A box-office phenomenon in Italy\, it was the country’s most successful film of 2023 and was winner of multiple international awards\, It is a rare film that unites critical acclaim with audience enrapturement. Set In post-war Rome\, in May 1946\, the main character Delia\, endures a violent\, domineering husband while nursing her irritable father-in-law and dreaming of a better future for her children. We see Delia breaking traditional family patterns and aspiring to a different future\, after receiving a mysterious letter.

Julie Newmar’ (PG rated) and is showing as a special screening at Chippenham’s Reel Cinema as part of the main schedule of events for PrideFest on Sunday 14th June at 2pm. \nThe film is a 1995 American road comedy-drama film starring Wesley Snipes\, Patrick Swayze\, and John Leguizamo as three New York City drag queens. It has become a cult favorite amongst the LGBT community and Swayze and Leguizamo were nominated at the 1996 Golden Globe Awards\, for Best Actor – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy and Best Supporting Actor\, respectively. The film was nominated for Outstanding Film at the 1996 GLAAD Media Awards. \nTickets for the special screening are available via the Chippenham Film Club Website or via the Chippenham Pride Website – priced at £7.05 for adults and £5.42 for children (under 12)

It was nominated for a Palm d’ Or and Queer Palm in 2016\, and won a BAFTA in 2018 Best Film Not in the English Language. The film has appeared on many lists of the greatest films of the 21st century\, and since its release has been regarded as one of Park’s finest works. \nSet in 1930s Korea\, during the period of Japanese occupation\, a new girl is hired as a handmaiden to a Japanese heiress\, Lady Hideko\, who lives a secluded life on a large countryside estate with her domineering uncle. But the maid\, Sookee\, has a secret. She is a pickpocket recruited by a swindler posing as a Japanese Count to help him seduce the Lady to elope with him\, rob her of her fortune\, and lock her up in a madhouse. The plan seems to proceed according to plan until Sookee and Hideko discover some unexpected emotions. \nThe film starts at 7.30pm om Tuesday June 9th. Anyone can book tickets\, but if you purchase a membership you receive a 35% discount of all screenings – 26/27 memberships are just being renewed. \nThe Club is also showing ‘To Wong Foo\, Thanks for Everything! DESCRIPTION:Part of the Wild Waters Festival and partnering with Chippenham Town Council\, Chippenham Film Club are proud to host a screening of the film ‘Rave On For The Avon’ on Saturday 30th May at 1.30pm at The Reel Cinema\, Chippenham\, followed by a Q&A session with one of the film creators. \nThe film ‘Rave On For The Avon’ showcases the unwavering strength of a group of Bristolians in the face of adversity\, with a mermaid\, a scientist\, a group of ravers\, and the ‘river’s wif’e all coming together to celebrate the River Avon. Independent filmmakers Charlotte Sawyer\, and Aggie Nyagari came together to create a deeply personal documentary that\, in Charlotte’s words\, “is really all about love”. \nNote all tickets are FREE but need to be booked via our website. \nAfter the screening you can optionally ‘follow the fish’ to the Early Earth Protectors community garden next to Baydon’s Meadow for a 5pm river ceremony with River Bride and Poet Mrs. Meg Avon\, followed by music from local singer-songwriter M3G and the Early Earth Protectors wil be performing their own new song\, written and recorded with the help of RiverBank Studios. This will be a chance to connect to nature and meet like-minded people after being inspired by the documentary.

