Nigel Linacre wrote the words in the months after his musician son’s death by his own hand. Jazz band leader Vladimir Miller used George’s rhythms as a starting point to compose the music\, which combines jazz and classical forms. International opera star Neil Latchman and rock singer Keri Farish lead the vocalists\, accompanied by Nigel Linacre and Gavin Macrae\, both of whom have lost a son to suicide.

The orchestra was founded in 1966 in Marlborough and has been performing regularly ever since. \nSt. Andrew’s Church in Chippenham is the orchestra’s regular concert venue\, where three concerts a year are performed. \nThe orchestra’s principal conductor is Alex Arkwright. Its leader is Sara Stagg. Philip Dukes\, Artistic Director of Music at Marlborough College\, and well known professional Viola player\, is the artistic advisor to the orchestra.

DESCRIPTION:The Rotary Club of Chippenham is once again organising their traditional Christmas Extravaganza Concert\, it will be held at the beautiful venue of St Andrew’s Church\, Market Place\, Chippenham SN15 3HT. This year the musical celebration will be held on Saturday 10th December\, starting at 7.30 pm. \nFor the event we will welcome back the local Military Wives Choir and the Dodington Parish Band. We had an entertaining evening last year and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the music\, singing and the atmosphere. DESCRIPTION:The Grief Opera\, Love Goes On is an original work of loss and love in song. \nLosing his son\, Nigel Linacre wrote poetry then combined with musician Vladimir Miller\, to bring grief to life. From Nigel’s last conversations with his son\, George\, via shock and pain\, and a return to love. Along this grief journey\, we see the father broken\, and yet ultimately remade. \nReflecting varied mental states\, the music is infused with a range of musical styles. Vladimir Miller is a gifted jazz composer. The music reflects the libretto\, and is also a counterpoint\, lightening the darkness. \nThe music is informed by the late George Linacre\, a composer of bass rhythms and more\, with the Eschar band. George’s riffs provide the beat for key songs. \nVladimir and Nigel are joined on stage by soprano Rebecca Snell and tenor Gavin Macrae. David Shepard on clarinet\, Meg Moss on violin\, Nigel Shires on double bass\, and Susan Norton on cello. Tom Linacre adds his voice.
