It’ll be a fun hour of creativity and information that might just change your life\, if not\, it’ll certainly make your day more fun.\nAs part of the Teen Takeover weekend\, the fantastic Christian Foley will be hosting a Hip-hop poetry workshop at Chippenham Library. \nA writer\, rapper and a teacher – all at once\, Christian’s interactive freestyles and improvised performances have been lauded by stars like 50 Cent\, and the creator of the musical Hamilton\, as well as FIFA. Having gone viral multiple times\, he’s a regular on television and radio\, amassing over thirty million views worldwide. \nChristian is one of the few poets in the world selected to complete a ‘Spoken Word Education Programme’ and Teaching MA at Goldsmiths University\, an opportunity which was created to transform professional poets into specialised facilitators. On April 27th\, 2024\, Chippenham’s Teen Takeover Weekend we’re coming together to celebrate the power of music and support some talented young artists. \nAt the heart of Kandu Arts lies a deep appreciation for music and the power it holds. The benefits of participation cannot be understated. music can enhance the health and wellbeing of participants\, boosting mood\, cognition\, resilience\, expression and behaviour. \nKandu Arts\, Studio 19B\, stands as a vibrant Wiltshire Music Connect hub\, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities for music performance and recording. It is here that minds of all ages converge through various avenues such as after-school clubs\, daily alternative provision\, or individual projects to learn to play instruments\, refine their vocal skills\, compose original pieces or delve into the art of songwriting. Our studio is a safe space where participants can freely express themselves through sound and the creation of music and is used as a practice space for young aspiring bands and older musicians alike. \nThe Event\nTo celebrate the profound impact music has on our lives\, we’re excited to announce an exciting musical collaboration set to take place on April 27th\, 2024\, from 12pm-3pm. This eagerly anticipated event promises to be a vibrant celebration of creativity and talent. Taking place at the Rotary Hall on Station Hill\, Chippenham. This event has been coordinated from start to finish by exceptionally talented students from Chippenham College. These students are part of a Kandu Arts music mentoring programme and also members of bands who are regularly rehearsing/recording in Kandu’s studio. They have poured their passion and creativity into curating an unforgettable afternoon that showcases the best of our young local music scene. \nAbout The Bands\nThe event will include a lineup of young local musicians\, who will take centre stage to share their mesmerising melodies and captivating stories with the audience. One of the bands that will be performing\, ‘Quiet!’\, came together through Kandu Art’s Social Hub Of Positivity (S.H.O.P) two years ago at age fifteen. Kandu offered them a place to rehearse and since then\, they have performed at the Minety Festival\, as well as Kandu’s annual community festival\, Unlock Reset\, which has been a massive success three years running.\nJoining the lineup is another remarkable band\, The Vivas\, who since joining the Kandu Arts Music mentoring programme\, will be playing on the Kandu Stage at Minety Festival and Unlock Reset – Also playing Aimee Jasmine and Kula Chakula and a few surprises. Undoubtedly bands and individuals on the brink of greatness.

Come along for an amazing weekend exploring the equipment\, military life and home front culture experienced by many during World War II. \nFeaturing: \n\nWW2-era vehicles from the Museum’s Reserve Collection and from private collectors and enthusiasts around the country;\nRe-enactment/living history groups and individuals re-telling the history and stories of those who lived through World War II;\nPeriod costume;\nLive demonstrations of WW2 equipment\, including firearms;\nPerformances from the Lyneham Military Wives Choir\n\nRefreshments will be available to purchase from Crown’s Café\, which will only be open to visitors with a ticket to the event. Free parking\, including Blue Badge spaces on a first-come-first-served basis. We ask that you please reserve a parking space if you need one in advance! DESCRIPTION:When The Fureys make their eagerly awaited return to the Neeld\, they will treat their audience to one of popular music’s richest legacies. \nThey are one of Ireland’s all-time most acclaimed and influential middle of the road\, folk and traditional bands. Fureys’ classics like I Will Love You\, When You Were Sweet 16\, Red Rose Café\, Leaving Nancy\, The Old Man\, From Clare to Here and The Green Fields of France have become the soundtrack to the lives of fans all over the world. \nThe Furey brothers were still trying to make it as folk singers in the late Sixties when Eddie Furey shared flats in Scotland with then fellow folk stars-in-waiting\, Billy Connolly and Gerry Rafferty (of Baker Street fame). \nEddie and George Furey are particularly proud of their UK chart success with songs such as I Will Love You and When You Were Sweet Sixteen\, which in turn helped bring Irish folk and traditional music to a completely new audience. The band made their Top of the Pops debut in 1981. \nEddie Furey recalls how “many musicians have told us we influenced them after hearing a record from their parents’ or grandparents’ collection”. Dave Stewart of The Eurythmics has credited Eddie with teaching him his first chords on the guitar. Eddie would return the compliment by joining Dave on stage in Paris for a jam during the latter’s wedding to Bananarama’s Siobhan Fahey.

DESCRIPTION:Chippenham Flower Club is honoured to host Michael Bowyer\, MBE as he performs his floral demonstration ‘Twixt Spring and Summer’. \nMichael is a NAFAS demonstrator\, judge and president of the South West Area of NAFAS. He is known as the David Beckham of Flower Arranging\, admired and respected for his floral art. He supervises the arrangements at Salisbury Cathedral and was in charge of two pedestal at Westminster Abbey for the funeral of our late Queen. \nMichael is joining us on 13th May at Sheldon School Hall. This promises to be an enjoyable evening\, apart from Michael’s demonstration we have our popular Plant Stall\, Bring and Buy stall and our Sales Stall\, as well as refreshments.
