Susie Brooks\, John Chilver\, Dominic Clare\, Andrew Cross\, William Crozier\, Anna Currey\, Simone Dawood\, Stephen Ellis\, Alex Faulkner\, Selina Fischer\, Astrid Furnival\, John Furnival\, Katherine Gili\, Patrick Haines\, Keith Harrison\, Verity James\, Richard Kennedy\, David King\, Julia Manning\, Michael Stubbs\, Marianne Fox-Ockinga\, Ione Parkin\, Tim Parry-Williams\, Michael Pennie\, Jackie Pope\, Terry Pope\, Paul Rudall\, James Scott\, Robert Scott\, William Scott\, Jack Shirreff\, Alice Sielle\, Hugh Hamshaw Thomas\, Julia Vezza\, Helen Wilks\, and Alistair Young. \nFurther details about the artworks can also be found in the accompanying catalogue available in the museum shop.
