Out of 10?\nThis meet up is a talking and listen club for men aged 18 and over.\nThis group meets the 2nd Monday of each month – upstairs at The Waverley. \nWhat’s it about?\nA Talk & Listen group is a peer to peer talking group run by volunteers we call Captains.\nCaptains are trained to facilitate groups in communities across the UK. \nThese groups are held in person in a safe and quiet space so men can talk and listen using the Talk Club sharing model which starts with ‘How are you? Out of 10?’. This simple question helps men to put a number on how they feel\, (1 being rock bottom and 10 being on top of the world) then trying to explain why. \nDepending on the number of men attending\, sessions last a maximum of two hours.

SUMMARY:Chippenham Film Club- September 2025 Screening 'Bird'
DESCRIPTION:Chippenham Film Club was formed in 2022 to bring films to the town that would not normally be seen on the big screen in Chippenham. Screenings will be on the second Monday of each month at The Reel cinema in Chippenham – you do not need to be a club member to attend\, but if you pay the annual membership fee\, there is a 35% discount off entry to all Chippenham Film Club screenings. \nThe club is run by a small group of volunteers\, with stewarding provided by the Reel Cinema staff. The monthly screening films on the programme are all selected by the members\, and all are films which have not been shown locally or received wide exposure nationally. \nThis month’s film is ‘Bird’ (15 certificate) Bird is a 2024 drama film written and directed by Andrea Arnold and starring Nykiya Adams in her debut role\, alongside Barry Keoghan (Chernobyl\, Saltburn\, Banshees of Inisherin)\, and Franz Rogowski (Transit\, Passages\, Great Freedom\, Disco Boy). Bailey (Adams) lives with her brother Hunter and her father Bug (Keoghan)\, who raises them alone in a squat in northern Kent\, Bug doesn’t have much time to devote to them. Bailey meets an eccentric\, troubled guy called Bird (Rogowski) and while everything else in her life is alienating\, her friendship with Bird provides her with some degree of stability. \nAlthough Bird was largely overlooked by the main award ceremonies\, Arnold did receive BAFTA and Palme d’ Or nominations\, Adams also received a number of nominations for her incredible debut performance.

DESCRIPTION:Popular open days on a restored stretch of canal between near Chippenham are due to return this weekend.\nHundreds of people attended last year’s events at Pewsham Locks\, a flight of locks which once lifted narrowboats on their journey north along the Wilts & Berks Canal. \nVisitors can enjoy a pop-up café\, boat trips\, and tours of the building projects and wildflower meadow.\nThe first event takes place on Saturday 10th May and will be repeated on the second Saturday of each month until October. The café and tours open from 10am\, with boat trips available from 12.30pm\, before the event closes at around 3pm. \nThe open days are organised by the Melksham\, Chippenham & Calne branch of the Wilts & Berks Canal Trust. \nSpokesperson Bright Wright said: \nWe’re looking forward to welcoming lots of visitors and sharing the progress we’ve made in bringing this historic waterway back to life. People often enjoy walking or cycling along the towpath but this is a golden opportunity to learn so much more about the charity\, our local work and our plans for the future. \nWe’ll be offering guided tours of the dry dock and carpenter’s workshop\, which are due to be completed later this year\, as well as tours of the wildflower meadow and wildlife habitats. The boat rides are especially popular\, taking passengers to Double Bridge near Reybridge and back again. We also offer exclusive trips for community groups in the mornings. \nThese rides depend on the weather and the water levels though\, so we always advise people to check our social media for any late changes. Boats depart from the wharf at Pewsham Locks\, where the pop-up café offers plenty of tea\, coffee and cake\, and lots of seating beneath the trees – it’s a great location for a relaxing day out. \nThe site is just a short walk along a footpath from the edge of Pewsham. DESCRIPTION:I’m happy to announce the next two static sessions of History Portal Club\, planned for September. \nHistory Portal Club is friendly regular meet-up for curious locals who love stories from the past\, hidden landmarks\, and great company.\nIt’s a great way to explore the local area’s past together – no lectures\, no stuffy rooms\, just walking\, talking\, pub chats\, and stories you won’t find in the guidebooks. \nOn Tuesday 16 September we’ll be delving into all things Awdry – Just Who Were The Awdrys Anyway? – looking at various members of the prominent 19th & 20th century family whose name peppers the town. \nTogether we’ll explore the characters in one of Chippenham’s best known families.\nWho were they?\nWhat did they do?\nWhy are they so important to the town? \nThis fun club session will discuss and explore a few key members of the Awdry family from the 19th and early 20th centuries\, and how they relate to Chippenham past and present. \nThere’s more information on both the sessions here – www.lucywhitfieldhistorian.co.uk/history-club – and on how History Portal Club works. \nWe’re a friendly and very welcoming group. DESCRIPTION:‘My favourite time of the week’ \nA chance to indulge\, draw and to practice some essential drawing skills in a beautiful environment\, guided by someone with over 25 years teaching experience. You’ll use a diverse range of styles and techniques that stretch you and keep you motivated to improve. \nAll while enjoying fresh coffee and meeting some other lovely local artists. \nLife Drawing is challenging and rewarding\, but like drawing anything else\, it takes practice and patience. \nThe best way to encourage practice is to vary the media and techniques available; to make sure this is feasible\, we provide materials (donations welcome) This also allows more confidence as using expensive personal materials tends to inhibit experimentation. \nSometimes the session is devoted to a worksheet-style drawing\, using many poses on one sheet in different materials. These are a great opportunity to gain confidence in composition\, materials and mark-making. \n£105 for 6 x 2 hour session term or £20 cash drop-in option (just for our life drawing sessions) \nWe look forward to meeting you soon.
