SUMMARY:April 22nd 2026 Waverley Album Listening Party Fundraiser With Free Live Music From Nuala Honan
DESCRIPTION:A monthly music fundraiser event for Dorothy House Hospice\, now celebrating its 50th anniversary\, featuring classic album playback using donated hi-fi equipment and occasional live music. \nOriginally from rural outback Australia\, Nuala Honan was awarded the South Australian Music Industry Award for Most Outstanding Female Vocalist before moving to England (aged just 19) to be closer to her family’s Irish musical heritage and an adventurous music scene. Now part of Bristol’s vibrant music community\, she has previously performed for us at The Waverley alongside Samuel Fox (aka Mossfellow) at our 1st anniversary event in August 2025. She returns to showcase her own 2020 album ‘Doubt & Reckoning’\, chosen by BBC6Music as ‘Album Of The Day’ back then and supported by DJs Lauren Laverne and Tom Robinson. We will listen to the album in full on vinyl and Nuala will perform some tracks from this live along with some new work-in-progress songs destined for a new album. Nuala will be happy to discuss her music and will have copies of her album to purchase. \nAlongside this Nuala chose Jeff Buckley’s 1994 debut and only studio album ‘Grace’ for us to listen to and discuss – a truly classic\, if perhaps tragic\, record. Jeff was the subject of a celebrated 2025 documentary film ‘It’s Never Over\, Jeff Buckley.’ \nWe will finish the evening by remembering the music of Prince\, who left us 10 years ago on April 21st\, 2016\, by playing a couple of tracks from his 1991 multi-platinum hit double-LP ‘Diamonds & Pearls.’ \nAs usual all are welcome to this event\, which is FREE to attend\, but voluntary donations to the work of the Hospice are of course very much appreciated. \nFor further details contact albumlisteningevent@gmail.com

You’ll learn how to layer washes\, add fine details\, and create an illustration that feels both delicate and confident – perfect for capturing the character of a plant without needing scientific precision. \nThere will be a selection of plant and botanical reference images on the table\, and you’re welcome to bring a favourite leaf or flower of your own to paint. You can work at your own pace\, with as much or as little guidance as you’d like. \nThis workshop is beginner-friendly and low-pressure\, designed to be enjoyable and encouraging rather than technical or intimidating. Also on the night you can buy one answer per round for £1 and £4 buys you a joker to be played before the round to double your score \nThe winning team will receive half the cash pot as the prize plus a round of drinks (beer\, cider\, wine or soft drinks) and the remaining 50% will be donated to Chippenham Sounds.

DESCRIPTION:The Waverley bar in Chippenham hosts a monthly music fundraiser for Dorothy House Hospice. We listen to a classic vinyl album alongside music from less well-known artists\, often local musicians. \nThis month\, on Wednesday February 18th at the usual start time of 8pm\, we have live music and another brand-new album for you to enjoy at the Album Listening Party fundraiser for Dorothy House Hospice. \nLocal musician and music therapist\, Will Lawton\, will present the music he has created with Argentinian guitarist and songwriter Ludwig Mack\, after a chance meeting during the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown period. The album they made together entitled ‘Five Years In The Cotswolds’ is not yet formally released on CD or vinyl\, however they have kindly provided a high-resolution digital copy for us to listen to alongside their live performance at The Waverley. \nIf you are intrigued enough\, you can hear the whole album prior to the release by purchasing a hardback book they have produced about the creation of the record which contains a QR code which gives private access to all 10 album tracks. Copies of the book and other merchandise will be available to buy on the night. \nWe will partner this music with a vinyl playback of Led Zeppelin’s classic third album from 1970 which includes the familiar favourites of the stomping ‘Immigrant Song’ and the slow blues ‘Since I’ve Been Loving You.’ \nAs usual the event is FREE to attend but any voluntary contributions to aid the work of the Hospice will be gratefully received.

