DESCRIPTION:Trio Paradis (Jacquelyn Bevan – piano\, Ruth O’Shea – violin & Linda Stocks – cello) play a Café Concert at St Andrew’s Church on the first Tuesday of each month at 11am: informal music events with a pop-up café from c10.30 where you can meet friends and make new ones over tea/coffee and home-made cakes. \nSeptember’s music is inspired by trees and forests\, with music by Sibelius (Birch and Fir trees\, among others)\, Massenet (Lime Trees) and a forest scene from a Rimsky-Korsakov opera. \nConcerts last c45m and entrance – or rather\, exit! – is by donation\, with a retiring collection. We have no auditions and we always welcome new members. This is an opportunity for you to explore some of the amazing documents in the Wiltshire and Swindon Archive collections in a friendly and informal setting. \nThe group meets every other month on a Saturday\, led by Community History Advisor Gianna Torchia. Each hour-long session will focus on an original document that will be explored and discussed to reveal the creative side of archives through the stories of people\, places or events. Gianna hopes to inspire members to get creative using information from the original documents. Out of 10?\nThis meet up is a talking and listen club for men aged 18 and over.\nThis group meets the 2nd Monday of each month – upstairs at The Waverley. \nWhat’s it about?\nA Talk & Listen group is a peer to peer talking group run by volunteers we call Captains.\nCaptains are trained to facilitate groups in communities across the UK. \nThese groups are held in person in a safe and quiet space so men can talk and listen using the Talk Club sharing model which starts with ‘How are you? Out of 10?’. This simple question helps men to put a number on how they feel\, (1 being rock bottom and 10 being on top of the world) then trying to explain why. \nDepending on the number of men attending\, sessions last a maximum of two hours.

SUMMARY:Chippenham Film Club- September 2025 Screening 'Bird'
DESCRIPTION:Chippenham Film Club was formed in 2022 to bring films to the town that would not normally be seen on the big screen in Chippenham. Screenings will be on the second Monday of each month at The Reel cinema in Chippenham – you do not need to be a club member to attend\, but if you pay the annual membership fee\, there is a 35% discount off entry to all Chippenham Film Club screenings. \nThe club is run by a small group of volunteers\, with stewarding provided by the Reel Cinema staff. The monthly screening films on the programme are all selected by the members\, and all are films which have not been shown locally or received wide exposure nationally. \nThis month’s film is ‘Bird’ (15 certificate) Bird is a 2024 drama film written and directed by Andrea Arnold and starring Nykiya Adams in her debut role\, alongside Barry Keoghan (Chernobyl\, Saltburn\, Banshees of Inisherin)\, and Franz Rogowski (Transit\, Passages\, Great Freedom\, Disco Boy). Bailey (Adams) lives with her brother Hunter and her father Bug (Keoghan)\, who raises them alone in a squat in northern Kent\, Bug doesn’t have much time to devote to them. Bailey meets an eccentric\, troubled guy called Bird (Rogowski) and while everything else in her life is alienating\, her friendship with Bird provides her with some degree of stability. \nAlthough Bird was largely overlooked by the main award ceremonies\, Arnold did receive BAFTA and Palme d’ Or nominations\, Adams also received a number of nominations for her incredible debut performance.

DESCRIPTION:Popular open days on a restored stretch of canal between near Chippenham are due to return this weekend.\nHundreds of people attended last year’s events at Pewsham Locks\, a flight of locks which once lifted narrowboats on their journey north along the Wilts & Berks Canal. \nVisitors can enjoy a pop-up café\, boat trips\, and tours of the building projects and wildflower meadow.\nThe first event takes place on Saturday 10th May and will be repeated on the second Saturday of each month until October. The café and tours open from 10am\, with boat trips available from 12.30pm\, before the event closes at around 3pm. \nThe open days are organised by the Melksham\, Chippenham & Calne branch of the Wilts & Berks Canal Trust. \nSpokesperson Bright Wright said: \nWe’re looking forward to welcoming lots of visitors and sharing the progress we’ve made in bringing this historic waterway back to life. People often enjoy walking or cycling along the towpath but this is a golden opportunity to learn so much more about the charity\, our local work and our plans for the future. \nWe’ll be offering guided tours of the dry dock and carpenter’s workshop\, which are due to be completed later this year\, as well as tours of the wildflower meadow and wildlife habitats. The boat rides are especially popular\, taking passengers to Double Bridge near Reybridge and back again. We also offer exclusive trips for community groups in the mornings. \nThese rides depend on the weather and the water levels though\, so we always advise people to check our social media for any late changes. Boats depart from the wharf at Pewsham Locks\, where the pop-up café offers plenty of tea\, coffee and cake\, and lots of seating beneath the trees – it’s a great location for a relaxing day out. \nThe site is just a short walk along a footpath from the edge of Pewsham. Directions are available at www.wbct.org.uk/mcc-events (please note there is no public parking at the locks). \nRefreshments and boat rides are available by cash donation or scanning a QR code.
