DESCRIPTION:Come along to the first ever Burt’s Fest at The Arc\, Chippenham – a free skate jam hosted by Burts Boards\, including a comp with prizes\, so bring your board!  \nThere will also be graffiti demos\, music by Mac Lloyd\, skate shop stalls and a special Arc Cafe pizza and beer deal. \nEven if you’re not skating\, this will be a great event to watch. SUMMARY:Visual-Impaired Climbing Event - The Climbing Academy - The Arc
DESCRIPTION:Bath University is looking for young people (16-24 years) with vision impairment. They are running a free climbing event at The Arc on 9 June and are looking for participants. This is part of a project where visually impaired young people will co-design research to help identify the barriers and enablers for participation. \nThere are 12 climbing spaces available for those aged 16-24 years who live in the UK. No experience is required. On the day\, you may choose not to climb. You may also come just for a chat to find out more about this event and others being run by the University researchers. Organisers can cover your travel expenses that do not exceed £100. Participation in the climbing aspect of this day is not recommended for people with vertigo. You can withdraw and leave at any time. SUMMARY:Tour of The Arc
DESCRIPTION:As part of Heritage Open Days you can book a free guided tour of The Arc\, Chippenham’s most striking new building. \nDesigned by Chippenham Architect Rob Elkins (Artel 31) for Chippenham Borough Lands Charity\, The Arc climbing centre is one of Chippenham’s newest and most striking structures. It is one of the first climbing centres in the UK to be entirely purpose-built. Most are established in existing warehouses or churches. \n \nThis is your chance to find out what goes on behind the peaks of the impressive north and south blocks. You will learn interesting details about the building including how it has been future-proofed to withstand being built on a flood plain! The centre is operated by The Climbing Academy on behalf of CBLC. You will have the chance to meet TCA staff and ask questions about how the centre works. \n \nIn addition to the main buildings\, The Arc features an impressive wooden cafe decking that affords views of the rare outside climbing wall\, a state-of-the-art skatepark (designed by CANVAS) and Westmead Playing Fields. The tour will include inside and outside locations\, so come prepared for both. \nThe building is fully accessible for wheelchair users. SUMMARY:The Arc Jam
DESCRIPTION:The Arc Jam is a chance to celebrate the official opening of The Arc\, a brand-new climbing centre\, skatepark and cafe facility in Chippenham. \nThe Arc Jam will include: – \n\ndemonstrations by professional skateboarders\nskatepark competitions with prizes\nphotos and video opportunities on the day to show off your skills in the bowl\nclimbing demonstrations on the outside wall\n\nCanvas \nThe skatepark was designed and built by Bristol Skatepark design specialists\, CANVAS\, who will be hosting the range of activities around the skatepark on the 9th. The skatepark competitions will be split up into different categories depending on those in attendance on the day. These will be carried out in an ‘informal jam format’ to ensure that the day is inclusive to all ages and abilities. Prizes awarded to those e.g. who are doing impressive tricks\, having the most fun\, showing the most progression etc. \nClimbing demonstrations \nThere will also be climbing demonstrations from a wide range of climbers on the outside wall from 12-3pm but the climbing centre and café will be open as normal. \nEverest climber – Kenton Cool \nLegendary British climber\, Kenton Cool\, will also be attending the launch event. In May this year he is attempting to summit Everest for a record-breaking 16th attempt. He was the first man to climb Nuptse\, Everest and Lhotse in a climbing season.  A great opportunity to see and meet one of Britain’s most high-profile and celebrated climbers. \n\nThe Arc was built by Chippenham Borough Lands Charity (CBLC) and is being run by The Climbing Academy (TCA). This brand new purpose-built centre offers bouldering\, roped climbing\, a cafe and the free skatepark overlooking Westmead playing field. \nThe Arc \nThe Arc is a safe and supportive space for families\, individuals and youth or community groups. You can start bouldering anytime without doing a course\, but the centre offers taster sessions and beginners roped courses for newcomers\, as well as skills coaching. \nAn accessible sport \nClimbing is a welcoming sport that is accessible to all shapes\, sizes and ages. You can boulder from any age and over 70s climb for free at all TCA centres. The centre is fully accessible with free on-site parking for disabled customers. The sport\, which featured in the recent summer Olympics for the first time\, has proven benefits to both physical and mental health. Providing active movement\, from energetic overhangs at height to balanced slab traverses only centimetres off a mat. It helps participants to improve confidence and focus. \nThe Climbing Academy \nTCA opened its first centre in Bristol in 2008. The Arc is TCA’s 3rd centre in the south west of England and 5th centre in total\, with 2 in Glasgow. \nChippenham Borough Lands Charity \nChippenham Borough Lands Charity is a grant giving organisation that supports local residents in welfare\, education\, arts and community projects.
