DESCRIPTION:Calling all performers aged 13 and up (including adults) \nA NEW performance company for young people and adults. \nWe spent time in June 2025 exploring ideas and working together to see what sort of work we all wanted to create and this will now be followed by a 9 week rehearsal period from Saturday 27th September\, followed by an intensive rehearsal period in January 2026 finishing a performance on Feb 7th 2026 (Venue – TBC – as we’ll come up with that together). \nWhether you’re a seasoned actor or just starting out\, why not showcase your talent and connect with like-minded locals? It may be that you prefer to be backstage or help with the design and production. DESCRIPTION:Our Beginners Nordic walking course is the perfect introduction to this low-impact\, full-body exercise that combines walking with the use of specially designed poles. \nDesigned for all fitness levels\, the course typically covers the fundamentals of proper technique\, including posture\, rolling through the feet\, and the coordinated arm swing and leg movement. Participants learn how to use the poles effectively to engage the upper body\, improve balance\, and increase cardiovascular benefits compared to regular walking. \nThe course will be held outdoors in a relaxed\, supportive environment\, making it a great way to get active\, enjoy nature\, and meet like-minded people. By the end of the course\, participants often notice improved posture\, increased speed and distance and confidence in using Nordic walking poles efficiently to incorporate Nordic walking as part of a healthy lifestyle. \nThe 2 sessions will be held at Monkton Park\, meeting at the Tenth Hole Tea Room at 10.30am. You’ll use a diverse range of styles and techniques that stretch you and keep you motivated to improve. \nAll while enjoying fresh coffee and meeting some other lovely local artists. \nLife Drawing is challenging and rewarding\, but like drawing anything else\, it takes practice and patience. \nThe best way to encourage practice is to vary the media and techniques available; to make sure this is feasible\, we provide materials (donations welcome) This also allows more confidence as using expensive personal materials tends to inhibit experimentation. \nSometimes the session is devoted to a worksheet-style drawing\, using many poses on one sheet in different materials. DESCRIPTION:I’m happy to announce the next two static sessions of History Portal Club\, planned for September. \nHistory Portal Club is friendly regular meet-up for curious locals who love stories from the past\, hidden landmarks\, and great company. It’s a great way to explore the local area’s past together – no lectures\, no stuffy rooms\, just walking\, talking\, pub chats\, and stories you won’t find in the guidebooks. \nOn Tuesday 30 September we’ll explore the two periods of unrest Chippenham experienced – Why Did Chippenham Have Two Riots? – looking at causes\, effects\, and how we frame these both today and in the 19th century when they occurred. \nTogether we’ll explore and dissect the two incidents of unrest in the 19th century.\nWhat happened?\nWho was involved?\nWhere did they take place? \nThis club session will explore the action from all angles\, looking at cause and effect and tragic outcome\, and put the two riots into context\, from the perspective of the times they occurred and our modern viewpoints. \nThere’s more information on both the sessions here – www.lucywhitfieldhistorian.co.uk/history-club – and on how History Portal Club works. \nWe’re a friendly and very welcoming group. DESCRIPTION:Bicycles\, Trees\, and Teas is a FREE family friendly cycle ride and repair event exploring nature in Chippenham. The majority is traffic free and has several stopping points to allow people cycling of different abilities to catch up. \nThe ride is part of the Big Bike Revival\, and is particularly suitable for adults who are beginners\, improving\, or returning to cycling. \nThe route has a nature theme featuring:- \n\nFREE Cycle Repair checks at the start 1 hour before setting off . Cycle checks 9-30 to 10-30; ride leaves at approximately 10-30am.\nFREE Cycle accessories\nThe Rooted Tree nursery and Community garden at the Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre\nAvon Needs Trees site at Pudding Brook\nA pass by Abbeyfield School\nThe Tiny Forest in Monkton Park\nThe tenth Hole Tea rooms – with FREE refreshments\n\nFor those that need to return to the start the route can be completed. \nThe ride is approximately 5 miles and is almost entirely on the 403 Cycle track away from cars. There is a small section on quieter roads at Hardens mead. \nThe ride is guided by Cycle Chippenham volunteers and has been risk assessed.\nChildren under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.\nAs part of the Big Bike Revival grant criteria we will collect as a minimum a name and email address from adults at the ride event.\nOrganised by Cycle Chippenham in partnership with Chippenham Town Council as part of the Community Environmental Forum. \nTo reserve a place on this event please book via our Eventbrite link.  Spaces are limited so booking is essential!
