DESCRIPTION:Returning to school after the summer holidays can be a daunting prospect for many.\nIt can cause stress\, anxiety and unease. \nPerhaps your child is moving up to a secondary school.\nPerhaps they are moving to a different school.\nPerhaps your child is sensitive to change and finds it difficult to deal with.\nPerhaps their experience of being at school is not always enjoyable.\nPerhaps they just need a space in which they can re-charge and re-set their mind for the new school year. \nI understand how stressful and demanding the transition can be both for children and parents. \nThis summer I’d like to help you make the experience a bit easier\, smoother and less stressful. \nThat’s why we’ve decided to hold a mindfulness and meditation workshop. \nWhat would it be like to spend 2 hours in a space in which your child can totally relax\, escape their worries\, be free of anxiety and stress ? \nWhat would it be like for you and your child to spend 2 hours exploring your ability to find peace through fun mindful activities and games\, through listening to soothing sounds and a guided visualisation? \nWhat would it be like to learn techniques which can help you and your children ease their anxiety helping them manage their return to school better? \nWhat would it feel like to be with your child\, be truly present with them and create genuine connection for you so that you can support them during the transition back to school and beyond? \nOur mindfulness and meditation workshop for parents and children offers just that. \nI’m Katerina\, founder of MindCraft\, and at the very end of the summer holidays I bring you a unique workshop for children and their parents. My workshop is designed to support children\, young teens and their parents who: \n– find the transition back to school after the summer holidays a challenge\n– suffer from anxiety\, stress or overwhelm\nare sensitive to change. New environments and people can cause anxiety and distress\nare curious about mindfulness and meditation\n– would like to learn tools and techniques to ease anxiety and stress\n-look for a safe\, supportive and non-judgemental space\n– need to unwind and relax after a busy summer\n– struggle with self-confidence \nTickets are £10 per child and £20 per adult. SUMMARY:Peter Potworowski: West Country Exile
DESCRIPTION:Born in Poland in 1898\, Peter Potworowski was part of the Parisian Artistic community of the 1920s that included the likes of Picasso\, Bonnard\, and Léger. After the Nazi-occupation of his home-land Potworowski settled in England in 1943\, beginning a long association with the West Country. \nThe majority of works in this selling exhibition are from his time living in Cornwall\, Devon\, Somerset and Wiltshire. In 1949 he joined the teaching staff at the Bath Academy of Art\, Corsham\, where his own work as an artist matured in contact with the English landscape. \nChippenham Museum\, a Chippenham Town Council facility\, is free entry\, open Monday-Saturday 10am-4pm\, including bank holidays.

DESCRIPTION:It’s Carbon Measuring week from 16th -24th September at the Tiny Forest\, Monkton Park and we need your help! \nAny time over the week go down to the Tiny Forest and measure the trees with the silver circle numbers and upload the information at https://tinyforest.earthwatch.org.uk/carbon-week or come along on Saturday 16th September between 14:00-15:30\, bring a tape measure and smart phone if you have them\, if not paper copies and tape measures will be available. \nWe also need people to clear the surrounding weeds so we can get to the trees. \nHope to see you there\, last year was a great success and it will be good to get the comparison data\, the trees are growing really well as you can see in the above photo. \n

DESCRIPTION:In the early decades of the 15th century\, the small city state of Florence was the birthplace of an astonishing\, bloodless\, revolution\, now known as the renaissance.\nMany of its painters\, composers\, musicians\, architects\, thinkers\, philosophers and patrons knew and influenced each other. None more so than the sculptor\, Donatello\, (above) who created new worlds out of stone\, suffusing it with drama\, humanity and tenderness.\nIn the wake of a major exhibition at the V and A\, the lecture looks at how he\, in harness with many other renaissance figures who are part of his journey\, changed the face of European culture for ever.\nArts Society Lecturer: Sarah Dunant.\nSarah is a novelist\, broadcaster and critic. Sarah read history at Cambridge\, then worked for many years as a cultural journalist in radio and television on such programmes as Kaleidoscope (BBC Radio 4)\, The Late Show (BBC 2)\, and Night Waves/Free Thinking (BBC Radio 3). She is a regular contributor to BBC Radio 4’s A Point of View and these talks\, alongside her series on history for Radio 4\, When Greeks Flew Kites are available on podcast or BBC sounds. \nThis lecture is part of Kington Langley’s Monthly Lecture Series and members will receive notification as a matter of course.
