DESCRIPTION:The man who once told us he loved us from the bottom of his pencil case\, founder Beautiful South member Dave Hemingway returns with his new band SUNBIRDS. \nHaving retired from the live scene at the back end of 2016\, Dave has been keeping busy together with erstwhile South colleague\, guitarist/songwriter Phil Barton\, new discovery singer/violinist Laura Wilcockson and drummer Marc Parnell. \n‘Cool To Be Kind’ was released in November 2020\, on the independent label Nectar Records signalling the arrival of Sunbirds with new songs and a new sound. \nAlthough born and bred in England\, the band’s sound predominantly features the instrumentation of traditional American roots music combined with the occasional outburst of guitar heavy melody more associated with Seattle in the late 80’s/early 90’s. \nHowever\, you can only sing about what you know. \n“Although a lot of the songs have an Americana feel” says Dave “they’re still about life in England. You’re going to feel a bit daft singing about pick-up trucks and low down honky-tonks when you live in Yorkshire.” \nTheir debut album produced by cult producer Teo Miller\, captures truthful\, open-hearted\, funny and sometimes painfully honest songs\, turning the page to a new chapter for Dave Hemingway and The Beautiful South story. \n‘Cool To Be Kind’ is the result of a few transitional years in Dave and Phil’s individual personal worlds. Basically it must’ve been my fault cause I’m me\, Destiny” \n\nDestiny dreams big. She dreams glamour. She’s gonna be an MTV Base backing dancer\, you watch. If J-Lo can make it outta the Bronx then Destiny can make it off the Hill Rise estate in Chippenham. She’s fearless\, ferocious and up for the fight (she’s had to be). Born below the breadline\, she’s desperate to see beyond the neighbourhood and find hope in hopelessness. \nThis monologue follows the story of a teenage girl growing up on a rural Wiltshire council estate. After a big night out takes a turn for the worst\, Destiny’s life spirals out of control as she desperately tries to learn how to love and be loved. \nAge guidance: 14+\nTrigger warning: Sexual abuse and violence.\nLength: 70 minutes   \nTICKETS: In order to make this event as accessible to as many people as possible there is a pay what-you-can-afford ticketing system for this event. Please choose from £10\, £5 or £2. \n\nDESTINY is a recipient of The Pleasance’s 2021 National Partnerships Award with Bristol Old Vic FERMENT and was shortlisted for Theatre West’s Write On Women Award. \nIt has been developed with support from Tobacco Factory Theatres\, Bristol Old Vic FERMENT\, Pound Arts\, Strike a Light\, The Pleasance\, Tim Crouch\, Wiltshire Creative\, Natural Theatre\, Paper Arts\, Theatre Bristol\, Hawkwood College\, Arts Council England and Gane Trust. \n\nThis event is funded thanks to support from Chippenham Borough Lands Charity
