DESCRIPTION:I’m happy to announce the next two static sessions of History Portal Club\, planned for September. \nHistory Portal Club is friendly regular meet-up for curious locals who love stories from the past\, hidden landmarks\, and great company.\nIt’s a great way to explore the local area’s past together – no lectures\, no stuffy rooms\, just walking\, talking\, pub chats\, and stories you won’t find in the guidebooks. \nOn Tuesday 16 September we’ll be delving into all things Awdry – Just Who Were The Awdrys Anyway? – looking at various members of the prominent 19th & 20th century family whose name peppers the town. \nTogether we’ll explore the characters in one of Chippenham’s best known families.\nWho were they?\nWhat did they do?\nWhy are they so important to the town? \nThis fun club session will discuss and explore a few key members of the Awdry family from the 19th and early 20th centuries\, and how they relate to Chippenham past and present. \nThere’s more information on both the sessions here – www.lucywhitfieldhistorian.co.uk/history-club – and on how History Portal Club works. \nWe’re a friendly and very welcoming group. DESCRIPTION:‘My favourite time of the week’ \nA chance to indulge\, draw and to practice some essential drawing skills in a beautiful environment\, guided by someone with over 25 years teaching experience. You’ll use a diverse range of styles and techniques that stretch you and keep you motivated to improve. \nAll while enjoying fresh coffee and meeting some other lovely local artists. \nLife Drawing is challenging and rewarding\, but like drawing anything else\, it takes practice and patience. \nThe best way to encourage practice is to vary the media and techniques available; to make sure this is feasible\, we provide materials (donations welcome) This also allows more confidence as using expensive personal materials tends to inhibit experimentation. \nSometimes the session is devoted to a worksheet-style drawing\, using many poses on one sheet in different materials. These are a great opportunity to gain confidence in composition\, materials and mark-making. \n£105 for 6 x 2 hour session term or £20 cash drop-in option (just for our life drawing sessions) \nWe look forward to meeting you soon.

From hot barista-style drinks to sandwiches\, quiches and cakes\, you’ll find something for everyone to enjoy. Learn about our fascinating history and find out more about our namesake Joseph Neeld\, and the building’s architecture. \nDelve into the secret corners of the Neeld and Town Hall to discover behind-the-scenes areas such as the tech booth\, backstage and Mayor’s Parlour. Our free guided tour will tell you more about the fascinating history of our buildings\, their architect James Thomson\, and our namesake and benefactor\, Joseph Neeld. \nThe Neeld has played several different roles in the heart of the Chippenham community\, including a Cheese Market and a WWI Hospital. Following a refurbishment project in 2015\, the Neeld is a thriving Community and Arts Centre with an exciting programme of professional shows and local groups’ activities. The Town Hall was built in the Neoclassical style and opened in 1834. The building remains the civic heart of the town and the home of Chippenham Town Council. \nTours will take place at 10am and 12pm (duration approx. 45 minutes). DESCRIPTION:‘My favourite time of the week’ \nA chance to indulge\, draw and to practice some essential drawing skills in a beautiful environment\, guided by someone with over 25 years teaching experience. You’ll use a diverse range of styles and techniques that stretch you and keep you motivated to improve. \nAll while enjoying fresh coffee and meeting some other lovely local artists. \nLife Drawing is challenging and rewarding\, but like drawing anything else\, it takes practice and patience. \nThe best way to encourage practice is to vary the media and techniques available; to make sure this is feasible\, we provide materials (donations welcome) This also allows more confidence as using expensive personal materials tends to inhibit experimentation. \nSometimes the session is devoted to a worksheet-style drawing\, using many poses on one sheet in different materials. DESCRIPTION:Allsorts Community Choir meets Tuesday 7.30pm at Sheldon Road Methodist Church\, Chippenham.\nAll sorts of styles from swing to gospel\, to folk and pop with a generous helping of everything in between. All sorts of people from 18-108 welcome! \nFirst two sessions FREE\, £3 per session once joined (paid termly). Auditions\, music reading\, & experience NOT necessary!