SUMMARY:Waverley Album Listening Event: January 2026
DESCRIPTION:The Waverley Album Club is a free monthly musical fundraiser for Dorothy House Hospice in Chippenham where we listen to vinyl records alongside occasional live music from local artists. \nWe have some brand new local live music for you from Chippenham’s own Robert McLeod aka Mac Lloyd at the first WALE of 2026 fundraiser for Dorothy House Hospice at the usual time of 8pm sharp on Wednesday January 21st. \nHe will be bringing his band ‘The Chosen Kin’ to play some tracks live for us from his debut album ‘Hold Fast’ first and then we will listen in full to the whole album on vinyl. It’s an interesting record in that the vinyl was manufactured by a new process technology different from the traditional stamper press method. \nThe music on the album is all self-composed and is an intriguing and very accessible blend of rootsy americana\, blues and soul. The album was launched at the end of November 2025 at a sold-out event at the Old Road Tavern in Chippenham. Copies of the album and other merchandise will be available to buy on the night. \nWe will finish the evening by remembering and talking about the work of David Robert Jones\, better known as David Bowie\, who left us ten years ago on January 10th 2016. We have chosen to pair the Mac Lloyd record with Bowie’s 1971 classic LP ‘Hunky Dory’ – with the help of Iain at Longwell Records in Keynsham (about to move to Clifton Arcade in Bristol) I found a really good quality 1980 re-issue copy of the vinyl for us to listen to. \nAs usual this is a FREE event but we welcome donations to the work of the Hospice.

DESCRIPTION:We run a free monthly musical fundraising event at The Waverley Bar in Chippenham in aid of Dorothy House Hospice. \nJoin us on Wednesday 17th December at The Waverley in Chippenham for an evening of Christmas fun and classic tunes fundraising for Dorothy House Hospice at The Waverley in Chippenham. \nWe are delighted to welcome local Grammy winning drummer\, Rob Brian\, who will bring his jazz trio accompanied by vocalist Karolina Griškutė. Alongside the live music\, we will also play Ella Fitzgerald’s classic 1960 vinyl album ‘Ella Wishes You A Swinging Christmas.’ \nAs usual there is no entrance charge\, but we do welcome any donations to the work of the Hospice\, which can be given as cash\, by card or online via a dedicated portal. \nWe will also have a special Xmas raffle with many excellent prizes -just £1 per ticket to enter and if you attend wearing a Christmas jumper or hat\, you will get one free ticket. DESCRIPTION:November’s fundraising event for Dorothy House Hospice at The Waverley in Chippenham is going to be wild. \nBristol-based musician Lunda is coming back to Chippenham bringing her full 5-piece band to play live for us at The Waverley. Last here in Chippenham 30/11/24 at an event alongside Cousin Norman’s\, she now returns to our town with a brand new EP for us to hear too. \nAlongside this Lunda selected the classic 1974 Betty Davis album ‘They Say I’m Different’ for us to listen to. \nThere is no charge to attend but any voluntary donations to aid the work of the Hospice would be very welcome! \nGet there early to grab a beer and a good view – the music will start promptly at 8pm

DESCRIPTION:How are you? Out of 10?\nThis meet up is a talking and listen club for men aged 18 and over.\nThis group meets the 2nd Monday of each month – upstairs at The Waverley. \nWhat’s it about?\nA Talk & Listen group is a peer to peer talking group run by volunteers we call Captains.\nCaptains are trained to facilitate groups in communities across the UK. \nThese groups are held in person in a safe and quiet space so men can talk and listen using the Talk Club sharing model which starts with ‘How are you? Out of 10?’. This simple question helps men to put a number on how they feel\, (1 being rock bottom and 10 being on top of the world) then trying to explain why. \nDepending on the number of men attending\, sessions last a maximum of two hours.

SUMMARY:Waverley Album Listening Event Fundraiser for Dorothy House Hospice - October 29th 2025
DESCRIPTION:October’s fundraiser for our local Hospice will be held at The Waverley bar in Chippenham on Wednesday 29th starting around 8pm. \nWe will be discussing and listening to vinyl copies of Elvis Costello’s 1977 debut LP ‘My Aim Is True’ and the 2024 release from Texan funk-soul band Silver Skylarks ‘The Number One Set And Sound’. \nAs usual get along around 7.30pm to get a good seat and a drink. \nThere is no charge for entry and all are welcome\, voluntary donations to Dorothy House Hospice are of course gratefully received. Come and stay for the whole evening or just pop in to listen whilst you sup your beer.

