Learn about our fascinating history and find out more about Joseph Neeld\, our namesake and benefactor. \nDelve into the secret corners of the Neeld and Town Hall to discover behind-the-scenes areas such as the tech booth\, backstage and Mayor’s Parlour. \nOur free guided tour will tell you more about the fascinating history of our buildings. \nThe Neeld has played several different roles in the heart of the Chippenham community\, including a Cheese Market and a WW1 Hospital. Following a refurbishment project in 2015\, The Neeld is a thriving Community and Arts Centre with an exciting programme of professional shows and local groups’ activities. The Town Hall was opened in 1834 and remains the civic heart of the town and home of Chippenham Town Council. \nTours will take place at 10am and midday (duration approx. 45 minutes). Each tour will have a maximum of 20 people so pre-booking is encouraged to avoid disappointment. \nChildren’s colouring activity available. Anyone under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. \nCertain areas of this tour are only accessible by stairs. \nOur customer service desk will be open throughout the day but the tour must be pre-booked. \nThere is parking nearby at Bath Road car park (long stay) or Borough Parade car park (short stay). DESCRIPTION:When The Fureys make their eagerly awaited return to the Neeld\, they will treat their audience to one of popular music’s richest legacies. \nThey are one of Ireland’s all-time most acclaimed and influential middle of the road\, folk and traditional bands. Fureys’ classics like I Will Love You\, When You Were Sweet 16\, Red Rose Café\, Leaving Nancy\, The Old Man\, From Clare to Here and The Green Fields of France have become the soundtrack to the lives of fans all over the world. \nThe Furey brothers were still trying to make it as folk singers in the late Sixties when Eddie Furey shared flats in Scotland with then fellow folk stars-in-waiting\, Billy Connolly and Gerry Rafferty (of Baker Street fame). \nEddie and George Furey are particularly proud of their UK chart success with songs such as I Will Love You and When You Were Sweet Sixteen\, which in turn helped bring Irish folk and traditional music to a completely new audience. The band made their Top of the Pops debut in 1981. \nEddie Furey recalls how “many musicians have told us we influenced them after hearing a record from their parents’ or grandparents’ collection”. Dave Stewart of The Eurythmics has credited Eddie with teaching him his first chords on the guitar. Eddie would return the compliment by joining Dave on stage in Paris for a jam during the latter’s wedding to Bananarama’s Siobhan Fahey.

DESCRIPTION:It’s Panto time – Oh yes it is! \nMade to Measure Productions are delighted to return to the Neeld Community & Arts Centre\, bringing with them their magical family pantomime adventure – Jack and the Beanstalk! \nSuitable for all ages from 3 to 103\, this magical production boasts stunning scenery\, colourful costumes\, toe-tapping songs and laughter by the bucketful – you really won’t want to miss this traditional\, yet innovative\, hilarious family pantomime! \nJoin our hero Jack as he makes his way up the beanstalk to Cloudland to save Princess Apricot from the clutches of the evil Giant Blunderbore! \nNever fear\, Fairy Daffodil’s here! She’ll be sprinkling some sparkle over proceedings and making sure that we get that ‘Happy Ever After’ after all! \nJack’s outrageous mother ‘Dame Trott’ will be showing off a spectacular wardrobe\, and his brother ‘Silly Billy’ will have you rolling in the aisles! \nSo beat those festive blues and join in the fun with Jack and the Beanstalk at the Neeld this January!
