DESCRIPTION:Calling all individuals\, community groups\, schools\, small businesses and local charities! \nBe part of Chippenham’s history in 2026! \nA brand-new and comprehensive history of Chippenham is being published\, and we want the whole community to be involved. \nTo celebrate the publication of the Victoria County History\, Volume 20 – Chippenham and the Surrounding Area\, there will be exciting events at Chippenham Museum\, the Town Hall\, and the Wiltshire & Swindon History Centre. \nNow we need YOU! \nJoin us on Saturday 11th October at 11am in the Neeld Foyer to find out how you can get involved. \nWhether you’d like to run a project\, host an event or exhibition\, or simply share your group’s story\, we want to help make it happen. \nHow can you take part? \nYou could: \nCreate an exhibition \nRun a community event \nResearch the history of your house or street \nShare the story of your group\, business or neighbourhood \nThis is your chance to shape how Chippenham’s story is told and celebrated. SUMMARY:Oral History Training
DESCRIPTION:Our Oral History training is taking place at The Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre on Monday 20 May\, 10am to 1pm. \nWe will have the opportunity to tour the county archives to see where the full recordings will be stored. We will learn about how to carry out and record a good oral history interview and have time to practice. \nThe session will be led by Ruth Butler from the History Centre and tea\, coffee and biscuits will be provided. \nOnce we have completed our training\, we will talk about how we are going to conduct the interviews for this project and what we are going to do with them. \nThe interviews will take place during June\, July & August and we can use The Calne Heritage Centre as a base for this. I will be coordinating the interviews. A few people have come forward to say they would like to share their stories. If you know of anyone else who would like to talk to us\, please let me know. \nThis training session is free to attend\, but please book your place in advance by emailing emily@yesterdaysstory.co.uk \n

DESCRIPTION:This a brand new performance was commissioned by Yesterday’s Story to share the story of Queen Mary I and her association with Chippenham Borough Lands for Fringe Feb 2023. \nDevised and performed by Wiltshire based songwriter and performer Louise Jordan – The Pop-Up Pedestal is a one woman street theatre performance. Watch the statue come to life\, be entertained and experience local history which still has an impact on Chippenham residents today. \nSaturday – 10am at Chippenham Bridge\, 12pm at The Buttercross\, 3pm in Borough Parade \nSunday – 10am at Chippenham Bridge\, 12pm at The Buttercross\, 2pm at Borough Parade \nYesterday’s Story CIC aims to tell stories from the past\, by bringing them to life through arts\, culture and live events. \nFunding support from Chippenham Borough Lands Charity. \n \n
