DESCRIPTION:‘A really friendly place to learn from experienced people’ \nUniquely designed and delivered 6 x 6 week courses for beginners. Taught by local artist and designer Charlie who has over 25 years experience teaching art. \nTuesdays at 12.30 – 2.30pm \nTerm 1 – Still life (drawing) – Sept 17th – October 22nd \nTerm 2 – Objects in interiors (drawing\, painting)- November 5th – December 10th \nTerm 3 – Portrait (painting)- January 7th – Feb 11th \nTerm 4 – Interiors (drawing)- Feb 26th – April 2nd \nTerm 5 – Landscape (painting) – April 23rd – June 4th \nTerm 6 – Still life revisited (collage\, mixed media) – June 11th – July 16th \nIn both beginners and improvers\, the sessions we will follow the classic method for learning to draw and paint. It is easy to learn to draw by copying the example of a tutor leading the group\, but this tends to produce a ‘house style’ where everyone ends up drawing in the same way. It’s all about having fun and singing in the afternoon! \nMatt runs 4 popular Good Afternoon Community Choirs every week and loves the fun of singing together and making amazing music during the afternoons.  Matt lives in Bath where he is well-known as Musical Director of the Bath Light Operatic Group\, you may well have attended one of their wonderful shows at the Bath Theatre Royal in years past.  All Good Afternoon Choir members enjoy singing Matt’s very special arrangements\, especially at the Big Sings when all the Good Afternoon Choirs join together to sing in one venue. \nA warm welcome awaits any new members\, there are NO auditions and everyone is welcome!  There is no charge for attending your first rehearsal.   Come alone or with a friend – either way Matt and the Choir will be pleased to meet you.  You will be joining over 1\,000 people singing at Good Afternoon Choirs around the South West and beyond! \nMembership forms are available to collect at every rehearsal.  The choir rehearsals are in 4 terms of 10 weeks and members pay £58 per term – this covers room and piano hire\, music\, admin and musician fees.  You do not need to join at the start of a term\, you can simply come along to any rehearsal and pick up a membership form should you wish to join the choir – your fee will then be worked out for the remainder of that term. \nIf you have any questions about the Choir please contact Tracey or Karin via email gac@grenvillemusic.co.uk or tel 01761 472468. \n

DESCRIPTION: Great opportunity for neurodiverse young people \n A set of cassettes tapes from the 1980s which haven’t been accessible for many years have just been digitised as part of the Sounds of the South West project. \n Be the first to find out the content in these oral histories\, become skilled in the technical aspects of working with audio material\, get creative using the contents as a starting point\, with the chance to be mentored by experienced practitioners who will support you every step of the way. \n You’ll be able to create something special to share with others\, learn new skills\, have fun\, and maybe make some new friends. Come and enjoy spending time in a calm\, accepting and welcoming environment. \nJoin the sessions in person or online if you’d prefer. \nThe project will run every Thursday from 10.15am-3pm from 20th March to 22nd May. DESCRIPTION:Popular open days on a restored stretch of canal between near Chippenham are due to return this weekend.\nHundreds of people attended last year’s events at Pewsham Locks\, a flight of locks which once lifted narrowboats on their journey north along the Wilts & Berks Canal. \nVisitors can enjoy a pop-up café\, boat trips\, and tours of the building projects and wildflower meadow.\nThe first event takes place on Saturday 10th May and will be repeated on the second Saturday of each month until October. The café and tours open from 10am\, with boat trips available from 12.30pm\, before the event closes at around 3pm. \nThe open days are organised by the Melksham\, Chippenham & Calne branch of the Wilts & Berks Canal Trust. \nSpokesperson Bright Wright said: \nWe’re looking forward to welcoming lots of visitors and sharing the progress we’ve made in bringing this historic waterway back to life. People often enjoy walking or cycling along the towpath but this is a golden opportunity to learn so much more about the charity\, our local work and our plans for the future. \nWe’ll be offering guided tours of the dry dock and carpenter’s workshop\, which are due to be completed later this year\, as well as tours of the wildflower meadow and wildlife habitats. The boat rides are especially popular\, taking passengers to Double Bridge near Reybridge and back again. We also offer exclusive trips for community groups in the mornings. \nThese rides depend on the weather and the water levels though\, so we always advise people to check our social media for any late changes. Boats depart from the wharf at Pewsham Locks\, where the pop-up café offers plenty of tea\, coffee and cake\, and lots of seating beneath the trees – it’s a great location for a relaxing day out. \nThe site is just a short walk along a footpath from the edge of Pewsham. DESCRIPTION:The REME Museum’s annual 1940s re-enactment and living history event\, Wartime Britain\, promises to be an amazing day out exploring the equipment\, military life and home front culture experienced by many during World War II. Every year we add something bigger and better\, with more re-enactment groups and exciting performances. \nThis year\, get ready to celebrate the 80th anniversary of VE Day in style\, featuring:1940s costume and decoration \n\nRe-enactors and living history groups telling the stories of those who lived\, served and fought in WW2\nWW2-era vehicles from the Museum’s Reserve Vehicle Collection\, private collectors and enthusiasts around the country\n‘Live’ demonstrations of WW2 equipment\, including firearms\, munitions and more (subject to groups attending and availability of equipment) – see the slideshow below for examples of previous years’ demonstrations\n1940s Swing and Big Band dance performances\nMusical performances with wartime era music\, creating a VE Day party atmosphere on our grounds!\nFull details including details of performers and re-enactors will be available on our website.