DESCRIPTION:Chippenham Film Club was formed to bring films to the town that would not normally be seen on the big screen in Chippenham. Anyone can attend Film Club Screenings\, but members get discounted tickets. \nThe April 2026 screening is on Tuesday 14th April at 7.30pm and is the 2023 movie ‘The Zone Of Interest’ written and directed by Jonathan Glazer. This is a historical drama loosely based on the novel of the same title by Martin Amis. The story focuses on the life of German Auschwitz commandant Rudolf Höss and his family in their home next to the concentration camp. \n‘The Zone of Interest’ premiered at the 76th Cannes Film Festival on 19 May 2023 to critical acclaim. The film received five Academy Awards nominations (including Best Picture)\, winning Best International Feature\, becoming the first non-English British film to do so\, the film also picked the Oscar for Best Sound. The film won the Grand Prix at Cannes and three British Academy Film Awards\, becoming the first film to win both Best Film Not in the English Language and Outstanding British Film. It also received three nominations at the Golden Globe Awards; and was named one of the top five international films of 2023 by the National Board of Review. ‘The Zone of Interest’ has become regarded as one of the greatest films of the 2020s and the 21st century.

Screenings are typically held every month on the second Tuesday at The Reel Cinema – anyone can attend but members get discounted tickets. \nThis month we have ‘Vermiglio’ (also known as ‘The Mountain Bride’) which is a 2024 wartime drama set in a remote Alpine village. The film has an age rating of 15. As the momentous events of the Second World War draw to a close\, and life returns to normal\, the arrival of a Sicilian deserter unsettles the isolated Alpine community’s quiet equilibrium\, and unsettles a schoolteacher’s family\, particularly his eldest daughter. \nDirected by Maura Delpero\, and starring Tommaso Ragno (‘Happy as Lazzaro’\, ‘Nostalgia’)\, ‘Vermiglio’ collected a slew of awards and nominations\, including the Venice International Film Festival where Delpero won the Silver Lion\, and Sorriso Diverso (best Italian film)\, with Martina Scrinzi winning the Nuovoimae Talent Award for best new young actress.

After years of being controlled by her repressive mother\, Clara’s sexuality awakens when she becomes attracted to her niece’s new boyfriend. This newfound force leads her into unexplored territory\, allowing her to cross both physical and mystical boundaries. Empowered by self-discovery\, Clara gradually frees herself from her role as a “saint” and begins to heal herself. \nClara Sola was selected as the Costa Rican entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 94th Academy Awards.

The film is a French bitter sweet comedy drama (‘En Fanfare’) which premiered at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival. \nIt tells the story of an internationally renowned orchestra conductor who is diagnosed with leukaemia and discovers he is adopted from a DNA test to find a potential bone marrow donor. From this revelation\, he meets his younger biological brother who plays trombone in a small local marching band. He takes on the role of conductor of the band and the brothers learn more about the circumstances that shaped each other’s lives.

A co-production between Japan and Germany\, the film follows the routine life of Hirayama (Kōji Yakusho)\, a reserved\, kind-hearted Tokyo toilet cleaner\, who finds beauty in the ordinary. \n‘Perfect Days’ premiered at the 76th Cannes Film Festival\, where it competed for the Palme d’Or and won the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury and the Best Actor Award for Kōji Yakusho. \nIt was nominated for the Best International Feature Film at the 96th Academy Awards\, becoming the first film directed by a non-Japanese filmmaker to be nominated as the Japanese entry.

Anyone can attend\, but membership gives 35% discount for the monthly shows \nOctober’s Film Club Screening is “Brazil” (age rating 15) is a 1985 dystopian science fiction black comedy film written and directed by Terry Gilliam – originally one of the Monty Python team who did the animations for them. The film stars Jonathan Pryce\, Robert De Niro\, Katherine Helmond\, Ian Holm\, Bob Hoskins\, Michael Palin\, Ian Richardson\, Peter Vaughan\, and Kim Greist. The film tells the story of Sam Lowry (Pryce)\, a low-ranking bureaucrat trying to find a woman (Greist) who appears in his dreams. “Brazil”’s satire of technocracy\, bureaucracy\, hyper-surveillance\, corporate statism and state capitalism draws heavily on themes contained in George Orwell’s 1949 novel “Nineteen Eighty-Four”\, it has been described as “Kafkaesque”\, as well as absurdist.The film won best production design and best special effects at the 1986 BAFTA Awards. The screening will be the original full ‘Directors Cut’ ending version
