SUMMARY:Peter Potworowski: West Country Exile
DESCRIPTION:Born in Poland in 1898\, Peter Potworowski was part of the Parisian Artistic community of the 1920s that included the likes of Picasso\, Bonnard\, and Léger. After the Nazi-occupation of his home-land Potworowski settled in England in 1943\, beginning a long association with the West Country. \nThe majority of works in this selling exhibition are from his time living in Cornwall\, Devon\, Somerset and Wiltshire. In 1949 he joined the teaching staff at the Bath Academy of Art\, Corsham\, where his own work as an artist matured in contact with the English landscape. \nChippenham Museum\, a Chippenham Town Council facility\, is free entry\, open Monday-Saturday 10am-4pm\, including bank holidays.

SUMMARY:Arts Society Lecture : Donatello and the birth of the Renaissance
DESCRIPTION:In the early decades of the 15th century\, the small city state of Florence was the birthplace of an astonishing\, bloodless\, revolution\, now known as the renaissance.\nMany of its painters\, composers\, musicians\, architects\, thinkers\, philosophers and patrons knew and influenced each other. None more so than the sculptor\, Donatello\, (above) who created new worlds out of stone\, suffusing it with drama\, humanity and tenderness.\nIn the wake of a major exhibition at the V and A\, the lecture looks at how he\, in harness with many other renaissance figures who are part of his journey\, changed the face of European culture for ever.\nArts Society Lecturer: Sarah Dunant.\nSarah is a novelist\, broadcaster and critic. Sarah read history at Cambridge\, then worked for many years as a cultural journalist in radio and television on such programmes as Kaleidoscope (BBC Radio 4)\, The Late Show (BBC 2)\, and Night Waves/Free Thinking (BBC Radio 3). She is a regular contributor to BBC Radio 4’s A Point of View and these talks\, alongside her series on history for Radio 4\, When Greeks Flew Kites are available on podcast or BBC sounds. \nThis lecture is part of Kington Langley’s Monthly Lecture Series and members will receive notification as a matter of course. DESCRIPTION:Training for representatives of community organisations that support local people who are struggling with bills or need extra support. \nThe training is a ‘train the trainer’ style session so that delegates can confidently share the advice to other staff and volunteers within their own organisations and support their service users. \nThe Wessex Water Tailored Assistance programme comprises a wide range of affordability support to help customers who are struggling to pay their bills including flexible payment plans\, payment breaks\, payments direct from benefits\, low income discounts and bill caps. We are doubling the number of people we can support. Nigel Linacre wrote the words in the months after his musician son’s death by his own hand. Jazz band leader Vladimir Miller used George’s rhythms as a starting point to compose the music\, which combines jazz and classical forms. International opera star Neil Latchman and rock singer Keri Farish lead the vocalists\, accompanied by Nigel Linacre and Gavin Macrae\, both of whom have lost a son to suicide.
