SUMMARY:Wiltshire and the World: John Aubrey and the Quest for Knowledge
DESCRIPTION:John Aubrey was born in the small hamlet of Easton Piercy\, near Kington St Michael. Four hundred years later\, this exhibition celebrates the life and work of this extraordinary individual. \nWhen Aubrey was born in 1626\, it seemed that life would never change. But when he was just sixteen\, the English Civil War broke out\, and things changed rapidly. As old certainties unravelled\, space was created for an explosion of new ideas. Not all of this change was positive\, however. Advances in some areas were met with destruction in others. \nThroughout his life\, Aubrey was on a quest for knowledge. He wanted to learn everything he could. He grew up in Wiltshire\, but his vision was global. What he observed in the local countryside\, its people and places\, he expanded into a wider\, interconnected view of the world. From the ancient monuments of prehistoric peoples to contemporary ballads sung in the streets\, nothing escaped his notice. Seeing and doing things for himself\, rather than relying on what had been done before\, was central to his understanding. \nWhen Aubrey could not gain first-hand experience\, he sought out those who could. He consulted and collaborated with a wide range of people. He was not concerned with their background; instead\, he proudly credited and celebrated the knowledge and experiences they held. \nAubrey’s insatiable thirst for knowledge left an extraordinary legacy. When he saw historically important places and objects being destroyed\, he recorded them before it was too late. He gathered the unfiltered life stories of both the important and the not so important people of his time. He also looked to the future\, with plans to create an environment in which science and learning could flourish in the Wiltshire countryside. \nThis exhibition brings original manuscripts\, paintings and books back to Wiltshire and the area Aubrey knew for the first time since his death in 1697. Through them\, we can witness John Aubrey’s quest for knowledge and be inspired to begin our own. \nThe exhibition forms part of the Chippenham – Our History project.

DESCRIPTION:Our free guided walks are back for 2026! \nJoin a member of the Chippenham Museum team on select Thursdays and Saturdays from May to September for a 40-minute journey through the town’s history\, from King Alfred and the Saxons to the present day. \nPerfect for residents\, visitors and groups! Meet at The Buttercross\, Market Place. Arrive 5 to 10 minutes before to allow for a prompt start. Inspired by Drenge\, Nirvana\, Them Crooked Vultures\, and The White Stripes\, their explosive live shows deliver razor-sharp riffs and relentless intensity. \nWe are hugely excited to announce the opening act. Neversound are a four-piece alternative rock and grunge band from Devon\, delivering powerful riffs\, raw vocals and a modern take on the iconic sound of the ’90s. Drawing inspiration from bands such as Alice in Chains and Soundgarden\, their high-energy live shows blend heavy grooves with honest songwriting and unapologetic attitude.

Kyla’s teachings offer individuals an opportunity to find their own rhythm\, with a gentle focus on alignment to increase physical strength\, concentration\, and balance. No two classes are the same\, sometimes a gentle flow\, sometimes restorative\, always strengthening through our connection to breath and the physical body.  \nKyla likens her classes to a shared journey\, through a mixture of movement and breath-work as way of connecting and finding a deep inner peace. SUMMARY:Big Bike Revival - Chippenham Town Circular ride
DESCRIPTION:As part of the #BigBikeRevival Cycle Chippenham are delighted to offer four FREE easy guided Cycle rides for adults who are beginners\, improvers\, or returners to cycling. \nUnder 18s are welcome to join but must be accompanied by a responsible adult. \nOur second two Cycle rides form a circular ride exploring off road routes and quieter streets to help you get around Chippenham. \nStarting at the Bewley House on the corner of Marshfield Road and Dallas Road we will cycle a mostly flat circular route around Chippenham\, stopping halfway at Derriard’s pond for FREE refreshments. \nWe are also providing a FREE updated Chippenham Cycle map showing safer routes to cycle around Chippenham. \nThis an easy mostly flat ride approximately 5 miles.The ride is aimed to encourage adults who want to return to cycling or discover new safer routes to get around Chippenham. Under 18s need to be accompanied by a responsible adult. \nSo why not dust off your old cycle and join us on this guided circular ride. \nThough the event is FREE booking is required via the Eventbrite link.
