DESCRIPTION:Pop along on the 25th for cake and a cuppa\, then have a shop at the table top sale. Proceeds from Cake sale to raise money for Lyla’s new wheels* \n*Hi\, our names are Natasha and Paul\, Mum and Dad to 3 girls. Our middle child Lyla has just turned 11\, when she was 2 she was diagnosed with a chromosome deletion and then at 5 she was diagnosed with the progressive neurological disease called Autosomal Recessive Spastic Ataxia of Charlevoix Saguanay. Sadly there isn’t a cure and her mobility and speech will decline\, she currently has a manual wheelchair which we have to push as she isn’t strong enough to propel herself due to her condition. Lyla is starting at big school in September and is desperate to be independent and be able to “walk” to school with her friends. We have found an amazing piece of kit by Triride which attaches to her manual wheelchair and basically turns it into an electric wheelchair\, it can easily be removed when we want to push her but this would give her so much more opportunity. Sadly this comes at a massive cost\, £3500\, we are doing some fundraising as we need support and help from our friends to raise this amount.\nMany thanks\nTasha\, Paul and Lyla xx

DESCRIPTION:This day-workshop is a hands-on\, confidence-building opportunity to explore speaking and presenting skills: from voice to mindset to communication. \nIn the morning we will explore techniques for voice\, breath & body\, unlock words and language & understand non-verbal communication. \nIn the afternoon we will work on speech exercises\, and take this into practising a simple\, individual speech-extract. You can work on your own speech (should you have one) or choose from a range of texts (shared in advance). There will be small-group and whole-group practise\, with expert guidance from Helen and friendly feedback from participants. You will take away a Workbook of the key tools and exercises.

DESCRIPTION:The post-war book designs of artist and teacher\, Stephen Russ\, are coming to life at Chippenham Museum. \nFrom the forties to the seventies\, Russ produced dozens of dust jackets\, from striking first editions of Graham Greene at Bodley Head to a wide range of titles at Collins\, including nature books and the famous Collins Crime Club. \nHe is perhaps best known for his work with Penguin\, designing covers for the main orange series\, the lesser-known music scores\, and the highly collectible Penguin Poets series. His phoenix motif for DH Lawrence’s Lady Chatterley’s Lover became famous during the 1960 obscenity trial and featured in the marketing that helped make the book a bestseller. \nThe exhibition also celebrates Russ’s thirty-year career as a tutor at the renowned Bath Academy of Art in Corsham\, brought together with the generous support of the Russ family and loans from the Penguin Archive and the University of Bristol.

DESCRIPTION:A monthly music fundraiser event for Dorothy House Hospice\, now celebrating its 50th anniversary\, featuring classic album playback using donated hi-fi equipment and occasional live music. \nOriginally from rural outback Australia\, Nuala Honan was awarded the South Australian Music Industry Award for Most Outstanding Female Vocalist before moving to England (aged just 19) to be closer to her family’s Irish musical heritage and an adventurous music scene. Now part of Bristol’s vibrant music community\, she has previously performed for us at The Waverley alongside Samuel Fox (aka Mossfellow) at our 1st anniversary event in August 2025. She returns to showcase her own 2020 album ‘Doubt & Reckoning’\, chosen by BBC6Music as ‘Album Of The Day’ back then and supported by DJs Lauren Laverne and Tom Robinson. We will listen to the album in full on vinyl and Nuala will perform some tracks from this live along with some new work-in-progress songs destined for a new album. Nuala will be happy to discuss her music and will have copies of her album to purchase. \nAlongside this Nuala chose Jeff Buckley’s 1994 debut and only studio album ‘Grace’ for us to listen to and discuss – a truly classic\, if perhaps tragic\, record. Jeff was the subject of a celebrated 2025 documentary film ‘It’s Never Over\, Jeff Buckley.’ \nWe will finish the evening by remembering the music of Prince\, who left us 10 years ago on April 21st\, 2016\, by playing a couple of tracks from his 1991 multi-platinum hit double-LP ‘Diamonds & Pearls.’ \nAs usual all are welcome to this event\, which is FREE to attend\, but voluntary donations to the work of the Hospice are of course very much appreciated. \nFor further details contact albumlisteningevent@gmail.com

SUMMARY:Lady Chatterley’s Cover: The Book Designs of Stephen Russ
DESCRIPTION:The post-war book designs of artist and teacher\, Stephen Russ\, are coming to life at Chippenham Museum. \nFrom the forties to the seventies\, Russ produced dozens of dust jackets\, from striking first editions of Graham Greene at Bodley Head to a wide range of titles at Collins\, including nature books and the famous Collins Crime Club. \nHe is perhaps best known for his work with Penguin\, designing covers for the main orange series\, the lesser-known music scores\, and the highly collectible Penguin Poets series. His phoenix motif for DH Lawrence’s Lady Chatterley’s Lover became famous during the 1960 obscenity trial and featured in the marketing that helped make the book a bestseller. \nThe exhibition also celebrates Russ’s thirty-year career as a tutor at the renowned Bath Academy of Art in Corsham\, brought together with the generous support of the Russ family and loans from the Penguin Archive and the University of Bristol.