DESCRIPTION:September’s fundraising Album Listening Party for Dorothy House at The Waverley in Chippenham will be on Wednesday September 24th from 7.30pm\, with the music starting around 8pm. \nThis month we will have a special guest acoustic live performance by local musician Reuben Tyghe and will listen to a vinyl copy of his brand new album ‘Leylanding’ released at the end of August 2025\, This is Reuben’s second album from his solo project band\, Reuben’s Daughters\, which finds the UK singer/songwriter pushing the sound of his 2022 debut LP ‘Mami Wata’ into new and fascinating places. Reuben and his band are touring in support of the record\, including appearances at the 2025 Glastonbury Festival and Beautiful Days Festival\, so its a honour and a pleasure to host him at The Waverley for our event. \n“Reuben’s Daughters is a moonlight swim under a weeping willow slide guitar forest… Ghosts and clouds turn into melodies that crouch on the banks and whisper pictures into your brain.” says Particle Kid [Micah Nelson\, son of Willie Nelson]\nReuben suggested Radiohead’s ‘OK Computer’ as a classic vinyl album to pair his work with and so we will also listen to the remastered special edition ‘OK Computer OKNOTOK 1997-2017’ LP set \nAs usual the event is open to everyone and is free to attend\, but voluntary donations to aid the work of the local Hospice are very welcome

SUMMARY:Waverley Album Listening Event Birthday Party
DESCRIPTION:This month’s event marks both the one-year anniversary of the opening of The Waverley bar in Chippenham and a full year of our monthly vinyl listening event fundraisers for Dorothy House Hospice in the bar. \nThis month we have versatile multi-instrumentalist Samuel Fox from Bristol coming along to play live for us. Samuel is deeply ingrained in Bristol’s music scene and works in many other bands with a repertoire spanning jazz\, R&B\, hip-hop\, indie-folk\, and pop\, whilst excelling in improvised music. He is a man of many talents: for example\, he also plays bass guitar for Sam Brookes’ indie-rock band Supalung and he toured Canada recently with them; and at Glastonbury this year\, he also played bass for the Welsh rap artist. Lemfreck. \nAt our event he will be showcasing tracks he has written for his own indie-folk project band that he calls Mossfellow. He does not yet have a physical release on vinyl or CD for his EP ‘Quotidian’ that came out at the end of May this year\, but we will be able to listen to a high-resolution digital copy to contrast with his live acoustic performance\, accompanied by his band member\, Nuala Honan. Samuel suggested we pair his work with an LP by Nick Drake\, who he cites as one of the key influences for the Mossfellow project\, so we will listen to Nick’s debut album ‘Five Leaves Left’. We have a brand-new copy of the vinyl LP to play which has been kindly loaned to us by the owner of Resolution Records in Bath\, who is also a keen supporter of Dorothy House Hospice. \nThe music starts at 8pm and there is no charge for entry\, but voluntary donations to the Hospice are welcomed. We will have a raffle of prizes to encourage you to dig deep – donations can be made in cash or by card via a dedicated online portal.

DESCRIPTION:Monthly fundraiser event for Dorothy House Hospice. \nJanuary 2025\nWAVERLEY ALBUM LISTENING CLUB \nThe first 2025 WALC fund-raising event for Dorothy House Hospice\, will be held as usual at The Waverley\, Chippenham on Wednesday 22nd January\, starting at 7.30pm with the first stylus drop around 8pm. \nWe will start the year with a ‘prog rock’ flavour and will be listening to a record that was suggested and requested by a couple of people at the October 2024 WALC\, namely ‘A Trick Of The Tail’ from 1976 – the tricky first Genesis album released after Peter Gabriel left the band in 1974. \nAlongside this we will listen to ‘Mirror In Blue Light’ the excellent debut vinyl album by Bristol-based band Pocket Sun which was released in September 2024. Members of the band will be attending to talk about their music and will have merchandise available to buy.
