DESCRIPTION:‘A really friendly place to learn from experienced people’ \nUniquely designed and delivered 6 x 6 week courses for beginners. Taught by local artist and designer Charlie who has over 25 years experience teaching art. \nTuesdays at 12.30 – 2.30pm \nTerm 1 – Still life (drawing) – Sept 17th – October 22nd \nTerm 2 – Objects in interiors (drawing\, painting)- November 5th – December 10th \nTerm 3 – Portrait (painting)- January 7th – Feb 11th \nTerm 4 – Interiors (drawing)- Feb 26th – April 2nd \nTerm 5 – Landscape (painting) – April 23rd – June 4th \nTerm 6 – Still life revisited (collage\, mixed media) – June 11th – July 16th \nIn both beginners and improvers\, the sessions we will follow the classic method for learning to draw and paint. It is easy to learn to draw by copying the example of a tutor leading the group\, but this tends to produce a ‘house style’ where everyone ends up drawing in the same way. Your drawing style is as unique to you as your handwriting (if school hasn’t obliterated it) – here you will learn to enhance your own drawing style\, not replace it with ours. \nPlease note: all courses begin with drawing\, and include a talk about relevant art movements and practitioners. \nPrice includes all materials and coffee and biscuits (donations taken to help with refreshments) \nThank you – we look forward to meeting you soon

DESCRIPTION:Love to sing? Want to make friends? Come along to Pewsham Community Centre Tuesdays between 1.30-3.30pm. Taken by the wonderful Matt Finch. It’s all about having fun and singing in the afternoon! \nMatt runs 4 popular Good Afternoon Community Choirs every week and loves the fun of singing together and making amazing music during the afternoons.  Matt lives in Bath where he is well-known as Musical Director of the Bath Light Operatic Group\, you may well have attended one of their wonderful shows at the Bath Theatre Royal in years past.  All Good Afternoon Choir members enjoy singing Matt’s very special arrangements\, especially at the Big Sings when all the Good Afternoon Choirs join together to sing in one venue. \nA warm welcome awaits any new members\, there are NO auditions and everyone is welcome!  There is no charge for attending your first rehearsal.   Come alone or with a friend – either way Matt and the Choir will be pleased to meet you.  You will be joining over 1\,000 people singing at Good Afternoon Choirs around the South West and beyond! \nMembership forms are available to collect at every rehearsal.  The choir rehearsals are in 4 terms of 10 weeks and members pay £58 per term – this covers room and piano hire\, music\, admin and musician fees.  You do not need to join at the start of a term\, you can simply come along to any rehearsal and pick up a membership form should you wish to join the choir – your fee will then be worked out for the remainder of that term. \nIf you have any questions about the Choir please contact Tracey or Karin via email gac@grenvillemusic.co.uk or tel 01761 472468. \n

Plus\, a wildflower and wildlife walk and one ‘All About Trees’. \nLonger routes include the Pretty Village of North West Wiltshire\, Biddestone\, Castle Combe\, Colerne and Box. DESCRIPTION:Popular open days on a restored stretch of canal between near Chippenham are due to return this weekend.\nHundreds of people attended last year’s events at Pewsham Locks\, a flight of locks which once lifted narrowboats on their journey north along the Wilts & Berks Canal. \nVisitors can enjoy a pop-up café\, boat trips\, and tours of the building projects and wildflower meadow.\nThe first event takes place on Saturday 10th May and will be repeated on the second Saturday of each month until October. The café and tours open from 10am\, with boat trips available from 12.30pm\, before the event closes at around 3pm. \nThe open days are organised by the Melksham\, Chippenham & Calne branch of the Wilts & Berks Canal Trust. \nSpokesperson Bright Wright said: \nWe’re looking forward to welcoming lots of visitors and sharing the progress we’ve made in bringing this historic waterway back to life. People often enjoy walking or cycling along the towpath but this is a golden opportunity to learn so much more about the charity\, our local work and our plans for the future. \nWe’ll be offering guided tours of the dry dock and carpenter’s workshop\, which are due to be completed later this year\, as well as tours of the wildflower meadow and wildlife habitats. The boat rides are especially popular\, taking passengers to Double Bridge near Reybridge and back again. We also offer exclusive trips for community groups in the mornings. \nThese rides depend on the weather and the water levels though\, so we always advise people to check our social media for any late changes. Boats depart from the wharf at Pewsham Locks\, where the pop-up café offers plenty of tea\, coffee and cake\, and lots of seating beneath the trees – it’s a great location for a relaxing day out. \nThe site is just a short walk along a footpath from the edge of Pewsham. Directions are available at www.wbct.org.uk/mcc-events (please note there is no public parking at the locks). \nRefreshments and boat rides are available by cash donation or scanning a QR code.
