SUMMARY:Friends of Chippenham Museum Heritage Cafe
DESCRIPTION:Friends of Chippenham Museum supports the museum by fundraising\, promoting activities and organising an enjoyable social programme for members. \nBeing a Friend gives you the opportunity to receive newsletters with special interest articles and news from the Museum\, attend monthly coffee afternoons called Heritage Café for socialising and special interest talks\, and take part in special activities such as local trips\, parties\, events\, etc. \nThe next Heritage Café will be held in the museum’s Education Room\, at 2pm\, on Friday 6 February. The speaker will be the museum’s Engagement Officer\, Elaine Davis\, who will be telling the members about the new series of creative writing workshops for young people currently underway\, which has been supported by the Friends of Chippenham Museum allowing these workshops to be free for those aged 16-18 developing their writing skills and eventually see their work in print. \nPart of a wider local project ‘Chippenham – Our History’\, the museum will be celebrating this year the 400th anniversary of the birth of local antiquarian and inventor of the biography\, John Aubrey. It is his mini-biographies\, ‘Brief Lives’\, that has inspired these young participants and will conclude with a special celebration of the work they produce\, including a printed publication. \nAnnual membership to become a Friend of Chippenham Museum is £5 per person\, renewed each July. DESCRIPTION:Calling all performers aged 13 and up (including adults) \nA NEW performance company for young people and adults. \nWe spent time in June 2025 exploring ideas and working together to see what sort of work we all wanted to create and this will now be followed by a 9 week rehearsal period from Saturday 27th September\, followed by an intensive rehearsal period in January 2026 finishing a performance on Feb 7th 2026 (Venue – TBC – as we’ll come up with that together). \nWhether you’re a seasoned actor or just starting out\, why not showcase your talent and connect with like-minded locals? It may be that you prefer to be backstage or help with the design and production. There’s no sheet music or lyrics sheets\, everything is taught by ear and we’ll have toys to keep the teeny ones busy while you enjoy some singing. Come as you are and take some time for you! \nIf you’d like to learn some songs that aren’t traditional nursery rhymes\, if you love singing but can’t get to a choir because you’d need to bring your little one(s)\, if you’d like to meet other mums\, if you’d just like to get out of the house and brighten up a February morning then this is the perfect session for you! \nThis free taster at Chippenham library will be around an hour long and will give you a really good flavour of what Singing Mamas is all about. Out of 10?\nThis meet up is a talking and listen club for men aged 18 and over.\nThis group meets the 2nd Monday of each month – upstairs at The Waverley. \nWhat’s it about?\nA Talk & Listen group is a peer to peer talking group run by volunteers we call Captains.\nCaptains are trained to facilitate groups in communities across the UK. \nThese groups are held in person in a safe and quiet space so men can talk and listen using the Talk Club sharing model which starts with ‘How are you? Out of 10?’. This simple question helps men to put a number on how they feel\, (1 being rock bottom and 10 being on top of the world) then trying to explain why. \nDepending on the number of men attending\, sessions last a maximum of two hours.

DESCRIPTION:Chippenham Film Club was formed in 2022 to bring films that would not normally be seen on the big screen in Chippenham. You do not need to be club member to attend but members get discounted tickets. \n‘Clara Sola’ is a Costa Rican 2021 drama film (age rating: 15) directed by Nathalie Álvarez Mesén\, and starring Wendy Chinchilla Araya in her debut role. \nClara\, a 40-year-old woman\, is believed to have a special connection with God\, as a “healer\,” she supports her family and a town in need of hope while finding solace in her bond with nature. After years of being controlled by her repressive mother\, Clara’s sexuality awakens when she becomes attracted to her niece’s new boyfriend. This newfound force leads her into unexplored territory\, allowing her to cross both physical and mystical boundaries. Empowered by self-discovery\, Clara gradually frees herself from her role as a “saint” and begins to heal herself. \nClara Sola was selected as the Costa Rican entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 94th Academy Awards.

It’s led by artist Fran Young and organised by our experienced community services coordinator Pam Ollis. \nProjects ranging from painting and drawing to collage\, printing\, crafts\, clay modelling and more. DESCRIPTION:Join us as we celebrate the 400th anniversary of the birth of local antiquarian and famous biographer\, John Aubrey. Open to young people aged 16-18\, these free workshops offer the chance to develop your writing skills and see your work in print. \nAubrey was an archaeologist\, scientist\, and historian who\, from a young age\, collected stories and local legends from people across Wiltshire. He used these to create a series of mini-biographies collectively known as Brief Lives. \nInspired by Aubrey’s work\, participants will use the museum’s collection of portraits\, taken by local photographers in the 1900s\, as creative prompts to write their own ‘brief life’ for these anonymous figures. \nAn experienced writer will lead the workshops\, helping young people develop their skills and explore new writing forms and genres\, including: \nPoetry and lyric writing\nDramatic monologues and short scripts\nShort stories and flash fiction\nThe project is supported by the Friends of Chippenham Museum and will conclude with a special celebration of the work produced\, including a printed publication. \nThese workshops are free\, but spaces are limited\, so booking is essential.
