SUMMARY:Waverley Album Listening Event: January 2026
DESCRIPTION:The Waverley Album Club is a free monthly musical fundraiser for Dorothy House Hospice in Chippenham where we listen to vinyl records alongside occasional live music from local artists. \nWe have some brand new local live music for you from Chippenham’s own Robert McLeod aka Mac Lloyd at the first WALE of 2026 fundraiser for Dorothy House Hospice at the usual time of 8pm sharp on Wednesday January 21st. \nHe will be bringing his band ‘The Chosen Kin’ to play some tracks live for us from his debut album ‘Hold Fast’ first and then we will listen in full to the whole album on vinyl. It’s an interesting record in that the vinyl was manufactured by a new process technology different from the traditional stamper press method. \nThe music on the album is all self-composed and is an intriguing and very accessible blend of rootsy americana\, blues and soul. The album was launched at the end of November 2025 at a sold-out event at the Old Road Tavern in Chippenham. Copies of the album and other merchandise will be available to buy on the night. \nWe will finish the evening by remembering and talking about the work of David Robert Jones\, better known as David Bowie\, who left us ten years ago on January 10th 2016. We have chosen to pair the Mac Lloyd record with Bowie’s 1971 classic LP ‘Hunky Dory’ – with the help of Iain at Longwell Records in Keynsham (about to move to Clifton Arcade in Bristol) I found a really good quality 1980 re-issue copy of the vinyl for us to listen to. \nAs usual this is a FREE event but we welcome donations to the work of the Hospice.

SUMMARY:Creative Writing Workshops: 16-18 Year Olds
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we celebrate the 400th anniversary of the birth of local antiquarian and famous biographer\, John Aubrey. Open to young people aged 16-18\, these free workshops offer the chance to develop your writing skills and see your work in print. \nAubrey was an archaeologist\, scientist\, and historian who\, from a young age\, collected stories and local legends from people across Wiltshire. He used these to create a series of mini-biographies collectively known as Brief Lives. \nInspired by Aubrey’s work\, participants will use the museum’s collection of portraits\, taken by local photographers in the 1900s\, as creative prompts to write their own ‘brief life’ for these anonymous figures. \nAn experienced writer will lead the workshops\, helping young people develop their skills and explore new writing forms and genres\, including: \nPoetry and lyric writing\nDramatic monologues and short scripts\nShort stories and flash fiction\nThe project is supported by the Friends of Chippenham Museum and will conclude with a special celebration of the work produced\, including a printed publication. \nThese workshops are free\, but spaces are limited\, so booking is essential. DESCRIPTION:Chippenham Art Group meets monthly on Wednesdays in St Paul’s Church Hall\, Greenway Lane\, Chippenham. It’s led by artist Fran Young and organised by our experienced community services coordinator Pam Ollis. \nProjects ranging from painting and drawing to collage\, printing\, crafts\, clay modelling and more. We work at a leisurely pace with plenty of time for conversation and connection. No previous experience of art is necessary and everyone works at their own pace. SUMMARY:Creative Writing Workshops: 16-18 Year Olds
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we celebrate the 400th anniversary of the birth of local antiquarian and famous biographer\, John Aubrey. Open to young people aged 16-18\, these free workshops offer the chance to develop your writing skills and see your work in print. \nAubrey was an archaeologist\, scientist\, and historian who\, from a young age\, collected stories and local legends from people across Wiltshire. He used these to create a series of mini-biographies collectively known as Brief Lives. \nInspired by Aubrey’s work\, participants will use the museum’s collection of portraits\, taken by local photographers in the 1900s\, as creative prompts to write their own ‘brief life’ for these anonymous figures. \nAn experienced writer will lead the workshops\, helping young people develop their skills and explore new writing forms and genres\, including: \nPoetry and lyric writing\nDramatic monologues and short scripts\nShort stories and flash fiction\nThe project is supported by the Friends of Chippenham Museum and will conclude with a special celebration of the work produced\, including a printed publication. \nThese workshops are free\, but spaces are limited\, so booking is essential.
